Hard to believe we're this close to kicking another year to the curb. I hope everyone had a great Christmas (if you celebrate) or at least a nice weekend. Hope everyone enjoys the last of 2021 and goes into 2022 with a sense of hope we can finally get over the Covid hump and see light at the end of the tunnel.

Spent the whole night tossing and turning. A little doggie on my walking route went missing at 12:30 this morning. I knew it would be too hard to look in the dark. Got up early and adjusted my walking route and time to look for him. One of the people nearby found him. Doggy is 15 and has cataracts and is starting to have cognition issues. We have coyotes and hawks around here that could have made a meal out of him.
Hopefully another semi-quiet week at work. A few of the teams start coming back shortly.

I'm glad the little old dog was found! We worried about Jamie going outside being blind and deaf, but she stayed very close to the house and would only be out for a short time. After a while I wouldn't let her out at all, but once she wandered out and I didn't see her - bad, sleepless night over that, too, hunting in the bushes and everywhere with a flashlight.
It's 16 degrees out - that's all I can say.

Glad that pup was found Labby- the poor little fella must have been terrified! Ya got us beat Chap- we're a balmy 27 degrees with new snow overnight! This is yesterdays snow, which melted off and was replaced with an identical dusting this AM. Dean's on the table by the window enjoying the bird show.

We're having another week of above normal temps with rain instead of snow at least til maybe Sunday. Absolutely not complaining and enjoying every moment of it while it lasts since it usually looks like RetroMonde's pic and feels like hers and Chaps temps by now.
DH was supposed to go to casino today and tomorrow with Butthead and come back on Wednesday. Butthead called last night to say his sister tested positive for Covid. (No surprise since the rest of her family already tested positive). They live next door to Butthead and his elderly Mom and was supposed to take care of her, so now Butthead has to stay home to do it. DH was bummed about canceling and I said I'd go with him. MIL's heat went out Christmas Eve so it works out pretty good he'll be around today when furnace guy shows up. He canceled room for today and we'll go tomorrow and come back Wednesday. I have a few errands to do, then get an overnight bag together.

I was watering my Queen Kimberly fern this morning and marveling at how it managed to survive (and grow) despite months of neglect. I think it deserves to be repotted in a nice, larger planter. Which will also help it survive when our "cold" weather finally arrives. Meanwhile, back at the office in NM...looks like Wednesday might be an iffy day for outdoor construction so I just emailed one of my clients and told her she could turn in payroll hours to me Wednesday morning instead of tomorrow, so they would know if Wednesday would be a paid work day or not. We're closing at noon Wednesday so everyone has to turn hours in early, but I gave them until literally the last possible hour to turn in their hours. It doesn't take much effort to look up the weather and email and it makes us look good to the client This is one client we do not want to follow the previous bookkeeper from here who left to go to a competitor and tried to poach all the clients she was assigned to.

Dang Kritter, we won't even hit the 60's here this week. What a bummer! We have high 70s this week and then we fall off a cliff into the cold 50s range for highs next Sunday. Not looking forward to it but will be out in the yard this week.

Hello everyone. From looking through last week's thread it looks like everyone had a nice holiday We did as well. It was very warm, also the warmest Christmas on record here. I think it was 84. That was good for the Christmas Eve buffet because even scaled down we wanted to try and keep everyone outside. Make a plate and then go outside. So that worked out well. And it turned out DS did not have to work after all, and surprised me by coming so that was really fun. So that was a really nice day. And we picked mom up for Christmas day and had a good dinner and she had a very nice phone call with her sister.
DH got me the new printer I picked and I like it a lot better than the old one. It's way smaller and it has a tri-color ink cartridge rather than 3 separate color ones, which I was really tired of. And a nice bonus is the paper feeds from the back rather from underneath the tray where the printed paper comes out so that makes it way easier to load paper. It's very humid here and paper/labels stick together and you pretty much have to feed them one at a time. And I got a ton of bath products for my soaks so I am positively wealthy!!
The low this morning was 70 and when I walked Janey at 6 am it was shorts and a t-shirt, no jacket at all. Kritter, your yard is lovely! My morning glories are in full bloom as are my roses. So crazy for this time of year.
Friday DS and DIL are coming over for grilled burgers for her birthday and Saturday mom and my sister are coming for New Year's, I'm roasting a chicken. I think I'm getting a bit tired of cooking so much lol.

Thank you. It was zeroscaped for my backyard cats to have as a playground. Now that I don't have any backyard cats anymore, I keep it that way because I like it better than grass. The majority of the plants are established so not very much upkeep except cutting back the ones that freeze over the winter.
My front yard has pretty much gone the floral route too. I planted quite a few bougainvillea out there this summer and they are blooming full speed now.

View out my kitchen window. Nothing is ploughed where I am - people are getting around on skis, snowboots, snowshoes, etc. I see people pulling their groceries home on sleds, which is a lot better than carrying them. If we're going to have snow, now is a good time because Boeing (a big employer) is closed between Christmas and New Years, a lot of the IT people telecommute anyway, more since the pandemic, so we don't really have a big 9-5 culture very locally, schools are closed of course (that's kind of were some of the commuting also is with busses, etc) It's very quiet with lots of people out playing. I did my post office run but unfortunately couldn't walk or snowshoe my packages out as I'm having a bit of hip problems and it's 7-8 miles RT to the post office - I just don't want to risk it as I've just started walking again (was rowing and biking), so I had to drive, but the chains make it easy, and everyone is just taking it easy, anyway - some of the roads are just heaped with snow. Got a nice 2 mile walk in on the trail to a local lake and back, though, to get started back to running again. It's about 20-21 deg out so I wore my mask to keep my face warm - handy!

