Sweet Jesus -- I either hadn't heard or forgotten about the increase and had the shock of my life when I ran my first label a few minutes ago!

SO--I've had this rate increase in the WAY back of my mind all week. But I chose to ignore it. I simply didn't want to update 150+ listings. Knowing I should have.
I just printed 17 labels for packages to go out tomorrow (Sat, Sun and this mornings sales). WOWZA!
I charge a flat rate shipping fee. Before the rate increase, I would charge anywhere between $.10 and $2 handling fee. Today? Well, let's just say I know what I'm doing here in a bit! It was ugly, but could have been much worse.
For me, I have a basic store. Oct 13.88% Nov 11.69% Dec Well, this is skewed because I participated in the 50% off FVF promotion and my eBay/Paypal fees were -$112.72 because I got somewhere around a $400 credit for that promotion.
ETA: I'm a TRS (no plus)

Anyone here also sell on Amazon and/or Etsy? How do the eBay rates compare to Amazon & Etsy?

I use mostly PFRE. I charged $5.95 to the buy so the discount would cover the FVF's on shipping. Now to reclaim that I would have to charge $6.49. Still less than the $6.80 rate, but this is going to be a shock for buyers!

This is why I don't use stealth shipping. I want the buyers to see what USPS charges.

Good thing the stupid shipping DSRs won't count next month. There wouldn't be a seller left on the site after this price hike.

Here is the PDF with all the new pricing. Not much difference between Commercial Plus and Commercial Base on the Priority Mail. Anyone on the coast (like me) sending to the opposite coast is going to have to adjust their Priority Mail pricing. Over 1-lb, like a lot of sweaters, will be 14.50 - 14.95 to send it to zone 9. I hope that ebay will give us something off these rates, or are the published commercial PLUS rates on this brochure the only discount we get if we are TRS?
This is so confusing. We need to set-up our correct shipping prices to operate, so why can't ebay post exactly What is What and post it for us sellers as a guideline? Every board has different information. Typical secretive manipulative ebay!

I think it's obvious ebay is keeping the postage discount on first class and lying about it. If you print labels through Ebay, you get the commercial base rate which is discounted off of the retail rate. If you are a TRS, you used to get the even cheaper commercial plus rate. However, USPS has eliminated the com. plus rate for 1st class packages altogether. There's nothing for ebay to keep in this case.

Okay, here's my info on the postage increase. I have sold a few things and while I haven't yet printed the labels, I did use the shipping page to check the postage on each weight amount. I'm TRS, so I have indicated where there is a discount.
Oz - Retail - eBay
1-3 - $2.60 - $2.60 I also went to the USPS web site and found that their 1-3 ounce rate is $2.54 - 6 cents LESS than eBay's rate. Reason???
I just discovered this last night; here's the reason. The Retail rate for 1-3 oz is actually $2.54. The USPS commercial base discounted rate (i.e. the "Ebay discount" or "online discount") is $2.60. That isn't Ebay, that's USPS. I have no idea how or why they came up with a negative discount, but there it is. It's six cents cheaper to buy the postage at the post office. The USPS no longer offers the online discount if you print from USPS.com; you have to print labels from ebay, stamps, paypal etc to access that rate. Also, USPS eliminated commercial plus rates for First Class, so whether you are TRS or not, you pay the same rate through ebay labels.

I'm a Top Rated Plus and the rates that show for me are in my post a few back. Looks like there is no difference between TRS and TRS+ shipping rates now. For First Class, that it true. For Priority mail, there's still a, now small, difference.

I'm a Top Rated Plus and the rates that show for me are in my post a few back. Looks like there is no difference between TRS and TRS+ shipping rates now. TRS and TRS+ got the same rates before when shipping via eBay Shipping. I was sort of hoping for better rates for TRS+. Dumb of eBay not to do that, this time. I suspect more sellers may decide the hoops aren't worth jumping thru. Val, TRS is a thing a seller is. TRS+ is a thing listings by TRS sellers that meet certain criteria (14 day returns, 1 day handling) are. TRS+ listings are eligible for the 20% FVF fee discount. If you are a TRS and you create a listing that doesn't meet those criteria, it's not a TRS+ listing so you don't get the badge on that listing nor the discount. There's no such thing as a TRS+ seller. Hope that makes sense.

And where are y'all getting the 10% eBay fee from? Mine is 9% FVF for sellers without a store are 10% across the board. For sellers with a store they are 4%-9% depending on the category. Most categories are 9%, one or two are 4% and there are a few in between.

