I'm curious. Those of you who list on Posh - why don't you also list on Mercari? The Mercari fee is a flat 10%. Posh fee is over 35%.

I sell hard goods on Mercari, but haven't had luck with clothing there. I've only tried a couple things. I have my search set to let me know when Rothys are listed in my size, and they are almost always sold by the time I look, but seem to take longer to sell on eBay. (They are always out of my price range on both). I'm not sure how other brands do there, but I'm thinking of giving shoes a try there.
At first I thought Posh's fee was outrageous but I'm good with it now. It has traffic looking for fashion, easy to list, gracious buyers and very few hassles.
Mercari's shipping makes it so much easier to sell collectibles, teapots, puzzles, etc., lower cost heavier things where shipping makes it cost prohibitive for buyers on eBay.

Posh is 20%, not 35%, unless you are selling things under $15, then it's a flat $2.95.

I might try Mercari for some CDs or something. I am going to have a ton of DVDs that I need to get rid of, so I may put them in lots.

Once you sign up, you'll get coupons like crazy. My last was $20 off $40 but $5 off $15 is frequent too. Keep in mind where the price point is on the ones you get since they are probably the same for everyone - so if you're waffling between asking $35 or $39, go for $40., etc.

Mercari also suggests to buyers on the buy screen that they make an offer to the seller for a better price, so keep that in mind when pricing your stuff there. It's apparently a fairly new feature.

The web app looks seamless - no fiddling with a cell phone to get to certain functions. Hmmm... I'm kind of over-stretched as it is, though, with six sites (though Bonanza doesn't really count as nothing sells there and I just use it for storage because eBay loses so many listings).

I don’t think I’ve ever had a sale there that wasn’t an offer, even prior to the additional notice. The cheapest of cheap seem to dwell there.

I've honestly never looked at Mercari until reading this thread, might give it a shot now so thank you Val!

I think the payouts are quicker there than on Poshmark. Once you trade positive feedback, it’s then available for transfer. They say five days but it seems quicker than that.

Betty posted a convo here she'd had with one of her customers there - over a $5 top. Over a $5 top AFTER Betty had accepted the offer.

Some sellers in my local online seller group are selling on Mercari with good luck. They price higher than their happy price so they can get their happy price when the buyers "negotiate". It's not much different than BO on eBay, TBH. I've had stuff up on Posh for weeks with no sales. I don't think the demographic I sell to shops there. I don't mind lower prices on Mercari since I'm listing stuff that didn't sell on eBay and is headed for donation anyway if it doesn't sell on M.

Did you change the aspect ratio of your pictures for Posh? I was looking at the ones at the top of your closet and they look almost waist length at first glance, but the measurements show they are hip or longer. Maybe put different ones at the top like that green pinstripe one and mention something about being able to French tuck or half tuck it. That shirt is perfect for that look and Queer Eye has made it the thing for this minute. That adorable orange kimono is something I would have grabbed to put on Poshmark too. I honestly think the photo makes it look short and people that like longer toppers will pass it up. Your prices are great and in my experience people that shop at that price point love to bundle - probably to justify the shipping costing almost as much as the item. Maybe add some cheap tanks/shells or accessories to encourage bundling.

Posh requires square pictures so I had to resize them from what I use on eBay. I take eBay pics with my camera turned so they come out oblong. I may take the original oblong pics and make them smaller, that might work. They're sized for eBay at 1500 px, which appears to be too large for Posh and Mercari.
I'm not crazy about the whole party vibe on Posh. I don't want to party with shoppers, I want to put my stuff up like a store does and let people shop.

