Well, all of my Christmas plans have been derailed over here and I am SO frustrated! DH got sick and despite my absolute best efforts of chugging EmergenC and masking in my own house, I also got it. (And don't even get me started on the fact he picked up the bug at work bc of a co-worker who came into the office with chills and a fever!! UGH!! She came in sick and got 3/4 people sick in DH's department. Unacceptable as they have UNLIMITED paid sick leave!) He was only mildly ill and was pretty much better within 2 days, but I had a fever for 48 hours despite taking fever reducers and couldn't move off the couch.
So because of that I guess my Christmas cookies and Chex Mix will become New Years Cookies and Chex Mix. We are supposed to go to my in-laws on Christmas Eve but I don't think I will be making it. I am still too concerned I am contagious and don't want to be coughing, etc. So I think it will be me and pup watching some Christmas movies on the couch. Of course, none of our presents are wrapped and I don't have the energy to wrap them. I had taken 3 days of vacation to wrap presents and bake. To say I am pissed is an understatement. It's one thing to get sick and not know where you picked it up, but to basically track it back to another person's selfishness is just a different level. I was already struggling a bit this Christmas with feeling depressed bc I haven't been able to go visit my family in a while and this is just the icing on the cake. I had decided I was just going to fully lean into Christmas this year and make it as special as I could and them BAM! knocked out on my a$$.
On a good note, I shipped 3 boxes to my family via UPS ground.... and they arrived in two days! Holy moly! I was a little late on getting them to the UPS dropoff and was concerned but apparently they put them on Santa's sleigh to get them delivered!
We have also been having frigid temps here like the rest of the country. It was sold cold last night my living room curtains were FROZEN to the window.

It's cold here and our electricity is out and I have COVID so I can't go to a friend/relative's house. I can't even hang out at Starbucks or the library to stay warm. Sigh. I hope it gets turned back on soon. Yikes! I hope it's back on soon! If it's not though, do like labby suggested, plus try tacking a blanket up over the windows in the rooms you are in, and putting rolled up towels at the bottom of the windows and doors. It really does help and it's easy to take back down. The seal on my front door at my place in ABQ was really bad so at night I used to take masking tape and tape the door at the sill . Kept the cold out and I could still open the door in case of an emergency

(We are out of tests so we have to get some.) I agree - there is no excuse to come in sick when the company offers you sick leave. I kinda get it in jobs where they do not offer sick leave or you are punished for using it, but his job is not like that.

Yikes labby! How did that happen? Wind? yes. High winds here. All the ash trees around here are dead. We had ours taken down a few years ago but the neighbors behind us and on the one side have been negligent in taking them down. it does cost a lot of money to get them removed.

I am sorry Pyrex. I hope you both feel better soon. We have tried to be careful as I get like double time and a half the next 8 work days. No one wants to miss that unless they want off. They are still giving public health days so we don’t even use sick days if we get Covid. We make sure we tell each other if someone even sounds sick. Someone should have sent that worker home.

Dawn - wrap up and just climb into bed - that's what I did when we lost our power. It's a bummer that you can't get anywhere so I hope you at least stay warm and get your power back!
We're frozen in - one solid sheet of thick ice everywhere, and nothing is moving. It warmed up just enough to rain last night, then it froze again, so there is ice on top of ice. Down in Seattle there are pile-ups everywhere as cars slide down the steep hills to pile up at the bottom. When I had my house in Seattle I was on about a 8% grade and the hill down from me was almost 10% - stuff used to roll down block after block to pile up against the guardrail that bordered the ravine that was too steep to negotiate - usually trash bins, trolleys, garbage cans and the like. After squalls people would troop down there and drag their stuff back up again. I hate to think of cars piled up there, half of them dumped onto the dirt road going through the ravine.
It's steep here but because the roads are winding and narrow rather than city streets, people are staying mostly home. A lot of the area is closed down.
I'm still too sick from the flu to care much - this stuff is a BUGGER!
I also opened my store again and sold a couple of things, but they'll have to go out tomorrow.

I hope everyone can stay warm.
Our power was out for about three hours earlier today. I took the opportunity to go to a grocery store and almost got knocked over by the wind while walking into the store. It was the strongest wind I've ever been in. It's calm now, but still cold.
My son is flying here from Colorado tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed that everything goes as planned.

(((Dawn))) I hope you are feeling better soon too! Is your power back on?: (((Labby))) I'm so sorry about your fence. That's awful.
They closed all the roads in the part of the county where we live. 2 snow plows ended up in ditches and they pulled the rest of them off the road until the winds die down. It never got above 0° here today and the winds are absolutely howling. The only times I've been out today is to walk the dogs.
Stay warm and safe everyone!

