Supposed to be pushing 50 degrees today and tomorrow, so the 7" of snow we got last week will melt...so the backyard swamp will be back. Ugh!!

Spending today and tomorrow outside in 80+ degree sunshine as I will be inside for the next 4 days when the high is 44 degrees. The only good thing about 40 degrees is that my neighbor will be making chili.

It's currently 53 and sunny. Pretty much all but the piled up snow from plows has melted. I'm heading out to the grocery store, too, for a few things and checking out local Dollar General to stock up on a few $1 items. I knew Dollar Tree was going to raise prices, but other than a couple strips on shelving, there were no signs that everything had gone up and didn't notice until I thought total was higher than I estimated and checked receipt to find everything except a 50¢ card rung up $1.25. I realize it's only 25¢, but when you're on a fixed income, that adds up fast. I predict that's going to wind up losing customers and Dollar General gaining them if they keep similar items at $1.

Remember too that the CEO of Dollar Tree makes an outrageous salary, 7 figures, yet used "inflation" as the reason to raise store prices. They sure as hell didn't raise employee wages, and the stores here are advertising that they are hiring minors (rather than advertising a higher starting pay like other retailers). I may have to check out Dollar General. The kitties are enjoying the balcony right now. I'm sitting here watching my Japanese lanterns sway in the breeze and thinking how festive they look. Wonder why I never thought to decorate with them before? They're available in all sorts of colors and sizes. They'd make gorgeous decorations for a wedding on a budget. Not to mention looking really cool for an outdoor yard or deck party. I found some mosquito curtains that should work on my patio, and I found a long enough curtain rod that I don't have to try and rig something. Rigging would be cheaper than the curtain rod, but there's no guarantee it will work and I'm not in the mood to try. So curtain rod it will be! The balcony walls and overhang are stucco so I can't just hammer up some bug netting. The good thing about the curtains is I can leave them pulled back and open when I'm not on the balcony, so I don't think the apartment office with have a problem with them.

Well, I must say I am quite impressed with Dollar General. I haven't been to one (or Family Dollar) in years because both used to cram so much stuff into the relatively small stores it was hard to get through an aisle without a cart and aisles were haphazardly set up. I felt claustrophobic and I don't have claustrophobia. Totally surprised to walk in to a well organized, clean, neat store with space for a carts to easily maneuver. It's a lot closer than Dollar Tree and I will definitely be back when I need to replenish things if they're still $1 (or under).

The Dollar Generals in my area are always a hot mess. They also do not pay their employees well either.
I do go to the ones in my area on Saturday's though despite their flaws bc they do have some good deals. They always have really good digital coupons and Saturday's they always have a $5 off $25. They also take the $5 off $25 first then reduce your order by the other digital coupons

BFF wanted some the Valentine's Day Gnomes Dollar Tree got in about a month ago. She was in one when they had them but people had already filled their carts with them. In my travels I stopped in a few but was never able to score any.

Supposed to drop into the low/mid 20s over the next few days. The DH says he's going to have to wear his thickest cycling togs to get to the office tomorrow - at least his feet will be toasty with the goretex cycling boots I got him for Christmas! Fortunately, a dry northerly wind has dried the roads - it's bitingly cold but at least we won't have a skating rink with our perma-wet roads! Up until last night it was pouring.
We have a Dollar Tree south of me - it's mostly cheap Chinese plastic junk but IS a good place to pick up laundry and housecleaning items, and they have a few other things.

Pyrex- you're talking about Family Dollar, which is owned by Dollar Tree, so no surprise about the pay for employees. There's one a few miles from me that I haven't been to in years and it was sure a hot mess. Maybe I'll take a look next time I go that way to see if their $1 items also went up to $1.25.

No, Dollar Generals are separate but also don't treat employees well. Dollar Generals in my area are messy, but doable. Family Dollar, is another circle of hell that I will not step foot in lol. The Dollar Generals in my area only have two people working at any given time. They simply don't have the time to keep the store well stocked and run the register. There is always, always boxes stacked about and trolleys with merchandise waiting to be placed on the shelves. And, every single store in my area, the floors are filthy. Every single one.

Here is a happier update from me. The company DH and I bought our houses from (terrible company but sell real estate dirt cheap) used one of our flip houses in their advertisements. This shows the terrible condition the houses start in and what we do to them. We did 99% of the work ourselves. This house was flipped and sold in 3 months.

That transformation is amazing! New a/c installation today. They got here about 30 minutes ago. Crane won't be here until 11. I'm excited about all of this. It's forcing me to hide out in my office and focus on listing all day. Going to give my little ID some love. Got the 90's country music going on youtube Another cold snap coming through, 67 today but drops down to 59 tomorrow and Thursday. Back in the 70's over the weekend and 83 is in the forecast after that.

