This was discussed on the other forum. In fact Kritterkats and I were going to become billionaires selling these to cats. That's another story.... Anyway, Flyer has been receiving his monthly barkbox. It varies box to box. One month I got a booyah in it. Here's the latest one. It's honestly not worth the monthly fee, but it's really fun to get them in the mail. Flyer knows that box is for him. haha

I'd love to get a Meow Box every month with kitty goodies in it. And since cats love boxes that would be part of the fun. It would go over big with cat lovers.

I'll talk to Kritter again about it. But we're not going to be over the top with all the cutesy ruff, ruff, sniff you next month, furtastic fun time lingo. They're OD'ing on happy pills over there.
We're doing the cat thing. That means: You'll get it when you get it. And if you don't like it...well, my tails in the air and I'm not worried. But, if you can slip me the down payment on that plane I'm looking to buy, then I may consider expediting your order. Don't hold your breath. I said I may.....

Seriously - it would be a good idea. I should google and see if it's already being done. Move over...might be more competition heading their way.

LOLOL Yes, we are definitely doing the cat thing with these boxes. I think we ought to put that phrase on our website starting with the "You'll get it when you get it" part. It will definitely set us apart from the competition. Dantes, I think we need to get on this. We could do soooo much better that they do. Seriously, that is a pitiful Bark Box.

I think I'm going to switch to another monthly dog club. It's sad to get excited about pitiful. ha
I already have a travel water dish, and the toy flat out stinks.
Flyer likes the treats. We had an ongoing war over him wanting to eat that salmon cigar on my bed. My position: This isn't going to happen. Flyer: Make me not do it.

I've been curios to try Barkbox but was afraid it wouldn't be worth it. My pup goes through toys so quickly. Dante is that a Border Collie? Beautiful blue merle coloring! I have a 8year old BC. He's my joy! Though often life with him is very much like living with a toddler on speed.

Dantes, how much is the monthly fee for the Bark Box?
We need to be know how much peeps are willing to pay for these boxes.
Of course, ours will be better and worth massive amounts of money but we need to stay in a price range ballpark.
Seriously, even Flyer knows that is a pitiful Bark Box.

I think I'm paying $25 or $30. I'll have to go check. I did read reviews about boxes and there's another place that's suppose to be better. I'm going to take time to check it out. I actually started looking at wholesale toys, treats, etc... and tried calculating out how much it cost to put a box together with shipping. Plus all the advertisement. It seems like a few places have already gone out of business. Maybe poor planning. And you know what - a suprise in the box for the owner would be fun. Like a little car magnet or socks. Socks always seem to be a hit with the crazy cat ladies. Yes - he's a border collie. A border collie that's about 5-7 pounds overweight because my husband insists he needs a bite of his food all the time. I completely get the toddler on speed analogy. Ha - add some neurotic in and that's my Flyer. He's been in agility training, but I'm taking him out for a while until he loses the weight. I have to take him to a dog chiropractor for a small spot on his back. The trainer recommended it. Said it's an easy fix. He's not in pain or anything.

Dantes, you send me $25 or $30 a month and I will send you a Bark Box that Flyer will never forget. Each month will be better, I guarantee.
I buy all the leftover cat Christmas stockings at Walmart for 75% off (about $2.50 apiece) and there are a least 20 toys in each one.
I have been breaking them down into small goody bags that the Humane Society gives out with each cat adoption but I could easily redirect them into Cool Cat boxes.

What a great idea. I am stealing it and will do the same thing for the shelter.

That is a good idea.
I donate to Every Creature Counts, which is a low cost spade - neuter clinic. I have them take care of all the ferals I come across. I trap, fix, get them shots, and send them on their way after a day or two in my shed. I wait until they're through with pain meds so they don't become coyote chow. I find it strange that pain medication is an option with fixing a cat.

This is a cool idea.
The owner gift.
Doesn't have to be socks, but if it is, I suggest thin socks that work for sleeping. Too thick you get hot and take them off during the night. Your cat (or dog) finds one and hides it. Then you're stuck with one sock.

This would be so fun, I love gathering cool things and making care packages for kids, adults or pets Maybe getting your hands on pet food/treat samples in bulk would be good too.

