Now I can't change my username.
This is getting comical.
Good news: I'm not losing my mind in not finding the delete button. Bad news: I'm being held prisoner in a virtual forum.

Sorry, I went off on Kevin's response. I don't care if it's public or not.

You also cannot delete old posts that you wrote - that ability has been taken away.
I changed my avatar, but I was not able to change my name - you can no longer change your board ID.

Yup, that changed right after dantes changed her ID because I was looking for the delete and I could see where I could change my ID. Kevin is f-ing pathetic...and I'll say that on an open board.

Yikes. I have tried my best to stay out of the board drama, but these new changes are admittedly odd.

Here's the thing. Before I joined the original ebay cab board I had only ever joined one forum. I am still an active member of that forum. NOTHING on that forum is private and you can not opt out or rescind your membership nor chould you change your screen name. Having never been a member of a forum I thought that was normal.
I then joined the cab board and never thought of deleting my account. When that board went to he11 and everyone joined those who shall remain nameless's board I found it interesting that you could actually change your screen name or delete your account.
Now if that's the way it was run. Fine, wonderful. BUT again now that things aren't going the way they should to just be sneaky and rescind all that was given IMHO is dirty and underhanded. Again I personally DGAF but if someone wants to opt out they damm well should be able to as when they joined that was indeed an option.

I checked with forum support here to see what affect closed memberships have on our forum. I mean, afterall, we have had a couple cancel, and according to some, this is supposedly a lesser product than simplemachinesforum. From Proboards Tech Support:
Members deleting their accounts has no negative effect on the backend of your forum. That would indeed be problematic if it did.
As an additional note, preventing users from deleting their accounts on ProBoards is forbidden. A user should be allowed to terminate their membership at any time as per the Terms of Service.
So it appears we won't be collapsing anytime soon. Good to know!

Well that's what I was wondering, why would people deleting their usernames or accounts have an especially negative effect on a forum database, I would imagine it's a common occurrence, so why the concern?

The ONLY effect it will have is to show the board as dead with fewer members. It's a passive/aggressive way for someone to exert their authority. And like I said it's $hitty. Beyond $hitty for a supposed adult to not allow someone who doesn't want to be there to remain. All this fallout and the ONLY person to blame refuses to understand / comprehend/accept accountability for that.

He doesn't want his member numbers to go down. If a board isn't growing, it's not alive. I wasn't going to use that d*ing word. and face the wrath of Jeremy.

And I forgot this which angers me the most. HOW DARE anyone threaten to put FAKE names to accounts. WTF?! So if someone doesn't post in x amount of days the owner of said board can decide to change that persons id?! I just reread that thread and for some reason I missed that the first time. That is beyond BS.

I simply do not see a reason why someone wouldnt be able to delete their account. It happens every day on forum boards everywhere. It bothers me that this decision was made and changes implemented without telling anyone. A user just stumbled upon it. And then, when users complained, he took away the ability to change user names and delete posts? I agree, seems odd.

There is absolutely NO harm from deleting accounts, none whatsoever. There won't be messed up databases unless he installed things incorrectly, which he would never admit to. There is NO programmer of any forum that would leave a problem like that in their programming. Simple Machines is a popular forum script, so to say that deleted accounts messes up the database is him talking bullshit.

It"messes with the database" in the sense that it removes content that he doesn't want removed.

I don't think I've ever seen more than 4-5 people viewing one of the boards at one time since I've joined. There are now 20 viewing this one. Might be a new record
