Apartment office sent an email out about an hour ago that the water sprinkler pipes were freezing up so they shut the system off. They advised everyone to have their fire extinguisher handy and call 911 in case of fire
Like, duh.

Chap you have to get well first.
We're going to run our own 5k, slowly lol. He's getting over something he picked up in Europe so we won't set any speed records, but it's only 5k and we're both absolutely stir crazy from being cooped up in all of this ice. It'll be in the upper 40s with drizzle, perfect running weather, and I think I'll probably have a large poodle to run with me (he'll have the scrappy Westie who thinks every other dog, save for the poodle, is the Enemy of Mankind and must be vanquished. That little Westie side-tackled me once running through my legs when were out running, trying to get at someone's dog). So it'll be a nice, pretty quick outing. There's no way I would try running at any race pace or anything longer than very short like that, but I need to work this stuff out of my system.
We have our family potluck in the early evening, a smaller crowd with about 20-22 this time (there are a lot of us) and I'll be bringing my much-asked-for salad (my dad used to make the salads for all family gatherings, too, so it must be genetic). We were asked to take Covid tests before coming as there is one fragile elderly person and a baby, just to be sure, and that stuff is getting everywhere again, though I think the flu is a worse scourge right now. We're having it at cousins' house who live in a part of town that has been cut off for several years because the bridge to get there broke (yet again) and so it was a long drive south of the Sound to reach her - the bridge is open at last so that in itself is a celebration we can more easily do things together again.

Merry Christmas!🎁🎄
Going to start warming up today!
Started my car the last 3 days just to make sure it starts.
Back to work 3-11. Hope we have no burst pipes at work. We did lose some trees there.

Merry Christmas to all!
How nice it is to not have to make the entire dinner! I am taking my deviled eggs and pretzel salad to my daughter's house today, since they were both hits.
It's 12 degrees today!!! Windchill is only -5. Apparently, it will actually go up into the 50's later this week!!

The kitties and I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and hope you all have a wonderful day! The kitties got lots and lots and lots of toys this morning. From me and their two aunties. I was tossing toys right and left. Twila: "Oooh a new toy! Wait, another new toy! OMG is that a new toy? Where are all these toys coming from? OMG it's toy heaven! I must inspect each one!!! So many toys, so little time!"Simon: "Ok, Twila can have that one. Hmnn, that feather thingie looks interesting, I'll check it out later. Oh look, a fish - he looks really cool. He's mine. Oh, and the penguin too. I have dibs on him."Trixie: "Toys - meh. The kids can have them for now. I'll check them out later after the little ones go to sleep. I do have to maintain my dignity and standing you know. Wait, is that another CATNIP BANANA? STEP ASIDE KIDS IT'S MINE!"The cats went nuts playing with the toys and running around like little banshees. Even Trixie got in on the play. At one point Twila jumped up on the kitchen counter, then the top of the fridge, and finally ended up on the top of the kitchen cabinets. Unfortunately she got down before I could grab my phone. My yelling at her to get down probably had something to do with it I have a cup of Taste of San Antonio coffee brewing (cinnamon, chocolate and vanilla flavored coffee - smooth blend and not overpowering at all). When it's ready the cats and I are sitting down and watching Father Brown. The next episode up just happens to be the season 6 opener...and a Christmas show They even brought Sid back for this episode. That's the one thing I hate about the British TV shows. They'll let actors leave a show if something else comes up for the actor, so often a character with just disappear with no notice and just a blurb in the next show explaining where he/she is. Sometimes the character comes back in later seasons, or they'll do a guest shot, or never return at all. Good for the actor, but it really sucks for the viewer. Afterwards I'm unpacking the rest of the kitchen so I can cook this week. Sunny and 50 on tap for here today. Cool enough I can wear my favorite red sweater but not so cold that I'll mind taking all the trash and boxes out to the dumpster later today. Oh, and getting outside to reassemble the Christmas decorations on the patio.

It was at least from 12 years ago when I was working at the shelter. The original card still sits on my TV cabinet all year round and I smile every time that I look at it and remember that photo shoot.

Hope everyone has a great Holiday today! This is one of my new faves (it's not actually new, but I recently discovered it), skip it if you're easily offended, it's hilarious but not very PC. Hope everyone's Christmas is NOT like this video.
BTW, I got a box of the "seeds" from eBay, it's actually a really cute gift, but I don't bother with live plants. I'll have to check out the thread dis'ing it. I know the person who does Mentor's gifts was really excited about this year's gift. I'm not sure if this came as my Mentor gift or from winning a Grant though. I thought since it came from Adam Ireland it was for Grant Winners, since he met us on one of our group calls. I'm bummed to hear it's a miss b/c she was so excited about it.

Did anyone see king Charles' first Christmas message? It was quite good. You can see it on demand on britbox.

If you want to have a merry day do not look at your electric bill. PECO raised my budget plan yet again. Up to $275. Was $215 but I was giving them $225. I think I am going to downsize the water heater sooner than I planned. I think it was $195 at the beginning of 2022.

If you want to save on hot water, look into on demand systems. Or put your existing water heater on a timer. It doesn't have to run all day, especially if everyone is out working. I used to turn the water heater off during the day at my apt in Phoenix. I'd turn it on first thing in the morning, for a shower and dishes. If I wanted a bath in the evening, I'd turn it on for a cycle and then back off. It made a big difference in my power bill. You can do the same thing by just installing a timer.

It's tough now that they have a monarch that looks almost like the twin of my unlamented ex-husband.
My running friend and I had our 5k with dogs - we were kind of slow - Birdie, the magnificent poodle I was walking - kept wanting to up the speed and she was really strong. I let her tow me along for a while, but little Dickens the Westie couldn't keep up with his short little legs, so we settled down again. We were extremely relaxed but it still kind of wore me out and I had to take a nap afterwards. This flu is just a bear!
We had a great Christmas with the usual noisy chat and lots o' eating and drinking. I have a very peppy family and with my generation all retiring or going into semi-retirement, the peppiness seems to be going into higher gear since people have more time. I now have invitations to go snowshoeing, hiking, biking, and two of my cousins want to go on a 90 mile hike across England as a 'retirement thing' - I did the hike some years back and they were asking a lot of questions which brought back great memories. Now I want to go with them and do the hike again!
Just going up near the Canadian border this week to do a more modest hike and pub crawl.
