Gosh Denise. Thinking of you. I haven’t had a colonoscopy because I can’t stand the thought of drinking the amount of liquid required. I most likely would barf it up. Have you done the Cologuard at home test? I did that when I was 40. Simple as wiping your butt. Yes. I did that.

I stocked up on groceries today. Went to BJs and got meat and shelf food. Should be good for 3 months except odds and ends.

If you're seriously against having a colonoscopy, don't have a Cologuard. They have about a 15% rate of False Positives which require an unnecessary colonoscopy afterward! Yep, you read that right - about 15%.

You can't use Uber or Lyft. It's my understanding that it isn't allowed due to the anesthesia.

I'm reaping the unfortunate consequences of not running for six weeks and now can barely walk on my left side. Urg. I had signed up for a nice 10 mile race along the Sound in April, beautiful course, rain or not, and I'll be stuck doing a 5k, but oh well. When I was running 20 miles a week I was at my best - every time I decrease running I have problems. Hiking works, too. Recovering from being dumped by my friend's dog, I had only been riding my bike, rowing and lifting weights. What's odd is that I'm very stiff walking, but if I run, even if it's just a stiff trot, I feel better. Getting in and out of the car is an adventure - I had to do it a lot today as I went to the post office, the nearby thrift to see if they had anything, store, etc. The DH is putting capsicum patches on the sore spot and kissing it - I think the kisses are very therapeutic!

69 today, I'll be doing laundry. It's finally warm enough for the sun to dry jeans and other things that don't go in the drier.

Fourth day of highs at 40. I am so over cold weather. Tomorrow we start a stretch back in the 60s and 70s plus the sun will be back. Better days are ahead. Could be worse, I know. I could be living in Ukraine.

Yep, you read that right - about 15%. I've taken the Cologuard test for the past 2 check up times and I think it's a godsend. I can't stand the nausea I get from the prep etc., etc. I think it's important to get screened for colon cancer as it is very easy to cure if you find it early, unlike some. The relatively high false positives are due to people having blood detected due to hemorrhoids (unpredictable) and people taking the test who really shouldn't as they don't meet the guidelines. My brother, who has a history of ulcerative colitis, was told by his internist that he could take it during the pandemic. No, uh uh, he got a positive result and is really in a group excluded for the test, along with the polyp people. Even considering the false positives, it still helps 85% of test takers avoid a colonoscopy which has its own risks as well as the nasty prep and trauma/inconvenience of having to see a doctor.

We have both taken it the last 3 years and I agree totally. My sister has IBS and isn't a candidate for it anymore, but she did take it years ago before the IBS with no problem. The test is very easy and non invasive and if for any reason it comes back positive, then we will get the dreaded colonoscopy. Which I hope never happens lol.

It has been in the 20's all day with a brisk frigid wind. Ugh.
However! My daylilies, irises and daffodils are all showing up! Just a tad too early though....

Just headed back from my brother’s. Long day. He looks fair. Color is off and he has lost 40 pounds or so. He has a couple of doctor appointments coming up. I told SIL to keep a food diary so she can see if some of his pain is related to foods she is giving him. He apparently had a bad day yesterday but is a bit better today.
He lives in Freeland, MD which is a 2.5 hour drive or so. We took the back way home as 83. and 30 were both messes with traffic and accident closures. That was a 3 hr drive home.

labbypaws, I'm sorry you're brother's still not improving that much and hope he turns the corner asap. Also sorry about the long drive time, but at least you made it home safely vs. being stuck in traffic or worse, part of an accident.
We had sun that clouded over and high of 29 today. At least it melted a lot of the ice and we even have icicles hanging from the balcony, which I've never seen before. Must be because we finally have exposure from all the branches/limbs removed. Too early for anything to bloom around these parts until spring springs, and that could be another month.

Witch Hazel and hellebore are blooming here - those are our early blooms - it's not cold here that determines so much but amount of sunlight.

We had snow early Friday morning started around 3AM, ended up with about 5-inches. Driveway and front walks were plowed/shoveled and the sun was beating down strong today so that's mostly cleared up, but the back yard and the rear deck are icy and slippery. I was able to shovel a bit of the snow on the deck, but by time I got to it today to finish it, it was hard and crusty from the cold temps, almost impossible to remove and too thick for the sun to melt through it. Will have to just wait it out.
Temps are on a crazy swing here, on Wednesday we had 60 degrees, then Thursday night it dropped down to 15 degrees. I really hope that it levels out and we can see some warmer weather.

Ate terribly yesterday, getting back on track today. Last night we binge watched the 7th season of 90 day Fiance. Still have some episodes to finish up today. It's so good. Watched a few episodes of 600 lb life that I somehow missed. Lots of tv watching going on here but oddly productive at the same time, I guess because we mostly just watch tv at night.

I grew up in upstate New York, where the crocuses were the first sign of spring, and that time would be weeks away from now. Here in North Carolina, the daffodils come up in early February.

I had some tulips and crocuses and they came up early too. But before I had my landscaping done, I didn't think to dig up and save the bulbs. But there weren't a lot, TG.
I did manage to dig up all of my daylilies and irises, though.

Yep, crocus bulbs are the first to bloom here in CT, about mid-March, then hyacinths late March, daffodils a few weeks later. Daylilies are not up here until late June. Crocus are so small that I really don't appreciate them, but the hyacinths are so fragrant. Someone before us planted a variety of multiple bulbs here to bloom one after the other all over the place. It's so nice to watch, as one species dies off, another is opening and blooming. But the blooms don't last long enough like annuals do.

You can't use Uber or Lyft. It's my understanding that it isn't allowed due to the anesthesia. If you have no one who can drive you home, you can discuss the anesthesia with the doctor and often they can make adjustments. It just depends on the procedure. I've had a few things done as an outpatient where the doc just switched up the anesthesia to a lighter one that has a faster recovery period, and in each case I just had to sit at the doctor's office a bit longer until they felt it was ok for me to leave, then I'd drive myself home or take an Uber. This last time, when I was discharged from the hospital, Uber billed the hospital and then it was submitted as part of the hospital bill to the insurance company.

I didn't know they could/would do that, I'll definitely ask when the time comes. It's worth a try.

Whatever I was given for my first colonoscopy didn’t knock me all the way out. I was very relaxed, but was alert. They had a screen where I could see the scope and they explained what they were doing as they did it. I was relaxed enough that I just wanted them to shut up and let me sleep. My cousin drove me there and home again, but didn’t have to stay with me. My last two, I had endoscopies at the same time and was more heavily sedated. (Unfortunately, I sang and made dumb jokes as I came to. How embarrassing!) DH took me to/from those and was told to stay home with me the rest of the day. So it did seem to have something to do with the type of anesthesia. I know I’ve had a friend tell me that she took an Uber home from hers.

Love the new background color and Easter motif on top, Val. Very spring-like. We just need the temps here to go with it.

When I couldn't drive after I broke my leg, I was happy to find out that my health care provided transportation for the 35 miles to the hospital in Pittsburgh.
So that might be something to check out. It was arranged through my local ambulance service.
