Yesterday the rescue was at Animal Control when two 7 year old cats were surrendered by the owners. These idiots from Nebraska had moved here several months ago and were suffering from allergies. NOTE: With all the rain and humidity we have had here for the last 4 months, just about everybody here has allergies. Now, they have had these two cats since the cats were 8 weeks old and now since they moved here, they have allergies and the cats must go. They had both cats declawed on all 4 paws when they were 8 weeks old. One of the cats is white and one is black. This city is very involved in going no-kill which is great except for some of the methods they are using. Any stray cats picked up by AC no matter how young are spayed/neutered and then TNRed back to the area they were picked up in. There are kittens as young as 5 weeks being spayed/neutered and then released back on the streets. If they are not released back on the streets where they came from, they are released at lumber yards, junk yards, etc. where there is a mouse/rat population. All this idiocy is done in the name of no-kill numbers although I have to wonder how many are surviving on their own. These two seven year old cats who are declawed on all paws and have lived inside a house their whole life were slated to be released to one of those locations. The rescue pulled the white cat but the black one was still being processed and having his ear tipped when she left. When she told me about them last night, I told her we had to get that black cat before he was released. She put him "on hold" this morning and I went over and got him as all her cages are jammed with kittens waiting to go in for adoption. Her sister will probably join her here in foster unless the rescue can get her adopted through her website or FB in the next couple of days The phone number for their previous owners is on the paperwork that I have for Tango and it is all I can do not to call them up and tell them what I think. So, here is Tango...

Sadly everyday at some point the thought "WTF is wrong with people" goes through my head and sometime even comes out of my mouth at inappropriate times. This would be one of those.

The owners are idiots and I just want to smack the hell out of them. The same with the city and that 'plan', it's just a way to manipulate the stats and make them look good. But oh my that Tango is adorable. I love black cats Bless you Kritter

Awww what a cutie pie. Why oh why are people so dumb?
Poor Sabrina made me chuckle though. She is too funny with her face. You can barely see her face in the picture but can still tell she is pizzed.

Sabrina needs to pull up her fluffy big girl panties and get with the program.
She looks like she ate a bad mouse.

Stupid people, I can't believe anyone would do that to animals they've declawed and had since kittens. I can't image and yes, you need to have a heart to heart with Sabrina, she needs to get over herself.

Sabrina has been pissy since Callie arrived a couple of days ago.
She definitely would prefer to be an only cat and has no problem letting me know.
I have seen very few cats that are declawed on all 4 paws. I really have an issue with a vet that would do that. Many vets here will no longer declaw at all.
I don't see how anybody that has had pets for 7 years can drop them off at a kill shelter and drive away. I think I am going to have to google those nitwits.

I think it is different in each state.
It is not against the law here but it is hard to find a vet here that will do it.
These two were done 7 years ago when they were babies and it wasn't as frowned upon as it is now.
It is against the law in most countries in Europe, I believe.

I hate that their claws were removed. If you own a cat, some of your furniture is going to get nailed. It's a package deal. What on earth was that shelter thinking on releasing outside? That cat wouldn't last without claws. Beautiful cat! Tango

Idiot owners aside (I can't for one minute comprehend them and don't want to), I can't believe the shelter was considering releasing a surrendered pet (a declawed one at that) to the streets. Beyond cruel.
I'm a bitch so I'd probably call the owners, pretend I was the shelter, and was just letting them know that their pets had been PTS that day as is our duty to inform them under the Texas state freedom of information/right to know acts. They're definitely too dumb to know that isn't a thing.
She's a gorgeous cat and you're a saint for all you do for these babies. Poor Sabrina. Maybe she should end up in Val's suitcase while you're in Vegas together.

Dantes, the only thing that shelter is thinking about is their "no-kill" numbers. It has gotten totally ridiculous.
The rescue snatched several kittens off the TNR cart the other day that were waiting for spay/neuter and ear tip. They only weighed a little over a pound and could never have survived on their own.
It just makes me sick to think about it. I would rather see them humanly euthanized rather than become coyote food.

Fashion, I have been there when owned animals are surrendered and the counselors tell them that the pets will be euthanized if they are owner surrender in hopes that will change their minds. In fact, it even states it on the paperwork they they signed and I have a copy.
But, if the shelter euthanizes them, it will count against their no-kill numbers so they would rather notch their ears and turn them loose.
These idiots just didn't care.
Sabrina is such a diva. At least her owner made an effort to rehome his pets rather than surrender them to die.
Tango is huge and is one of those cats with a big head and fat face. She will be fine.

I am losing patience with Sabrina. She's just going to have to get over herself!
I can't imagine a cat with no claws. It must be awful when they're kittens and want to climb everything, but can't.
After Dandie's owners I didn't think I could be surprised at idiocy anymore, but these de-clawers take the cake. You got allergies? Take a pill, people, and don't just willy-nilly dispose of animals you've had mutilated for your own convenience. Jeez!

I'm not opposed to another cat at some point, but Hootie has been an only cat the entire time I've had him. Any new member to the house needs to be friendly and at least meet Hoots half-way. In a couple of weeks, Hoots would be over it. But a diva won't work. Gotta have cooperation and team work here or no deal. Tango is gorgeous. Who has his white buddy?

Val, the white sister is at the rescue's facility. She is an Angora from what I hear from the rescue but I doubt she is a true Angora. Probably just has longer fluffy hair. LOL Petti, I am also losing patience with Sabrina but she doesn't seem to care. She was all lovey dovey last night when I went in the foster bedroom to read with them. She kept giving Tango the evil eye but didn't confront her on the cat tree. titus, I can definitely make that happen for you. I am pretty sure that there are direct flights from here to Philadelphia so it is definitely doable. Bliss, Tango will be here for awhile. Right now adult adoptions are taking a back seat to kittens. I think the plan is to put Tango and the white sister on the rescue website, FB, and Petfinder instead of putting them in the Petsmart adoption centers. These girls need to have some time to adjust to what has happened to them. I hope those Nebraska idiots end up with terminal Texas allergies.

You know, I can make that happen too. I have done it twice before. Once to St Louis and once to Pensacola. I sat down on the couch in the foster bedroom and was reading a little bit before I went outside. Tango came off the cat tree which is right by the couch and laid on the arm of the couch next to me. We had a little "get acquainted" petting session. The Diva was not amused. Tango will be fine.

We could turn Diva into a female Grumpy Cat and we will all be rich.
She has the same look to her mouth that Grumpy has.

I'd adopt Kritter and her kitties in a heartbeat but I don't know how she'd adjust to Philadelphia weather.
