Good morning, everyone! We're getting a break from snow (rain instead) and even seeing sun every few days, so enjoying that while it lasts. Have my list of things to get and looking forward to being out and about. Hope everyone has a safe, healthy week!

The sun is out. Hoping the yard dries out before more rain Friday. Hubby has a full work week so things are back to normal. Hoping this “no snow” continues.
Going to start working on taxes and changing my paperwork drawer over for the new year. Just have to get motivated.

My taxes are ready to turn in. I have to have them done before my Medicaid review on Feb 6.
The place that I have been using decided to charge at least $400 to prepare them this year!!! Last year they were $285, which was bad enough.
So I just found another place that will do them for about $100.

After less than 90 minutes TOTAL sunshine since Jan 1, the sun is finally out! The yard is still a mud pie mess but at lease the sun is out!! Forgot what a lovely shade of blue the sky is!! lol

Sunny and high 60s on tap for here today.
I was supposed to be in an all day Federal tax update webinar today and tomorrow, via Zoom. The zoom part was a total disaster this morning. I don't hold out much hope for this afternoon either. I signed up for the same topics at another training site that will be much better. I just hate that the office paid for this joke of a remote session.
Updating my task calendar and workflow software for the office. We've had it for several years but never really used it. Now we are. Fun times. I'm still keeping my own calendar though. I like the report layout better.

There must have been a solar flare or something this morning LOL. EVERYONE at the office is having technical issues. Considering we're all remote and working from assorted places (and not actually IN the office), that's saying something.

Apparently a bad stomach virus going around. Just a warning. It's norovirus, and it's on the rise. You usually hear about outbreaks of it on cruise ships, and over the last two months there have been frequent outbreaks worldwide traced to contaminated oysters. But it can be spread like any other virus, in any setting. www.self.com/story/what-is-norovirus-stomach-fluIt's also incredibly miserable and something you do NOT want to catch. I've had it once. It was the sickest I've ever been, even worse than when I was hospitalized for pneumonia. I NEVER want to have it again. Sunny and 76 on tap here for today. Pollen counts are up too. Bleah. But at least my apartment is nice and bright. The sunshine reflects off the white garage doors on the building facing me

I am going to try to work today. So far the Gatorade Zero is staying down. My face is a mess but I think the makeup covers up all the broken blood vessels except those in my eyes. Will see how it goes. I also had 2 pieces of toast around 10 AM.

Hope you feel better soon!

Speaking of norovirus, one good thing to know is most mainstream hand sanitizers are not effective at killing this particular virus. So if you're dining out for example, best to wash your paws with soap and water, versus relying on sanitizer.

(((Labby))) That sound really bad! I'm glad sales are doing OK (knock on wood) because I just got my Christmas present to myself in gear - I collect old paper and have two 14th century breviary pages and one large 13th century vellum sheet of music. I've been wanting to have them professionally framed for years. Today I arranged for the two little breviary pages. The framer who can handle 700-year-old paper is quite close to my house - I thought I'd have to drive down to Seattle. He's a real pro and assisted me in choosing the proper conservator plexiglass and frame style for two-sided display (so we can see either side of the pages). Ugh - $330 for the job (11" x 11") but it's going to be fabulous when it's done. Their paper conservator is going to look at my vellum scroll first - he really suggested that she do this and says it won't cost anything to have her examine it and give me her opinion on how best to preserve or restore it, before framing, so she'll call me in about a week. He was this very composed individual but got rather excited at this paper. As soon as I unrolled that ancient vellum and he brought out four soft, weighted pads and carefully lay them to hold down the vellum, I knew I'd come to the right place. For a paper nerd like me, this is a big deal lol. ETA: I left the vellum with him - when I left the leather pads were still on it and he said he wanted to let it 'relax' - vellum is stiff and tends to scroll itself. I thought that was a great idea and appreciated his making room for it.

We had fog this morning. Party cloudy and 78 forecast for today. Then a cold front moves in tonight and we get 3 days of more seasonable temps (low 60s). Almost 80 degrees on January 11 has me really worried about how hot it might get this summer Good thing the new apartment has a north exposure and not a west one! My state tax webinar this morning has a good remote connection and is even somewhat interesting (Monday/Tuesday webinar was snoozefest). We had a bit of a shakeup with our outside bookkeepers that resulted in a change in client assignments. I got my new client list late yesterday and it's much better than the ones I've been working on for the past several years. No more of the crap clients. Yay! Plus I'm assigned to a non-profit account that is going to be HUGE. That should be interesting. I have about 25 hours of remote training I need to take this month for that client. Two of us are taking the training as we're hoping to leverage this client into getting more non-profit clients. I'm down to the last few packed boxes from the move. You know, stuff you're pretty sure you'll need but isn't critical to unpack immediately, and if you did toss it, you'd suddenly need it? I may combine it all into as few boxes as possible, label the boxes and stash them in the closet. The cats are really enjoying the extra space. Twila gets up some serious speed when she does her turbo laps, and when she and Simon chase each other. Even Trixie is back to playing some - she seems to like the plastic balls with bells in them, and the catnip banana.

