Almost made it through the year without a foster but this one grabbed my heart. Last weekend a black kitty walked up to a guy in my neighborhood with his head stuck in a jar. The guy tried to get it off but before he could help her, the kitty got scared and ran off. For the last 3 days we have been searching the area trying to find her with no luck. Finally last night she was caught and the jar removed. The people in the area where she lived will take her back as an outside cat which is just not gonna happen on my watch so I am going to foster her hoping that someone will adopt her. This is through our small city's animal care services so I will be doing all the promoting to find her a home. Going to pick her up this afternoon.

Kritter - how did you get the jar off - did you need to smash it or just wiggle it off. That is such a scary thought - that a cat could get their head caught in a jar. Poor thing must have been starving wandering around with the jar on. WTH kind of cat owners are these people!
Good luck!

Whatever you do, don't post pictures of the cute little kitty. I do not need another kitty for Trixie to play with. Nope, I don't.
Trixie might disagree with me though.

If it's a male, maybe you could call him jarhead LOL

It was a hard plastic jar that had held catnip. We were able to get the jar off by using baby oil and then tugging.
The cat was free roaming and being fed by several neighbors in the area.
Clean, it is a female from what I hear. Going to pick her up in 1/2 hour.

Came home without her but she is a sweetie. Black kitty with big yellow eyes.
She has some kind of scaly stuff on her ears so picking her up tomorrow morning and taking her to my vet to see what it is before I bring her in the house.

Aww, I love cats. She is just in time for Halloween, like the cookies below your avatar. If I could manage one I would go get her. These two chihuahuas are a handful. I will definitely get another cat one day, but waiting until these two settle down a little, they are very active. Its good because it is forcing me to be more active!
Thank you for helping her Kritter.

When somebody floated the idea that she could go back to the neighborhood where she got herself jarred, I thought "Nope, not going to happen."
She is already spayed but no ear tip so somebody cared enough about her at one time to get her spayed.
Maybe the two chis need Tasha to calm them down.

When you promote her, the jar story definitely needs to be front and centre. Tug on the ol' heart strings.
Are you going to keep her secret til after Halloween, though? To avoid the psychos?

I am only going to promote her on our Nextdoor place because that is where her "Jar" thread was.
There will be a screening process for her and an adoption fee.

Such a lucky kitty to have a champion in you! I've been waiting patiently along with the others here on the forum to see you Kritter, in action with your life saving endeavors for cats, kitties and kittens. Thank you for your love for kitteh's! You do such wonderful work saving lives. This part of the forum is my favorite. So many times I have wanted to post, but held back for whatever reasons in my head, LOL. We love black kitteh's here. WE had a 17 year old we lost last December to kidney disease. Early spring we took in a boy kitteh and he is now about 15 months old. Our household needed a black kitty in our lives!

@antksnut Please do not hesitate to post in this section. It is my favorite part of the board too. So glad you found another black kitty for your household. You are right, everybody should have a black kitty in their life.
Took Shadow to the vet this morning to have her checked out and, thankfully, the ear stuff was not ringworm but a bacterial infection likely a result from her head being in the jar for 5 days.
She is 2 years old and weighs 10 pounds. Got her up to date on all vaccinations and she had already been spayed. Was a purrfect kitteh at the vet's office. Not even bothered when several vets plus a vet tech were in the room and she had her ears scraped for the microscope evaluation. Got an antibiotic injection that should take care of the infection.
Haven't introduced her to the other cats here yet. Right now she is in the bathroom and the hall so she can sniff underneath all the doors until she finds a friend that she wants to meet. She doesn't seem to mind being in the house at all. Maybe she learned a lesson that outdoor life has it's perils.

Glad she didn't have ringworm, and is getting treatment for her bacterial infection. Sounds like she was good girl at the vet! YES! That is always a big plus. She will make a perfect house cat too. Hope she fits in well with your crew during her stay there. Thanks Kritter! Yes we luv us some black kitties here! Our old girl was named Radar on account of her ears were bigger than her head was. She eventually grew into those ears, though she was never a big girl. She weighed a little over 6 pounds full grown, runt of her litter. My hubby and daughter named her that oh those many years ago! I wasn't to have a say in the naming of her, hahaha! Your new foster is named Shadow?!!! Love it! That is the name of our boy here! It's perfect for him. I did have a say in his naming this time though!! YEP!!! We have a Scrappy, a Grey, a Flashie and a Shadow here, the zoo crew! Ha!

Shadow was the name of a military foster that I fostered through the Humane Society several years ago. she was here for almost 7 months before her owner came back from Afghanistan.
I have tried other names but she reminds me so much of shadow that I always go back to that name. My other black cat is Bonnie that came from the shelter where I worked at the time. She kept escaping from the cattery and walking up to the fornt parking lot for some reason. I brought her home and she refused to stay in the house so she is one of the outside cats here.
I posted an update on the Nextdoor Neighborhood site and have seen several posts thanking me for taking her in but nobody expressing an interest in adopting her yet.
I was so relieved that Shadow didn't have ringworm. One of the vets at the office is a specialist in contagious diseases that animals can pass to humans and each other so I wanted her to chime in also on what she thought it was. Shadow got more medical attention today than she has probably had in her lifetime so far.
Shadow seems content to hang out in the bathtub today but she does come out for pets when I go in to see her. No rush, she can take her time. This is a whole new world for her.

kritter has been either too busy or stingy with pictures lately. Still waiting on the photo of the door mat.

No pics yet. Have been pretty busy around here all of a sudden. Lots of things to try and catch up on this week and getting a new foster with a trip to the vet thrown in was not originally one of those things. Shadow did well in her part of the house overnight. No crying or knocking things off the bathroom shelves. I left the door to Gracie's room open this morning so she could expand her territory is she is so inclined. Gracie doesn't like other cats at all and will keep her distance so no threatening gestures to welcome Shadow. Lily and Sabrina are getting cabin fever in the foster bedroom but they can cool their heels for now and get over it.

Might be a slight delay in Shadow pics now. Apparently she ventured into Gracie's room and is hiding most likely under the bed. That's OK. Baby steps. Gracie gave me that eye rollin' WTF look and I didn't even bother to fire back at her that if I didn't have single accommodations in this house then what makes her think that is a given for her.

Hang on, who's Gracie?
And where's Kenya in the accommodations?
I'm giving you big leeway on the new pics cos black is hard to capture. I've looked at elebenty billion cat pics since Bubby disappeared, and the black cats come out the worst. I think you need bright natural light and good luck to get anything better than a black shape with two eyes.

Gracie has been here for several years now. She was a foster from the Human Society who had a skin issue from the chemicals that were used to clean the cages. She is an older cat who had been surrendered, adopted out and then returned.
When her skin issue cleared up, I couldn't send her back to the shelter for the third time especially because of the chance the skin issue would reoccur.
She doesn't like any of the other cats so last spring I put her out in the cat pen by herself. She loved it there but then the mosquitoes stated biting off her nose so I brought her back in and put her in the ebay bedroom with Sabrina who also doesn't like other cats. No problem because they each found their own space plus Sabrina started going back to her tote tower in the foster bedroom with Lily.
Kenya is in my bedroom by herself and so far no yanking out her hair since the last episode.
Shadow stays hidden but I know she is coming out at night because she is using the litter box in the bathroom which she used the first day that she was here.

Kritter you know it is better luck not to have gone through the whole year without another kitty. Any pics of this princess without the jar?

I will get some pics for you, clean. She is coming along fine but does not want to join the Missy Family yet.
She got into Kenya's room this morning and did some exploring with Kenya keeping a watchful eye from the bed.
