Riley, another new foster from yesterday. These idiots were giving me such a massive bullshit story about how they came to have him that my eyes were rolling so fast in my head that I finally just said "Whatever, drop him off". He is trying to walk on the feral side so I am giving him a cooling off period before I cehck out what that left eye issue is.

I wish I could say that they were all adopted but unfortunately, that is not the case. Riley is still in the bathroom but doing much better with the not hiding behind the toilet thing. He will probably be released from bathroom jail in the next day or so.
The feral, Chance, in the cat pen has reevaluated his options and now lets me pet him and even got in my lap yesterday.
Diego, the black one, hangs out either in the foster bedroom or with the Missy family. Dickins does pretty much the same but I noticed he has that third eyelid thing going on now so don't know what is up with him. Watery eyes but no other signs of illness. He is scheduled for his neuter on Wednesday so maybe the vet can check him out.
DeeDee and Daphne are doing a little better but not much. They usually don't run anymore when I get close now but if I pick one of them up, all arms and legs are frantically flailing around. I think Angie may have kept them at her house too long in a cage when she wasn't around that much to socialize when they were younger. They are the sisters of the two that have been at my house in foster so they should be doing better. The four of them came from a feral colony. They are at the 8 week old stage now so it is make or break time.
Thank goodness I didn't get cataract surgery done when I was scheduled in September. No way I could have handled recovery with all this insanity going on here.

I'd recovered from cataract surgery in a day. The biggest problem is depth perception between getting both eyes done. So when it slows down over there don't worry about being having it done and not being functional for days.

What Happens if You Bend Over After Cataract Surgery?
You should not bend over after cataract surgery for at least 2 weeks. Bending over will place pressure on the eye and this may cause unnecessary complications to your eye. The main complication will be a delay in the healing process.
“Positions that put your head below your waist, such as bending over, can also increase eye pressure and should be avoided initially after surgery.”The recovery period I am referring is that you can't bend down like to scoop litter boxes or fill food/water bowls for at least 14 days but longer if possible as it apparently puts pressure which could dislodge the lens or delay healing. I do a lot of bending over with daily cat tasks plus cleaning up cat messes. That is where my concern is rather than just basic recovery stuff. Now scheduled for January so hopefully there will be a break in this kitten insanity.

I swear, kritter, if you kept a journal (I'm sure many volumes by now) of your cat knowledge and stories, you'd have a bestseller.

Not sure what the DH (who was the Litter Box Master) did. I do know he had a much rougher recovery after detached retina surgery - lay on your stomach or side for 7 days. But yeah, I can see where those tasks would be a problem.

That precaution was emphasized more than once in my counseling session and was the reason I postponed the surgery. A husband of a friend of mine had to have a surgery repair because he was bending down to tie his shoes. No problem with regular activities even driving a day or too after the surgery but no bending down or lifting heavy objects. Apparently bending down also increase the eye pressure level.
Don't lift heavy objects for the first two weeks after surgery. Strenuous activity (like lifting something) can increase your eye pressure levels. Elevated intraocular pressure is one of the most frequent complications for patients that have cataract surgery.

The potential issues with eye pressure are no joke. My MIL had cataract surgery earlier this year and despite following the precautions she ended up with complications. They basically had to drain her eye because of the pressure. Eek!! She ended up okay but it could have been much worse. Good move to postpone until you can follow the directions to the letter.

Definitely EEK!
Between now and January the kittens should be gone and I can figure out the eating and litter box things so no bending is involved. The blind cats will need some extra time to get with the program but they catch on to new things pretty fast.
No eye draining going to here. Nope Nope Nope Not happening here.

Yikes! Definitely better to follow orders!
I was back to hiking in a couple of days and my friend scheduled her cataract surgeries in between snowboard races - the DH was back to riding two days later. We were pretty careful to do not do anything we were told not to do but didn't get any particular guidance (maybe not to do weightlifting, but I wasn't at that time so never asked). I wouldn't have snowboarded for the world, though - my depth perception was shot for the two weeks between surgeries - I would have ended up with my head stuck in a snowbank.

Yep, that was the instruction that got my attention as a dealbreaker. I want this done is one visit and not have to go back for a repair.
It is elective so no rush. I can see OK with my glasses but wouldn't be able to pass a driver's license renewal test which I will have to do in 1/24. Just getting an early stat on getting it done.

I know, I know I am such a pic slacker. I need to get some for their Petfinder pages plus I think I have figured out how to put some videos on U-tube that I can also post on Petfinder. Until then meet Daphne who is one of the feral kits that is having a hard time abandoning the wild side of her tortie personality.

I wouldn't have passed my driver's test, either. As it was, my night vision got really poor and I tried not to drive at night - sometimes I couldn't see anything. I wasn't crazy about driving during the day, either, and stuck to getting around by bike. After I had the cataract surgery my night vision was back to being really sharp, but I was also back to my eyes being very light sensitive - if the sun is too strong I can't see at all - I'm fortunate where I live we don't have that happen too much, but it does enough. I have about 47 pairs of sunglasses lol.

Just talked to Riley's future adopter. He gets neutered on Wednesday and then goes to his new home most likely on Thursday.

He's soooooo cute! Is he the only holiday one this year?
Can you believe it's been 7 years since Trixie was dropped off at your front door?