Hi, hope everyone is well, sure hope you are feeling better Labby, being sick sucks. DH has what they call "cedar fever" here, bad allergies to the ashe juniper pollen. He's had a lot of congestion, cough, fatigue, and even loss of taste and smell due to the congestion. He feels worse than he did when he had Covid, but today it seems to be easing up a bit. And unfortunately we are going to have an ashe juniper taken down tomorrow or Friday. I hate to lose a tree but it's eaten up with ball moss and the arborist guy said it's pretty much at the end of it's lifecycle anyway I hope it doesn't make him feel worse, plus it's expensive which makes me feel worse lol.
Did I tell you guys that my step sister (lives in Virginia) made pillows for my sister and myself, out of Dad's ties? I got them right before Christmas, they are really lovely! She did a great job. Dad was a (furniture) salesman and always wore a suit and tie. My sister wanted to wait until after Christmas to get hers because she was feeling emotional at the holiday, and then she got a bad cold so I didn't see her to give it to her until Monday. We were both really touched and got our thank you cards out today. It's nice to have a bit of Dad in the living room.
Mom is doing well (knock on wood) no chest pains since Christmas. Her boyfriend turned 80 and apparently his family gave him a bit of a party which she attended and kept the balloons lol.
It's very warm here today, 80 is the high, but a cool front tonight. Tomorrow or Friday I am going to make some yeast sourdough bread. I've made plain sourdough (loaf) and it was pretty stout! Going to see how the yeast/sourdough combo is, plus it's way less proofing time. Fingers crossed.

Um, pickles anyone?
I finally saw my endocrinologist and he did confirm my hypoglycemia. And my almost-Keto diet is the way to treat it.
And my self-dx'd postprandial hypotension was also right. And he suggested that I eat pickles! I had been eating my snack bag of chips daily, until lately since I am trying to avoid carbs. It's a convoluted thing about when I eat, my blood rushes to my stomach to digest the food, thus taking it away from my brain and other parts of my body. So the salt from the pickles will help that.
I also asked him about something that I tried yesterday. Since my BP goes as low as 70/55 after my lunch, I decided to vacuum. I was thinking that the blood would then go to other parts of my body and he agreed. Since I don't need to vacuum every day, I am going to try to walk a bit on my treadmill after the meals that affect me.
He also instructed me to drink Gatorade Zero for the electrolytes (which I have been doing), and to eat smaller meals (also doing that).
So apparently the fact that my BP can go that low, and then as high as 179/115 3 hours later, is nothing to worry about.

Thanks Dawn,
Apparently, pickles will help it? I have been freaking out about it for 3 months, and constantly taking my BP.
All of my tests came back okay, and my cardiologist said that my heart was okay since I passed the stress test.

I am all better except for my face. Blew out a bunch of blood vessels in my eyes and around my eyes. Luckily makeup covers it up.
We had our work holiday dinner tonight. Got takeout from a bar/restaurant.
Saturday we have a home check for a local rescue. Will see how it goes.
And finally, almost 2 years ago, I pulled up on a really bad fatal accident on my way home. I had dashcam. Hubby said the DA’s office called for me. Must be going to court. Not sure how the accident happened, who they charged or anything else. They may have charged the car and truck in front of me for not stopping. Will find out more tomorrow. Not exactly sure I want to re-live that vision. Never saw any follow up except the news story in the morning. I had to call the tv station and tell them to pull the video because I knew what was in the video and the amity would not want to see it.

Denise - I was getting sleepy after breakfast - I started eating Lean Cuisine for breakfast instead of my usual fruit/yoghurt/one waffle combo and it cleared up. If I eat the fruit/yoghurt/waffle later on it's fine. Weird.
Labby - years ago I was riding home from work (I worked second shift) and came across an accident scene. There was an aid car, an SPD prowler and several people standing around. There was a downed motorcycle and a shape covered laying next to it, and blood seeping from it across the street (small city street). I stopped immediately. One of the police officers told me to go ahead - I looked at him a little worriedly. I'm pretty hardened when it comes to humans but it seemed terribly disrespectful to just ride through this individual's blood. They said that it was OK, just go through. I insisted on getting off my bike, stepping over the blood, then remounting and going on my way. I'll never forget that dark night and that blood, even though it must have been almost 40 years ago.

I tried eating my dinner at lunch-time and I still got tired. I will check out the Lean Cuisine...thanks.
Now I have to eat more often than every 3 hours! And I have to be careful what I eat. This is crazy.
Ugh to the accident.

I spoke to the ADA this morning. I cannot imagine being this guy’s family member. She said the defense atty won’t plead out. I believe the photos will be prejudicial due to their horror. I think the defense is counting on photos being excluded. She warned the victim’s family they would most be better off leaving the room for that part of the trial. It is a tricky case but I sure hope it settles.

If I eat the fruit/yoghurt/waffle later on it's fine. Weird. Not all that weird, Chap. I'm the opposite though. If I'm going to have a carb heavy meal (which your waffle/yogurt combo is), I have to eat it in the morning. Any later and I have issues. Eat it at night and I can't sleep. Whatever. I just roll with it Partly cloudy and 67 for today, 62 for tomorrow and Saturday. That's more in line with our norms. Yay! Just got off a zoom call with our new non-profit client. Really nice people to work with and I can tell it's going to be a complicated set of books, but that's OK. Makes things more interesting! I'm surfing the web for another half hour and then I have another webinar and another new client call after that (this one seems like a nice one too). In the past, not all of our clients were good or nice. TBH, this firm had the worst client base I've ever dealt with in the 20+ years I've been doing this. Fortunately, most of the PITAs went to the payroll guy who was trying to poach our clients (good riddance to those clients, LOL!), they went out of business, or the sr partner fired them. It took about two years, but we're now getting a better quality of client and it's nice. I also finally figured out why Chrome kept logging me out of websites, and got the cookie issue fixed so now I don't have to log in every time, or get an authorization code with each log in. Whew.

After many years of driving a tow truck, I've seen first hand the aftermath of drunk drivers. The vehicles were so mangled that I can't imagine what the people were like.
I actually saw a guy on a bicycle get hit by a car and the car just drove away. The biker landed in the middle of the road and I pulled my truck up in front of him so he wouldn't get hit by anyone else. He broke his leg but was otherwise ok. I was too shocked to get a plate number of the car who hit him. His lawyer called me a few months later, but I never had to go to court for that.