Exactly how I figure things. Twice over the past month, I was able to save my buyer's $4+ by improving my folding technique on sweaters. They were grateful for the refunded $avings. Friday I took a slight hit on a sweater that was calculated at 2-lbs, and it went over by .2 oz. Too bulky for a PFRE, so I lost some money after bumping the weight class. And that was one time I made sure I took stealth mode off the label! Shipping was almost the same as BO I took on the sweater...but I was happy to be rid of it. Check out these vacuum bags from bubble fast. They are pricey (around $3 ea.), but if you sell a lot of sweaters or other bulky items, you may be able to save more than they cost, maybe... www.bubblefast.com/store/pc/Space-Saving-Vacuum-Bags-c259.htm#.Vp7yufkrKUk

Sorry, the discount I was referring to was the discount on postage shipped via eBay Shippng.
Prior to the USPS increase this week, TRS and the top 2 tier PS were all getting the commerical base plus shipping rates. Since the discount wasn't as good after the rate hike, I was hoping it was only because I was TRS, and maybe TRS+ [listings] WERE getting a better shipping discount. But alas, no. Either eBay doesn't have enough shippers using eBay Shipping to get the discounts that Amazon negotiated, or eBay did get those discounts but is keeping the extra discount for their own profit.
I was very surprised to see what Amazon negotiated, compared to what we're getting on eBay.
When a seller's listings qualify for the TRS+, they have a badge showing TRS+. A seller who is a TRS but doesn't offer the perks to get the + is still a TRS on their dashboard, but that TRS is not shown to the buyer (which sucks). That's why you'll see some of us separating out TRS from TRS+.

I'd be curious to see what % other sellers get from their total fees and sales numbers, to see if I'm average or not.
Anyone care to share? Excluding paypal's fees which are 2.9% ( plus $0.30 per transaction but that's negligible for the average price item I sell) My sales were much higher in 2014 and included a large amount of items that have a FVF of 4% based on the category with a store subscription. I think I got TRS maybe in Dec '14, maybe not till Feb '15, can't remember, so I started getting 20% of my non-shipping FVFs. 2015
dec 7.53 aug-nov ~14 (very low sales, so monthly store fees were large percentage comparatively) july 11.17 jun 10.91 may 11.12 apr 9.65 mar 8.48 feb 8.13 jan 9.28 2014
dec 7.92 nov 6.46 oct 5.91 sep 7.73 aug 5.54 jul 5.51

Anyone here also sell on Amazon and/or Etsy? How do the eBay rates compare to Amazon & Etsy? For Amazon, eBay's rates are lower in general. I think books and media on Amazon are 15%. For some categories, Amazon might be lower; can't remember all of them.

If you saw the prices they get from UPS, you would be absolutely SHOCKED.

I wonder if a lot of sellers DON'T use ebay labels? Maybe that's what hurt us with the prices? Because Amazon's Priority Mail prices are awewsome. They're lower than what eBay was giving on Commerical Base Plus BEFORE the price hike

Val I have bought a lot over the last 60 days and probably a third of the labels on packages were hand written and show postage from the PO.
It really surprised me cause several of them lost money on the shipping. Most were small sellers but there were a few bigger ones that should know better by now.

THat would explain it then. If not enough sellers used eBay shipping this past year, eBay wouldn't have the numbers to show to negotiate better rates. Darned stupid and/or new sellers

Most seemed to be closet cleaner type sellers. Makes me wonder if they don't have a printer and just assume that they will get the same rates at the PO as on ebay.
I swear that any new seller should have to take a tutorial and pass a quiz before they can list.

Now that I think about it, most of the items I bought for Christmas gifts came with PO postage on them and yes they way over paid for shipping. Especially on the books I bought for DD. Those poor book sellers, if only they knew about regional rate boxes (the prices they were then), they could have saved a fortune on shipping. All of them took great care in packaging though, gotta give them props for that. I was really impressed with how nicely all of her hardbacks arrived. Of course now she wants more and more and more LOL

Anyone who uses the USPS site Click N Ship for personal use might want to consider using Paypal Ship Now instead. I use the Click n Ship quite a bit for package returns, constantly sending flat rate Priority Mail Envelope to my sister down south, and all personal package mailings.
The rate has gone up quite a bit as it's no longer the Commercial Rate but the Retail Rate. I just did a Priority Mail Flat Rate envelope and it cost $6.45 as opposed to the $5.75 that I was paying last year. I have all my addresses stored in there, very convenient, but that option cannot be used with Paypal Ship Now.
I have one of the Free stamps.com ebay accounts but it can't be used for personal packages. Does anyone know of any other shipping company that offers any of the discount shipping rates without joining and paying a monthly fee besides Paypal?
Thanks!

Might want to check out ShippingEasy - the service is FREE for <50 monthly shipments. I haven't used it; merely bookmarked it for future reference when rate increases were announced. They also offer a free trial for all of their paid plans, and have downloadable rate guides.

I mail LOTS of packages that weight under 6 oz, this increase is killing me. I'm just as upset about it today as I was the first day of the increase. It's $2.60, isn't that a .40-.50 cent increase? Ridiculous

Ina's article on how Amazon negotiated for their sellers and were able to keep the 2015 rates for Priority Mail. So no increase at all for Amazon Sellers - wish Ebay had the same bargaining power as Amazon. The article also says that Stamps.com has lower rates than Amazon on First Class mail. I am wondering if the rates are lower than ebay. www.ecommercebytes.com/cab/abn/y16/m01/i19/s01

Ridiculous 99.9% of what I sell is <3 oz. I was charging $2.00 and recently upped things to $2.25. Now, I have to up things again to $2.75 to cover everything...

I guess we'll all adapt, I still get majorly peeved every time I pay $2.60 for a tiny package under 6oz, wonder how long it'll take to get over the shock of it all. 10 years and I've never cared *that* much about a rate hike until now
