Yep, Jackson is all boy.
They trapped the Lowes kitten this morning at 7:00 so I picked him up and he is at the spay/neuter clinic already. Probably not what that kitten had planned for his day.

I have 6 cockatiels, a few are rescues, that keep me busy and might not be a good fit with a kitten, lol it would be a lot of work to teach the kitty that the birds are not prey or toys. But if I was going to get a kitty he is the one. I just know you will find him a good home and yes I need more pictures.

I hope it's a no kill shelter, kritter. Yes, it is the Humane Society. They are no-kill here. The rescue that I am fostering the kitten for is excellent with their adoption procedures plus she takes back any of the cats if the adopters turn out to be idiots. She picked up a cat from a vet yesterday that she had adopted out last fall. The people had the exterminator at their house and now the cat has neurological damage and the adopters say they can't afford the vet bills. Now the cat is at a specialist facility here under observation to see what can be done. Chemicals - pesticides are horrible for people and animals. All that Round Up, Weed b Gone, fertilizer, etc... that people put on their lawns are doing a lot of damage. The eco friendly products are starting to become more popular as people realize what they're sacrificing to have a perfect lawn.

Usually though, don't inside exterminators use pet friendly products, for routine exterminating? Or maybe it's just apartments that do that, since so many tenants have pets and the complex would be opening itself up to lawsuits if it used toxic stuff. BTW, how is that cat doing, kritter?

Not good, Val. Does not seem to be getting any better from what I heard last night.
I have been waiting for an update today but nothing so far.
I am going to email her again now to see if there is any news.

WHAT did the damn exterminator use? And why didn't the owners ask if it was safe for cats? I've had one here come back later with a different product when I told him there was a cat in the house.

I don't think we know what was used by the exterminator. I was there when the call came in to the rescue. The owners had dropped the cat off at the Petsmart where they adopted it and the adoption counselor had called it in.
I know that they ran all kinds of toxic screens and tests but don't know the results. she told me last night that she had a message from the vet while she was out yesterday and he said things were not looking good. They are trying so hard to save Dandie but they don't want him to suffer.

Makes me wonder if there was an exterminator or if the owner left stuff out that shouldn't have been out. You'd think she/he would at least call the exterminator and ask what was used and let the vet know.

Most exterminators advertise as being "pet-safe, child-safe" these days. It's a good selling point - if they don't care about their pets they might at least care about their kids. I think you'd have to go out of your way to find a toxic exterminator these days. They probably used some dodgy guy with old stock and now they're trying to lie low. Or else, as you suggest, Val, THEY poisoned the kitten somehow.

He is so freaking cute!!
Harley; I have a deaf cat. She was found along I-45 between Dallas and Houston. She s just like all our other cats except we cant call her. We dont usually worry about it now because she is older and rather, plump, so she spends most of her time sleeping on blankets.
We saw another deaf cat at an adoption event years ago and they were telling people that it needed to be by itself because it was deaf. I told those girls what I thought.

Yes, Dandie actually sat up yesterday for the first time and tried to stand. Baby steps in the right direction. She is going to spend a few more days at the vet clinic. The vet seems to think that things are looking up.

That's great news Kritter.
Hopefully there won't be any permanent side effects.
Now... where are the new pics of Jackson??

Will Dandie need a new home? Does Dandie like other cats?
Something about this particular one really bothers me. It's sooooo easy to tell the exterminator that you have a cat, please use cat safe products. And reputable ones will. I'm jaded enough to wonder if they had the place treated for termites and didn't get the cat out in time, or had stuff open that shouldn't have been but blamed it on the 'exterminator'.

Val, I don't think we will ever know because the adoptive idiots are acting like fools and playing the 'hard to contact" card. Dandie came in to this rescue as a young cat/kitten so he most likely has been exposed to other cats somewhere along the line. All her cats are in foster until they go into the Petsmarts for adoption. Just heard that Dandie was picked up at the vet clinic and has gone into foster with one of the adoption counselors. Dandie's adoption pic...

Yep. THEY did something wrong and are feeling guilty about it. How old is Dandie, and is Dandie a him or a her? Too cute in the picture!

He is adorable. If they had the house tented or heavily sprayed and didn't put his toys away they may have gotten poisoned and if he chewed on them it may be what made the poor thing sick.

Dandie was adopted last December and that was his photo then. He is probably a year old now more or less. I think Dandie is male because his foster name was Simba but don't know for sure.
The Lowes kitten, Dawn, is at the Lowes garden dept. lady's house now. She has 3 small dogs so we are seeing how it goes. She lives on a major busy street like I do so if it doesn't work out at her house, I told her that we would put Dawn in my cat pen for now.
If we took her back to Lowes, she said the managers would trap her and probably dump her somewhere. That is what they do with the possums and the coons.

Harley; I have a deaf cat. We saw another deaf cat at an adoption event years ago and they were telling people that it needed to be by itself because it was deaf. I told those girls what I thought. For years they advocated killing all deaf dogs because they said the deafness caused instability and aggression. Dals, cattle dogs and many staffies are deaf due to coloring. Tot is not deaf due to a genetic issue, hers was most probably a birth defect. A deaf animal if it's mentally stable is going to remain so. Deafness does not make an animal crazy or aggressive that is something else that is totally different. I STILL get the occasional idiot who tells me I should just destroy Tot because A- she's not only a pitty but a deaf one so therefore she is 10x more likely to turn on me and kill me. Um hello...she is 45lbs of adorable naughtiness. She's deaf NOT aggressive. WHAT?! If deafness caused all these issues then what about all the people running around who are deaf?! Just because an animal can't hear, see or has 3 legs does NOT make it expendable!!! It only means it has to find a special owner who will take the time to teach in a different way. Plus how can you not laugh your arse off when you give a deaf dog a command..ie hand signal and she turns around so she can't see you. OMG she KILLS me when she does that. Hearing dog owners say their dog has selective deafness. My deafy has selective sight when she wants to.

Dandi Update:
Dandi is a girl and is almost 8 months old. She was 3 1/2 months when she was adopted last December. She was from a litter of five.
Dandi is now eating on her own and is able to pull herself up and walk a few steps. Still working on her motor skills but has come a long long way.