Everybody that's sick, iced in, your power's out or are in the way of the Arctic blast- hope you all are safe and get well soon!! We've been below freezing all week here in Portland and finally got precipitation- SLEET!! So my car is a sheet of ice and I can't open the door much less drive to the PO today. If I get a ding on my stats I guess that's just the way it goes :-( The rains are supposed to begin tomorrow... sure sounds good! If the PO is open in the morning I'll dash over and send the packages on their way! Now it's time to go thaw the hummer feeders again and set out fresh birdseed and water for the yard full of birds. Our cats have been stationed at the deck door all day watching all the activity at the feeders and on the ground below them.

((((pyrex)))) When you think about it, that co-worker must have some kind of hell going on at home to haul herself/himself into the office. It reminds me of my coworkers who used to love traveling for business, just to get away from their families. Sad, really. But no excuse for inflicting illness upon the rest. That deserves at least 6 months of the cold shoulder if not a good talking to.

Our power went out just after 11am and finally came back on around 7:10pm. Currently -3 not counting windchill and with complete silence you could hear the wind gusting making it feel like -24 outside. Yes, it got cold. DH was out most of the day, stopped by around 4:30pm to see we were still out of power and wanted me to come with him to MIL's, but I declined. At least I could light a burner with a match to boil water for hot tea. Took furnace about 5 minutes to kick in, had to reset main box to get cable, internet and phone back up and reset clocks and coffeemaker. Looks like I have a lot of catching up to do here. Dawn, I hope your power's back on, too. Definitely hope that doesn't happen, especially 8 hrs. downtime.
Pyrex- that sucks and pretty much what happened to me and yes, it sucks. Hope you're better soon.
Chap- flu is awful and hope you get over it quick.
labbypaws, sorry about your fence. At least it wasn't your house.
This storm isn't a huge snow event at much as a butt kicker in frigid temps and howling winds knocking out power everywhere.

I hope that my trash can is still in my driveway.
But I am reading on Facebook how everyone's Christmas decorations are trashed, especially the inflatables. I only have a lighted wreath on my front door, and it is still there so far. I am too old and cheap to put up lights everywhere.
I am sooo happy that I got my maple tree cut down a few years ago. But I have a ton of pine tree branches all over the snow in my front yard.
If you guys have eBay sales, you don't have to mail them until Tuesday. I have 3 sales and they all say that.

Someone got killed near here yesterday by a tree falling across a roadway. I believe they were in a car. It is one of my biggest fears. When I go to and come home from work on a really windy day I try to stay off the back roads until I get near here.
Hopefully today will be better for everyone. Wind is supposed to crank up again later.
Heard a loud boom while watching tv last night. Couldn’t find the source. Patio furniture did not move so it wasn’t that. Looking around the neighbors I don’t see anything. I actually went out with a flashlight to check because it was so loud.

So nice to wake up to heat and power on. Wish Yuppies would postpone coming to MIL's, but will probably have to bundle up and spend the day there. Might as well do load of laundry. Currently 2 degrees with windchill -22. SIL went over her daughter's and stayed overnight so DH went back over MIL's to sleep. It would have been nice to have the extra body heat in bed, so an extra "mink" blanket had to suffice. Temps will get going up to around 50 by next weekend. It doesn't look like we got much snow, at least from what I can see.
We're just glad we don't live in the primary snow belt in NE OH, around Erie, PA and especially around Buffalo, NY.

We would like to buy a whole house generator but then we would need to install a propane tank. No gas in our development. The portable one works. Just have to remind hubby to crank it up once a month.

Or think that no one else can do their job so they just "soldier on and go to work no matter what". Regardless of the reason, people who come into work sick when they have available time off AND the company encourages taking the PTO are selfish, incosiderate coworkers. You'd think 2+ years of COVID and seeing how fast it spreads would cause people to think twice about coming to work sick, but apparently that lesson wasn't learned. I'm sooooooo happy my office is remote. I can go into work sick if I want to and no one gets infected OTOH, I can also take the day off sick and no one gets upset that I'm not "in" the office.

It's pouring steadily out and we're back to our usual weather with rains for the foreseeable future. It's taking a while for the ice to dissolve, though, as it got pretty thick.
Tomorrow is the local pub 5K run, but it'll be so wet that I may have to bail. I'd do it, anyway, but for still struggling with this flu bug. I'd been looking forward to it, too - my running friend and I were going to do it.

Apartment office sent an email out about an hour ago that the water sprinkler pipes were freezing up so they shut the system off. They advised everyone to have their fire extinguisher handy and call 911 in case of fire
