VoA was pretty much a bust, though I pretty much did a mosey up and down most aisles waiting for something to catch my eye. Managed to find a couple things for DH he'll get next month on his birthday.
*sigh* just got update on my book and it left Indianapolis, IN and back to facility in IL. That's 6 facilities in 3 days to deliver a book that originated 2 hours from me. (insert eyeroll here).
It doesn't look like we're getting a lot of snow. I'd rather forecast is more than actual instead of saying no big deal and waking up to a foot of snow.

I ended up decorating my patio after all But I don't think it's going to win any prizes. I need more lighted flamingos. Oh well, at least I get to enjoy the lights for a couple of weeks! The command hooks fell off the window so no window lights.

We are expecting a lot of rain and wind. It may change over to some snow Friday. I just hope the roads dry before it freezes. Luckily I am working inside tomorrow.
Got our garlic crusted roast today. Probably having it Friday or Saturday. I am working Sunday. This will be my last “Christmas Eve and NYE off until I retire due to the way the calendar falls. I won’t have off on Christmas and New Years either.
Work is a pain this time of year so if I am not round it is because I am beat. Walked and climbed steps from 3-7:30 this evening. Non-stop. Tomorrow is the last official workday for the college until the third. We make $$$$$ this next week and a half. Most of us do not take off unless they force us.

Goodbye sun until maybe Tuesday. Rain today, freezing tonight and temps plummet to single digits and teens. It's not the snow I'm worried about, it's the 60mph wind gusts and windchill up to -30 and hoping power stays on. The wind will also cause snow to blow all over making it harder for maintenance to clear drives and walkways. Hope my flannel lined Carhartts still fit.

Our weather is headed downhill, too, but not as bad as yours. Rain but no snow. It is supposed to rain for two days and then turn cold for Christmas Eve and Christmas.
Not that we are going anywhere as we are still on COVID restriction until Wednesday.

LOL of the day- I made pot roast the other night. DH put some in a container to take to work for lunch. When it was time to eat, he went to the fridge, took out container that had pot roast in it, but the container looked different and he figured he just grabbed a different one from the cabinet. Then he noticed the carrots were cut up and mine were whole baby carrots, so walked around to find one of the other managers eating his from the container. They wound up eating each others' lunch. He'd better say mine was better if he ever wants me to make it again.

Funny Chap!
My daughter brought over 3 trash bags of her discarded clothing, mostly mart brands. The bags are so heavy that I can't lift them. And they reek of detergent. Ugh....but inventory!
Raining all day and then it will freeze tonight.

We had really bad black ice this morning. Roads were shut down. Luckily it warmed up and cleared out before I had to leave for work. I did my online bill payments today in case the power and/or Internet goes out tomorrow.
Not sure if we are doing the prime rib tomorrow or Saturday. I say tomorrow so we can have leftovers Saturday. I work Sunday.
Work is wearing me out. I was stressed about the weather today and didn't get much sleep. Glad I am off tomorrow. The climbing is tiring.

I won third place again in the holiday patio decorating contest. Woo hoo! I'm really surprised though. I didn't think I did all that good of a job, since I did it in a hurry and couldn't hang some of the lights the way I wanted to. Either the office really likes flamingos, or there wasn't much competition. I really do need to look at the units that won 1st and 2nd this year, to see what I need to do to move up in the win next year since I already have an idea in mind I won a $50 HEB gift certificate. Since I also have mail at the office, I guess I'll go brave the wind and get my goodies. Speaking of wind, it's really picked up here. I had to move the loose patio decorations to the ground up next to the inside wall so they wouldn't blow off the patio. I'm debating if I want to take the flamingo Christmas flag down or not, it's on the patio railing. I set the light timer to off, no sense running it tonight when stuff is behind the patio table on the ground

Val - we need photos! We're iced in here, too, with temperatures dropping down to 10 degrees last night. Everything here is on an incline or decline and getting out of our road would be tough, so we walked out to the store - it was ice basically the entire way there and back unless we wanted to walk in the middle of the main road, over hill and dale. The DH had crampons strapped to his boots but I don't have any so was slipping and tiptoeing a lot of the way - I actually fell down on some black ice ON TOP of a dirt path . No wind, which was good. So now I have a bruised hip and got ice all over my backside so it felt like I was carrying a cooler around back there the entire time. Still, it was fairly peaceful, and we were able to enjoy the yard decorations on our way over, and since dark falls so early we were able to enjoy Christmas lights on the way back. Longest dang 3 1/2 - 4 miles ever lol.

Tough job to have tonight.

I am terrified of ice, especially falling. Thanks for reminding me to get out my Yaktrax. I also keep a pair in the Cube so need to make sure they're at the ready, too.
Sorry you fell, Chap. You couldn't pay me enough to walk across the parking lot on black ice let alone 3 1/2 to 4 miles. I'd be freaking out so much I'd probably sound like a slow moving emergency vehicle.
Glad DH has tomorrow off.

He put the package right up against the door so when I opened the door, it kinda fell right in.
This is just stupid cold and does not belong in south Texas. I don't care if it is the Christmas season or not.

Chap-sorry that you fell and good thing that you didn't break anything.
Heck, if my informed delivery doesn't show anything great, I won't even be going down to my mailbox for the next 2 days. 50 mph winds and -30 windchill are predicted now.

