Just made 2 sales on Mercari this morning and I only have about 20 listings up. Sold a set of 3 toddler books and a plus sized top. The books sold at posted price and the top was listed at $16, she offered $12 and I accepted. So it wasn't a typical very low-ball that I get on Posh.
Still trying to figure out on Mercari how to converse with my buyers.

Both times I've tried, I had sales on both sites for the same thing (same buyer). Purchased on eBay first. They didn't take it off their site. I'll never do business there are a buyer or seller.

Mercari doesn't sync.
I'm thinking of moving what's left of my clearance vintage over there.

I didn't think that Mercari synced.
Mercari immediately removed the sold items from my listings, and I removed them from Posh and eBay. I woke up at 4am, checked my emails, then dreamed for 2 hours about not being able to figure out how to remove the books from eBay.
At least Mercari doesn't expect me to share and follow.

Nope. You're right. That was Bonanza! I hate Bonanza. I've never used Mercari.

Just figured it out. I can send a message to the buyer on Mercari only through my cell App. Hate when I can't do stuff on this desktop.

BONUUUUUSSSS!! I might throw a bunch of cheap stuff on there - cleaning out the house, and with some markets bailing from eBay I intend to follow them.

Mercari sends out a lot of coupons. I’m not sure how different they are between users, but look at the threshold of what they offer you. If it’s $5 off $15 then instead of making your item $10 plus shipping, make it over. $15 and free shipping. I usually list things at $16, $21, $26, etc. because of their coupons.

How have your sales been? Do you offer a different type of merchandise, double list or? I've been exploring over there and haven't got quite a handle on what their market is, if any particular market (besides the 'cheap' market which is pretty much universal).

I haven’t listed anything for quite a while. In fact I just got a message that my items have been deactivated since I haven’t logged on for a while. It’s easy to list. I sell things like mugs, Willow Tree, throw pillows, coasters, board games, and Rae Dunn. It’s THE place for Rae Dunn but the market is fickle. There are people that go to TJ Maxx daily to source it and I only pick it up if it’s at a thrift or yard sale cheap. I’ve sold some framed Laural Burch prints, a cookie jar, a teapot with a missing lid (teapot vase) and stuffed animals too. I like the chat feature there. I’ve been stretched thin with side jobs that mercari was the one to neglect. It’s easy, but doesn’t make money like Poshmark or eBay. I also have to drive to drop off Fedex and UPS packages.

Thank you! I have nothing of that sort to get rid of - I noticed the Rae Dunn lol. SOAP DISH! JUG! MUG! They have cool shapes, though.

Kat-thanks for the $$ amount reminder. The top that I sold and the books were both free shipping.
Why don't you choose USPS shipping? My only choices are USPS or FedEx.
My biggest challenge with Mercari and Poshmark are finding poly bags without eBay written on them. And remembering not to use eBay tissue or tape.

I also noticed that I get a lot more likes on my items than I do on Posh, be it clothing or misc.

Chap...if you want to try mercari, have one of us invite you. We would get a $2 coupon, but you would get a $10 coupon.

Not many things I’ve sold there are under 1lb and it’s always been much cheaper using their Fedex rates. I haven’t tried listing clothes there. Don’t forget to use Sellhound to decide if you should ask for less or more between platforms. For example, search Chico’s 3 and see the average sold is about $3 more on Mercari than Ebay and almost $9 more on tradesy than Ebay.

Whoa. I have a 2X Lane Bryant top to sell. EBay $12.24 Poshmark $15.97 Mercari $16.89 Tradesy $17.67 Fees vary but it’s a good reminder for me to price accordingly.

Tradesy usually fetches the best on some of these labels, it's just getting people to FIND you.

If I am looking for a certain item, I check on eBay, Etsy, Amazon, Posh, and Mercari for the best price. I thought that most people would do the same.

Some brands have a reputation of doing better on one or the other. Supposedly brands like Chico’s and Lane Bryant don’t sell well on Poshmark but Loft and AEO do. I found it interesting that Ebay is coming up low, especially if you consider how many might be free shipping with shipping built into the price. Tools like sellhound and completely are just easier ways to get the info. I don’t crosspost everything.

If you’re talking as a buyer, I don’t know how many people price check like that. I only check multiple sites if it’s a larger purchase.

I am so behind the times....I had to Google zines, since I never heard of that term. As in selling "books and zines".

Just got my first good review on Mercari. Interesting how sellers can leave good or poor reviews for buyers.

I used to sell 'zines - boat loads of them. I still have some left (1870s Scientific Americans). The problem with selling them is that they can't go media mail, and any of them printed on glossy stock of any size at all, get very heavy very fast. For instance, I was bundling issues of Winning magazine (bike racing) enough to fit into a medium flat rate box - I could get quite a few in and just batched successive numbers that way. I didn't make much but they were such an easy list, cleared out the house and provided beer money. I sold boxes of those things before I ran out.

I do like Mercari-just made my 5th sale in less than a month. And I only have about 100 items listed. I sold one clothing item and 4 misc/toys.
So it is a much better sell-through rate than Posh or eBay for me.
Mercari doesn't seem to have the ultra low-ball mentality that Posh does. And if a buyer doesn't leave FB within 3 days, we get a "great" rating of 5 stars.
My boyfriend is doing well with his bras.

Maybe you should look at reducing the number of items listed on eBay - it could be you have too much in one store and it's overwhelming to buyers. Less item+more sales=better sell-thru which may or may not help search placement on eBay (I don't know for sure on that).

Maybe you should look at reducing the number of items listed on eBay - it could be you have too much in one store and it's overwhelming to buyers. Less item+more sales=better sell-thru which may or may not help search placement on eBay (I don't know for sure on that). If their search database works as I believe it does (it's just based on other distributed computing platforms like Hadoop, etc.), my theory is that a seller's store is treated as a cohort, and the items within that cohort will affect the performance of that cohort factored as STR. So if one has a lot of items in that store (cohort) that turn over in say 90 days (which is the number eBay gave us for 'stale' items) compared to number of items as a whole for a high STR, the entire store will rise in search results. If one has a lot of items in one's store that have been there for a long time and haven't sold, it'll drag the entire cohort down in search results. It's why I pull items after 90 days. I have old items that sell, but they haven't been listed and relisted for more than 90 days (unless they're unusual and need their buyer) - I do other things with them, or my entire store will get dragged down. GTC is doable for me because my items sell fast enough in some categories, but I found that it's a poor idea to use it on others due to their needing their buyer to come along, so I do a mixture of GTC and 30 day. This I learnt after using GTC for four months as an experiment. It's really better to pull ancient stuff out of one's store - let it sit and relist it as sell similar seasonally, or donate it. I learnt this even in my own small store. It's one reason my revenue has spiked up.

Someone else here mentioned click-through rate - that's very valuable information, too, but it's item-by-item, and eBay gave definite guidelines actually for time listed so I find those easier to use overall. The item by item I'll use if I feel like it, but honestly, I haven't that often. It either stays or goes based on time listed.

Funny- I live right next to I-205 in Portland. The billboard (ack) opposite the dining room window has been advertising Mercari for the last 3 months. After mentally saying 'no way' when it was first activated I'm now thinking about trying it after the first of the year, thus proving that repeated viewing may be a PITA but it may also maybe quite effective.