HEB had boxes of the duckbill N95 masks in stock, so I bought a box to try that style. At 20 ct for $20, it was worth a try. They fit me better than the rounded painter look style did, but they're still a bit too small on me. I didn't think I had an overly large or fat face, but apparently I do. That or my high cheekbones are causing the problem. Anyway, the fit is OK for short time events with big crowds, but I think I'll stick with my 4 & 5 layer cloth masks with the added filter. Unless maybe they make a larger N95 or KN95 mask? I'll have to look.
Sunny and 83 here today. Tomorrow's high is 52. I suspect Kritter is outside trying to cram in as much yard time as she can today. Me, I'm stuck inside working but I may close up early and do some work on the balcony while it's nice outside.

Tired of sitting in my office. Got 23 listings up on little id and two on main id. Need to get my steps in but have to go in the backyard if I want to get it done. A/C is on the roof and t-stat is in but looks like there's still quite a bit for them to do.

Got laundry out on the line and potting some of my starter Angel Trumpet plants. I always try and root as many as I can in case of a massive failure but this year I am overloaded with successes. Looks like I may have more than enough to sell some on NextDoor.
It is a beautiful day in the neighborhood for sure.

We are getting some of the cold weather here too, although as of yesterday morning they said it wouldn't be until Friday. Then yesterday evening it was whoops it will be this evening. I had a few errands this morning and was glad to get back home and be cozy with Janey
Well we went to see mom Monday and we found out that the guy that was "helping" us the previous week with the situation about moving mom had quit and no wonder we never heard a thing back from him. So we talked to another fella (my sister got his card) and he said they were just waiting for the nurse psychologist to evaluate mom in order to move her and she as there only once a week, on Mondays, and he would arrange for the evaluation to be that day so it wouldn't be another week. So we sit outside to visit and lo and behold in comes the nurse psychologist and she stops to chat with us and mom and my sister explained what was going on. And she said she didn't need to evaluate mom because she had talked to her many times and was well aware she could be moved and she would go inside and write up a report right away.
So you would think that's a good thing but my sister got a call from the new fella today and he said they moved mom Monday. yay! But no. First no one contacted my sister and they should have. But most concerning is the new room is distressing to mom because the roommate is religious and apparently sings and prays all the time. And he said they have another room but they aren't sure how that would work out because the person hollers and curses a lot! So he said they might have to put mom in a room by herself and my sister said Please Do! She would prefer that! So she left him a message and she's supposed to let me know when (if) she hears back. Poor mom From the frying pan into the fire. I told my sister apparently the only criteria they have to have someone one lock down or not is if they are "exit seeking". Other than that there appears to be some very serious dementia on the "other side" as well.

Sorry about your Mom, jesmelric. I take it a private room costs more and she can afford it? I did have to chuckle thinking what the room would be like with the religious singer/prayer and the swearer. Could be an interesting combination.
Latest forecast is sleet/ice/snow starting tomorrow evening into Friday morning with 3-6+ inches of snow. Hoping DH has enough sense to wait if roads are as bad as predicted until conditions improve. Hope power stays on. It was 56 yesterday, 27 today and not improving until maybe later next week.

Jes, I hope that your mom can be moved soon. When I was in the nursing home, a lady across that hall yelled "Help Me" day and night. I wore ear plugs at night to sleep.
I went to my $ General today and it is only a mile from my house. It is only 3 years old and always clean and well-stocked. I needed help getting a bottle of detergent from the top shelf and couldn't find anyone to help me. As I went up and down the aisles, I did encounter totes of stock that weren't there previously. So someone was working there, but I never saw them. I finally found a little step stool so I used it to reach the detergent.
So apparently, that store only has 2 people working there too.
LOL, after I emptied my items from my cart into my car, a middle-aged lady insisted on taking the cart back to the store, although she was also leaving. First time that has ever happened. So apparently I look like the typical, little old lady who needs help.

LOL, after I emptied my items from my cart into my car, a middle-aged lady insisted on taking the cart back to the store, although she was also leaving. First time that has ever happened. So apparently I look like the typical, little old lady who needs help. Not always. I make the offer lots of times, no matter what the age. It guarantees me a cart if the store is busy I moved the big fern and the rosemary plant back into the storage room and covered them with a blanket. We're supposed to get down to 29 tonight and 36 tomorrow night. After that though the night temps are cold but not anywhere near freezinbg so I'll bring them both out again Friday. Queen Kimberly ferns can actually handle the random cold night, but not a hard freeze or frost. Chance of freezing rain tonight and tomorrow morning, which I sincerely hope does not happen as I have a Dr appointment tomorrow and I've already changed it once Good thing Kritter has lots of cats to keep her warm! When it gets cold in the apartment, Simon likes to curl up behind my knees when I sleep and sometimes Toby snuggles up against my back. One night they were sleeping one on either side of me and had me pinned down