I don't get the party thing either. I think buyers search for things. I don't think they get an alert and say, "Oh I want a sweater, but I'll just wait until until the sweater party at 4 tomorrow to shop." I bought before I sold there and it wasn't from a party invite (I turned them off). If I happen to be sharing my closet and have things that are eligible for a party that might be happening, they automatically share to the party when I E,N,L share. If eBay had a feature that my items would show up top every time I shared them, you bet I'd participate, so since Posh offers it, I do it and try for twice a day. It really doesn't take long. As far as the pictures, I have several things that have borders because they were rectangles and I hate it. I either pinched my picture into the square and hit next (black border) in app or took the time to set up an automation to place on a white square in photoshop. I'm trying to remember to take all my pictures as a square now since that's what eBay wants too, but forget most the time. A lot of sellers add the brand or size along the sides to make the square, but I'm not doing all that extra bs for my average $10. I resisted selling on Poshmark a long time because I kept reading it was like social media, but was pleasantly surprised when I bought my mom a wallet she'd been looking for that it wasn't like that at all. I'm glad I found it and I'm happy to know if I could no longer use eBay, there is an alternate venue to pay for the roof over my head.

I just figured out how to make the pictures square AND keep the dimensions from the original portrait picture. There are several apps that will do this if you use your phone for pics. I do not. I found the square 1:1 setting on the crop tool in Photoshop. It's easy to use, so I can make one set of square pics for all sites (including eBay) and still keep the original shape. I can't go back on pics I've adjusted, unfortunately. But it's good to know for new stuff.

I think Posh uses the same style of gallery as Etsy where it takes a square (or 4:5 aspect ratio - not sure) in the middle of the shot, so I do what kat does, and put mine in a white square for the first photo. Despite all my work, I've only sold three items, so I'm not sure what I sell is really 'poshable' - I have some cheaper stuff to list, but if I'm going to spend 2 danged hours a day on this, I need to start making some more money.

I don’t know how “poshable” my things are, I just keep adding stuff that doesn’t seem ebayable. It’s.....imposhible to guess correctly.

LOL. I'll double list everything I have - I notice some pretty pricy things sell there when I check prices, though.

Everything I want to buy is never underpriced, clearanced, seller doesn’t know what they have, etc. Online and real-life. Just like Tieks and Rothys. If I see them they are behind the counter with a $200 price tag, but I still have them on saved searches and in thrifts I look through each flip flop bin just hoping.

The 1:1 square crop feature in Photoshop works perfectly! I don't know why I didn't notice it before. It makes squares while keeping the original dimensions and adds maybe 1-2 clicks to my picture processing. Easy! Now I can have one set of pics for everywhere.

I don't have Photoshop - I do have Paintshop Pro so I can explore that, but my it's not many clicks for the way I do it - it's very handy because it makes one's closet look cleaner and fresher.

I've been selling on Mercari for awhile. It's just like everywhere else, oversaturated. I think the majority of buyers are young. I showed my oldest daughter the app. She's been selling her collectible stuff and toys, video game stuff, etc. and does well. Her stuff usually sells within a day or two. Clothes do not sell well.
Forgot to add that Rae Dunn seems to sell well there. Which is weird because I see it at TJ Maxx for 4.99?

The problem with Mercari is rampant buyer abuse, not much better than ebay. I sold 6 items there, 2 were returned because they were "not as described". And get this: when buyer claims SNAD, you don't see what their problem is, you do not see it all and you have zero say. Mercari then decides. Two perfectly good items were returned to me, and I have no idea why.

I think I'll just not go there - the cheapskates are the worst customers. They think our time is worth nothing, just like theirs seems to be.

I still have this constant "bundler" on Posh. No matter how low I go, she declines. She even does this on stuff that I price at $10. She just put another blazer in a bundle and I am going to ignore her.

Post by chapeaunoir on Nov 9, 2018 20:11:56 GMT
I started ignoring someone who was doing that, and offering ridiculously low price on expensive bundles (like $60 on a $150 bundle which already had 15% off). Her last attempt I just ignored and it went away. I did haggle a bit with her, I'm willing to do that to an extent, but after already offering discounts I found it a little egregious. She offered $35 on a $78 vintage (rather rare) haori kimono, etc. I finally had to put a note in my "offers" listing saying I'm reasonable, but not 35-70% off reasonable, particularly on already discounted bundles (I also mentioned it in my bundles).
Now I know why so many sellers post that percentage off grid and posts that say PLEASE BE REASONABLE.
I'm trying to keep it friendly and 'up', though.