Tonight's low is forecast to be 17 but it wouldn't surprise me if it went lower, since it's only 8:50 pm and we're already down to 18. I don't mind the cold, I can always layer. But the 20 mph wind sucks. Fortunately for us there is no rain forecast during this cold spell. My final "guaranteed by Christmas" purchase just informed me it won't be here until Dec 30. LOL, I'd already figured that out when I got notice the package was tendered to UPS this afternoon. In NJ. I'm actually pleasantly surprised that the other items with a before Christmas delivery date made it to me early, so I can't really complain about this one.

Definitely those yaktrax and crampons are a great idea - I probably should get a pair for next time. Getting up again was funny - I rolled to my knees and made to do the usual leap up to stand and felt one of my feet start to slide again. It was like being slappy-drunk, but I stayed up. After that I was creeping along but after a while I got used to it. We just don't have to deal with that much here.
My cousin lived for some time near Vladivostok in Russia, and said the Russian women are able to run for the bus over the ice in HEELS - actually RUN! She said she'd be creeping along in her snowboots and falling down.
We get freezing rain now - after it quits snowing all night. I just pray our power stays on.

I woke up at 5:30 to a loud ice storm. Now it is snowing over the icy roads. Tons of trees are down everywhere.
My psych nurse daughter has patients all over today, so I get to worry about her.
It's a balmy 6 degrees here with 20 windchill. And it will go lower very soon.
I took eBay off vacation and made 2 sales. But amazingly, they indicated that I don't have to ship until Tuesday.
I want summer!

Woke up to -9 degrees with a wind chill of -37 degrees. Took the dogs out and for 2.3 seconds they thought the snow was AWESOME then their feet froze! Took a few tries to get them to do their business, had to bring them in a few times to warm their feet. It's a little chilly in the house. When it gets this cold our hot water heat system struggles a bit. I'll have to bake something...that heats up the kitchen at least.
My koi pond went from liquid water to covered with 1" of ice overnight. (Note to self: be sure to leave enough of the pond heater cord OUT of the water so it doesn't freeze in the ice! Oops!)

Thanks, labbypaws, for reminding me a have a pair of boots similar to those.
9am, wind is blowing at 45mph, snow is flying around erratically and windchill is -24. Thankful DH is home and power is on. I just hope power stays on. I feel bad for maintenance guys who are out and about. Our walkway, which was freshly shoveled and salted around 8:30am already has part of it covered in snow.

Cold but sunny here. But nothing like what a lot of you are experiencing. It's 19 right now warming up to 32 later. Winds are supposed to die down tomorrow. Not too bad. We'll be in the 70s for New Years It's really going to confuse the trees. I feel sorry for the apartment staff. They're closing the office at 3:00 today and return on Tuesday 1/3. Nice break for them, but someone will have to be on call. Or several someones. With the big freeze last year, not too many apartments had frozen pipes because of the high occupancy and the way the apartments are designed (much of the plumbing is on inside walls). However, the sprinkler system pipes in the building did freeze. I hope that doesn't happen this time.

All my packages to my daughter and 3 families of great niece/nephews arrived on time or even earlier. Thank you USPS and UPS! My holiday work is done. When I went out to dinner last night it was forecasted to be torrential rain but there was barely a drop all evening. Stormy rainy today. Going down to 11 degrees tonight but today is in the mid 30's. No complaints. I keep the heater off. Yes, I'm weird. But quite comfortable. Sorry you fell, chap. That is a fear of mine as I'm clumsy and do fall on ice. With the blood thinners on board that could be disastrous. I'm glad you didn't break anything. ((((labby)))) You need a new job for the new year. Hope something comes through and that a lot opens up then.

I keep the heater off. Yes, I'm weird. But quite comfortable. I can relate. I only have the heater on low during the day (69) if it's really cold outside (like today). Mainly I just use space heaters in the living room and the office. Why heat the whole place if I'm only in one room at a time? Much cheaper and doesn't dry out the air. But at night? I put the thermostat down to 65 and yes, that does mean the a/c is running at night during the winter I was watching TV last night, heater set to something like 62 I think (per the office request so pipes won't freeze), it was 16 degrees outside, I'm in a north facing apartment with mostly windows on the north side, we had a north wind at 27 mph with gusts, and I was grumbling to Shirley that it was still 67 inside. Fortunately for me it did finally get cold enough inside for me for sleeping. Another good reason why I'm glad I'm single

I'll take a pic tomorrow night. I have to wait for the winds to die down so I can put everything back in place. Actually, it's not that the winds are still strong enough to topple everything over like yesterday, it's that I'm just to much of a wimp to go out in today's wind chill and put everything back. It appears there are some residents who were unhappy with the contest results. I haven't looked at the first and second place winners, I thought I'd do that tomorrow night. But the office told me that the Grinch patio called wanting to know why they didn't at least place. It appears that some people here do not respect the creativity of having Christmas flamingos **sniff** Anyone can buy a Grinch blow up but it takes real patience and skill to find flamingos willing to dress up for Christmas (they're fussy like cats when it comes to dressing up) AND willing to stand out in the cold as part of a display. Really. The nerve of some people. I'll have to go by the Grinch patio tomorrow night too LOL.