I like the idea of a meow box. The stores don't have squat for cats. It's discrimination.

I know, Val, the cat toy selection is stores is really lame.
The only good toys that I find are in the Walmart Christmas stockings. I guess they hoard all the toys so they can fill the stockings.

I cancelled the "pitiful" barkbox. Just signed up with pet gift box. It's only 17.99 and they get really good reviews. I don't know how some of these places are making any money.

I find it strange that pain medication is an option with fixing a cat.
Cat's can't tolerate some of the pain meds, others have to be monitored and used for short term only because they can cause liver and other organ damage. Cats react differently than dogs.
My cat was freaked out for 3 days after his anesthesia for his dental work.

The majority of the vets that I have worked with here in the spay/neuter arena give the female cats an injection of pain meds after the surgery prior to release. The spay is much more intrusive than a neuter and therefore, the possibility of more pain for the cat.
Nobody goes home with pain meds for aftercare. Nobody goes home until they are awake and recovering. Surgery in the morning, go home in the afternoon.
Protocol for feral spay/neuter here is to release the males after 8 hours and the females after 24 hours. That allowance is to make sure the anesthesia is out of their system and they are alert.
Neuter surgery takes minutes so less anesthesia is needed and the males recover quicker. Spays take longer to complete so the females are out longer.
That all being said, I am referring to spay/neuter clinics and shelter vet practices who need to deal more in volume than running the bill up with all kinds of tests and other money making charges.

That makes sense about the pains meds - cats being allergic or bad reaction.
Our clinic charges an extra $5, which I pay. The ferals get an injection before they leave and I take home a liquid for the next two days. I don't know how much the pain meds affect their judgment, so that's why I keep them in my shed for a few days. I let them out of the carrier and then keep a blanket, food, water for them in there. Once they turn back into the hissy piss and vinegar cats, I leave the shed door open.

I try to keep the ferals, in my little corner of the world, healthy. I like having them out there as mousers. They have a hard life. So extra food and shelter in the Winter is provided. I also like the challenge of trying to become friends with them.

Everytime I see your dog picture in the first post, it looks like he (she?) is thinking, "I waited all month for this to get here, and THIS is all I get? Geez what a ripoff!"

Received the new one I subscribed to. It's called Pet Box. It's $17.99 a month and not sure if I'm going to stick with it or not. When I brought the box inside, Flyer was all over it. He knows it's HIS box.

The treats and dental chews are good. I also like the sooth stick for when he gets stickers in his paws. I don't care for the toys. He had the stuffing from the basketball all over the house within an hour. I never buy stuffed toys for that reason. I like the rubber ones that don't wear down his teeth.
It's hard to complain because of the price. I may try out a few more boxes to find the right balance.

Thanks. I love his eyes, too. He gets that crazed Border Collie look when he's excited or training. These dogs are so intense.

I came in here just to say that I used to go mountainbiking with a border collie named Fuzz. There were more than a few times when he led us out of the mountains when darkness fell too soon and we'd got turned around on the path. We'd follow Fuzz's white tail and tell him to go back to the car, and he would trot along ahead of us until we knew where we were and then we'd all go together. Every time he saw a bike come out of his human's garage, he would get all excited and start jumping around. He was the coolest dog!
A meow box sounds good, save that our cats only like balls and string. Our relations get them fancy toys and they just put a paw on them and look at them. Then throw a plastic bottle cap across the floor and they go completely crazy batting it around.
So, our cats have beer and bean tastes rather than champagne and lobster. A box of discarded bottle caps and some left over ham would probably send them over the moon.

Border Collies are wicked smart. Flyer knows what we're doing by how I dress. If I grab my purse ( crossbody) and put it on, then he waits to see if he gets to go on the bye bye. Not patiently. ha
If I'm shoving keys in my pocket and grabbing water, then he goes for the leash.
My cats play cap hockey, too. Drives me nuts. Last night I almost booted all three of them out. They were playing mouse hockey with a live mouse. Me yelling, "Are you kidding me?" did nothing to deter them. I finally grabbed a plastic cup and caught the damn thing and threw it outside.
