Flannel lined jeans are one of man's greatest inventions!! Mine will be getting a lot of use this next week. Forecast for today is 8" of snow, with possible more lake effect tomorrow. Then lows in the single digits for the next week or so. I really don't mind. I'll be able to take the dogs out in the back yard and let them RUN!! It's been so mild and rainy that the yard is a total swamp! They like running much better than the walks they've been forced to take.

Happy New Year everyone! After the 50's for most of last week, I woke up to 10 this AM & a bit of snow. DH just opened the door to the garage & froze me out in the laundry room. Luckily he did all the errands yesterday, so neither of us has to go anywhere today.

Haven’t seen the sun in a while. Hoping the cold freezing the yard.

DANG I'm glad someone mentioned flannel lined jeans! Back during last summer's heat dome heatwave I snagged a pair of flannel lined Eddie Bauers or something similar just in case it got cold this winter. Since it was so hot I just left them rolled up behind a back seat! Yaa! It's supposed to drop to 20 degrees overnight and then we're supposed to see a gradual warmup to torrential rain and some wind next week. I'll bring those jeans in tomorrow, wash them and get them stashed with my wool socks & heavy sweaters for the next chill. And I guess it's time to tidy my minivan again.

It's lightly snowing here so good day to stay inside and dig out the "brrrr" clothing. My flannel jeans are first on the list. An alternative is baselayer tights under pair of jeans/pants, if you can't afford/find flannel lined jeans.
DH will be gone until later today so good opportunity to get stuff done around here. I don't get much done when he's here because he has the bad habit of deciding he has to be underfoot wherever I am trying to do something.

Happy New Year! It's still chilly here. We wanted to get out of the house yesterday so we took a drive to Tucson for a little shopping fun. Wasn't all that fruitful but the change of scenery was still nice. One of the stops was a GW bin store, I've only been to a few and never this one. Decided I'm not a bin shopper. If there was one close by I might enjoy carving out some time to dig. Can't get into it otherwise.
I have another family rant. We were invited to where my dad and step are staying. It's about a 20 minute drive north from here, all freeway. We planned on only staying a few hours but Cliff got tangled up in a poker game that he was committed to and it didn't end in until after 1am... UGH. Right before we leave it starts raining pretty good. As we are leaving their friends say text when get home to let us know you made it okay. You should have seen the look on step mom's face.... kind of like shhhhh.... we don't act like we care about these two... lol. This is not something either of one of them have ever said. Mentioned it to Cliff this morning. He just rolled his eyes. So I asked him if his mom asked him to check in when he made it home safely from an event. His reply was of course yes.

We are getting whatever comes. We are on the upper border of a snowstorm if it doesn’t shift. If it shifts north we can get screwed. These are the type of storms that end up being a surprise.
Husbands under foot. Mine always…. I tell home that when I am getting ready for work, stay out of the kitchen. This way I can make my tea, pack my dinner, etc. of course he always decides to start cooking dinner or lunch when I am trying to get out if the house.

I'm betting if we ever move south that I would never think that let alone say that. I'd probably complain how hot and humid it is in summer, but I would never miss winter up here. Ever.

I missed winter. That is a statement that will never enter my mind or come out of my mouth. What good is winter weather unless you live in a ski /snowboard place?

Winter around here cost a LOT of money for a lot of residents. Snowplowing of a driveway sometimes 3x week at 60.00-100.00 a clip for a normal to longer length driveway, depending on width. We have a 3-car garage so it's very wide at the top. Heating oil this year has soared. You need 3-4 large bags of snow-melt for your walk-ways and to scatter over your driveway after the plow guys are finished plowing and shoveling. If it gets really cold at night you will have severe icy conditions after the plows are done, not good especially if you have deliveries coming. And if you order any liquid items and they get caught in a deep-freeze situation, you will receive frozen fabric softener, frozen canned goods, etc. (learned my lesson on that one).
If you leave your garage doors open and by chance there's a room above with plumbing, you chance freezing pipes and a mess if they freeze (been there). We can't even warm up our cars if we're having a freeze unless we pull them out and warm them up in the driveway, too afraid to leave the door up for more than a few minutes and the ceiling is insulated in the garage and sheet-rocked.
It's a scary feeling when you can't open a storm door against 4' of snow that fell during the night, we feel trapped when that happens. A few winters ago we had snow hip-high, I couldn't walk around to the back of our house, out to our shed, etc. The mail carrier won't deliver our mail unless we carve out a pull-up area for her to pull up to in front of the mail box. After the town plows have gone through, the snow is jam-packed tight, huge mounds on the curbside, almost impossible to dig into and shovel out. And that's if the plows don't cause your mailbox to come off your post, one winter they took down 5 in a row. When we go into a deep-freeze and have a cold spell that goes on day after day, it's very tiring and worrisome. I can deal with a heatwave a lot easier.

I guess when you grow up with snow, it's not that big a deal. We never had any frozen pipes or other disasters.

Desire you summed it up pretty well. We don’t usually get much snow here though. Usually comes when hubby is away. Then I have to work the snowblower.

Ugh Desire. Where do you live? I am in PA. I also hate snow unless I don't have to go out in it. But then I have to worry about carrier pick-ups.
Since I live alone and can't shovel snow, sometimes I am in a bind. I do have an electric snow thrower and that helps a bit.
However, we only had 1/10" of snow in Dec. And it has been raining here for a couple of weeks. I will take rain. But then I worry about my family room flooding again.

I swear the weather people love to cause panics. They've been harping about this giant storm that was going to hit us for a week. They were forecasting us to be in the 8+" range and people were losing their minds! We got (at the most) 3" yesterday and maybe 1" of lake effect today. Not even enough to get the Jeep with the plow out. DH got the quad with the plow and mostly had fun in the driveway! The dogs finally got to run, but the mud is still soupy under the snow since it wasn't cold enough to freeze. The cold comes tomorrow.

This neighbour is routinely confused. I just remember when we lived out east climbing out through the window to shovel the snow away from the door to get it open after a blizzard. I also remember icicles extending from the eaves to the ground in solid bars. I was just a kid then, though, so didn't have to deal with any of the other issues like heating oil and the like. One of our chores was shoveling out the driveway and walkway, then breaking through the wall of snow the snowplough would toss up when it finally came through. My bro' and I would take turns as it was heavy work.

Two 3 days weekends in a row was a little much. Thrilled to have the house back to myself and the routine normal again. Thinking about putting myself together and making a run to old navy, still in search of more sweaters and it looks like many are on clearance. Sweaters aren't all that popular here so there should hopefully be a decent selection.

NM is the perfect state for weather IMO. All four seasons, and none are extreme. There are a few 100+ summer days, and some really bad freezing winter days, but overall if you are not at a high elevation, it's perfect. The higher elevations get snow (yay!) but it's usually the dry powder ski type snow. I'd love to be able to move to Ruidoso.