Some friends flew into Seattle today. I just got a text saying their connecting flight is cancelled, and they have to rent cars (it is the mom and dad who are close to my age, their two daughters and their families so 9 total) to drive 6 hours across snowy mountain passes. I wish they would hunker down and make the trip tomorrow, as I think it's 6 hours on a good day so even longer when it's snow covered, but they are determined to head out tonight. There are 3 grandkids 5 and under.

Howdy! Hope you all enjoyed your holidays so far! Ours was nice & quiet, cold but unfortunately, no snow. We were hoping for some white stuff since it makes it so pretty here in the woods.
I just posted on the POSHMARK thread that I am co-hosting the Everything Kids Party on 12/29 at 7PM EST in case anyone has a listing they would like me to feature as a Host Pick. I am putting the information here also, in case there are those that have been thinking of opening a POSHMARK "closet" but haven't done so yet. I would be happy to feature any new closet that has a kid's item listed. Just contact me through my POSH closet @foresttreasures. I have a listing that is a party announcement, just leave me your new closet name there & I will check it out! It would be great if one of your first listings turned into a fast sale!
Happy New Year everyone! Let's hope 2022 is a healthier, happier, more back to normal one!

Most states I've lived in that had higher elevation snowfall, anytime you headed out and it required traveling a pass, you checked the weather forecast and road closure maps before you left. And during the trip.

I didn't even realize it until I turned on the outdoor flood lights and said what the heck, not again. The deck is covered with about 2 inches so far. Your flowers are beautiful, Kritter. Makes me jealous and wanting the warmer weather. We won't see flowers until March when the first of the Spring flower-bulbs start to pop-up.

And during the trip. White Pass is open (southern pass) - if someone is coming from Seattle and going east of the mountains, that's about it, and it's a longer haul going down towards Oregon which accounts for the 6 hours on a 'good' day - waiting a day won't do any good as we'll probably have more snow soon and had a few inches last night - they probably had better just go now before it gets any worse. We had a couple more inches of snow last night.

Our snow mostly melted away yesterday but we woke to about 3-4 inches of new snow. I haven't been outside yet but it must be good snowball snow because some neighbors have built an EPIC snowman on the side of our street- it's really awesome! Since we have yet more snow I'm going to ice dye some more fabric. I've been learning how to use various dyes this past year and have an indigo vat and other tools set up in the greenhouse. Good times! :-)
Kritter, what are the red flowers in your top pix? The colors are stunning!

Working from home today, which thus far has consisted of taking 2 calls and cleaning out my email...not going to complain. Getting paid to watch TV isn't all that bad, but I'm actually kind of bored.

Retromonde, I'm not kritter, but I grew up even farther south in Texas. The purple and the reds in her top photo are Bougainvilleas. They bloom most of the year. Each plant will rest for a short period, but not seasonally, so if you have several there will always be blooms on most of them. We took them for granted. If we had to decorate for an event we'd use them when nothing else was blooming. We'd cut off sprays & lay them down the middle of the table. They'd stay pretty for several days. The bright colored parts are not petals, but bracts. The flower is tiny white & yellow in the middle.

I even took arrangements out to the cemetary this year for Christmas because I had so many blooming right now. I even have more in the front blooming and those I just planted last summer.
When I am out in the front yard, I often have people stop and ask why mine are doing so good and their's are just growing bigger with no flowers. I tell them that is because they are paying too much attention to them. They don't need fertilizer and they don't need water after they are settled. Bougainvillea bloom under stress. If I water the other plants like the pentas and the hibiscus during the summer, I don't water the bougainvillea. If you water them, they grow into beautiful green leaf plants but there won't be any flowers.
I also have orange, white, and a deep purple that I see people stop and snatch cuttings from because it is a hard color to find.

Bougainvilleas are hardy plants. They can even survive the heat in Phoenix and are often planted on the sides of the freeways/road medians.

Got my dental work started sooner than expected, partly so that I could use insurance benefits for this year that I'd lose otherwise. Got 6 crowns started today, 3 on each side on the top in the back. It'll be a long process but hopefully by end of January or not long after I'll be done.

FedEx just sent out a notification of delayed shipments from NW US due to weather.
I ordered a jacket from Filson. Not sure who they use to ship. No biggie. Just interested in seeing if it fits. Hate buying stuff when I don’t know what size I wear.

Had the first snow of the season here (Chicago area) and everyone unplugged their brain! You would think they'd slow down driving, but NOOOOOOO! Everyone thinks it's the Indy 500! Idgits! It was the record latest snowfall, or something like that. It's up to 38° so most of it has melted already.

Our Christmas was also warm. I am loving the warm spell. It was 50 degrees yesterday and we went for a long walk. It was nice to be outside in just a shirt and warm sweater.

Weather here has been non-stop damp and overcast. Taking a walking break today. Will be walking at work from 3:30-6:30 anyway.

We're getting some winter weather. 47 right now with a high of 56. It rained overnight but it looks like it'll just be cloudy today which is good because it's a shop day.
These temporary crowns are going to be a problem. The three on each side are all one piece. The right side came off last night and I wasn't even eating anything chewy or crunchy. Guess it'll be soups soft foods only for a while. I've been thinking about making shepherd's pie, now I have an extra good reason.
