Doesn't bother me...their stuff is waaaaay overpriced, IMO. Years ago I did a taste test with Blue Bell and Blue Bunny...the latter won. I much prefer Edy's or Moose Tracks from Aldi. But with summer approaching, I've sworn off ice cream...I need to get into last summer's shorts.

So sorry Val! I don't eat ice cream because I have some VERY sensitive dental work that hates extreme cold. I see stars when cold touches one of my teeth.

We have UDF (United Dairy Farmers) and Graeter's here so I've never even heard of/tried Blue Bell. Before I lost my taste for chocolate, UDF's Homemade Brand Dutch Chocolate Almond or their regular Swiss Chocolate Almond was all I ever ate. When I lived with my sister for a year, the nearest store was an hour away. When I moved back to Cinti, my first apartment had a UDF across the street, and the first time I went in, they had a special 3/$11, I think, so of course I bought 3. That's all I had in my freezer for a couple of days!

Damn, HEB just got Blue Bell back on the shelves after the last recall. I don't wear shorts anymore so I am an ice cream lover in the summer. HEB had a closeout plus coupon on the York Peppermint Pattys and I couldn't resist them. I have one every evening as a reward for getting through another day with all these freaking cats.

I love Blue Bell. It can be pricey, but it has the best flavors and the vanilla base is the creamiest of all the brands I have tried. Albertsons had a special a couple of weeks ago and it was $3.99 so I got 3. It's my evening reward/treat just like Kritter's. Looks like cats have driven us to ice cream. Hey, it's a good excuse to indulge.

Is yours part of the recall, Shirley? If it was stocked after the last recall, it might be.

What I got was just before the last recall and I did check but it's OK.
So I am going to have to ration it until it becomes available again.
I do eat Blue Bunny too, and it's a good ice cream. But they don't have the super flavors like Blue Bell.

They have the best Rocky Road, too. Real mini marshmallows, not that mallow cream stuff. Ick.

Somany-how did you lose your taste for chocolate? That would really help with my never-ending diets....

Losing a taste for chocolate would not help me.
There are many other flavors that could jump right in and fill the void.
All the Blue Bell was gone again from HEB this afternoon.

Rocky Road has to have real marshmallows, whoever came up with putting a swirl of mellow fluff in and calling it Rocky Road should be shot.

Somany-how did you lose your taste for chocolate? That would really help with my never-ending diets.... I want to know this too. I swear I am carrying at least 20 lbs of pure milk chocolate. Of course, it's probably one of those things like my Aunt - she lost her taste for sweets due to meds.

The chemo butt-shots that I have been on for over 4 years have made me unable to tolerate any artificial flavorings....they taste like kerosene.
But my love for chocolate remains....

I found one way to lose a chocolate craving is to check out a sale bin with Easter candy markdowns posted at 25 cents & see nothing but packages of religious themed boxes with milk chocolate "praying hands" Just no...
I can chomp the ears off a chocolate bunny ok but just couldn't envision biting into the praying hands..

Not all, but many artificial flavorings have always tasted like chemicals to me. I can't stand the flavored drinks from Starbucks because to me they taste like kerosene. PS: I can eat chocolate praying hands, no problem as long as they are good chocolate and not that funky waxy stuff that passes for chocolate sometimes.

I can remember when I lived in LA and would travel a lot for business. This was the late 80's and Blue Bell wasn't carried on the West Coast (don't know if it is now or not)
I always tried to get a flight to the East Coast with short layover in Dallas so I could jump off the plane and sprint to the Blue Bell kiosk. So yummy!
I'm not as much of a fan now. If I'm going to indulge in ice cream, which is my weight loss kryptonite, then I would prefer Breyers or Haagen Daz. They used to have a flavor called Honey Vanilla that just made me swoon.

I've been dying for some heavenly Yarnell's coffee ice cream. Been years since I had it though, because they pulled up lock, stock & barrel from my location. Now, it's almost impossible to get that flavor under any brand. Breyer's coffee flavor is practically tasteless. Grrrrrrrrrrr

Where have I been?? LOL... I have not been tracking all the news. I just ate my last bit of Blue Bell French Vanilla Ice Cream and tried to buy more at the store last night. I went into shock when I discovered all of it was recalled.
I am trying to gain weight and add several scoops of french vanilla ice cream to my coffee in the AM. Sometimes I will have 2 cups of coffee loaded with ice cream. And I get the Blue Bell Rocky Road for my protein drinks... adding several scoops to some milk with the protein powder and blend with a mixing wand. And lately I have been adding an egg yolk too. So not sure what to do about not having the Rocky Road available...
I ate Dryer Ice Cream in California for years. And the Dryer product on the East Coast is called Edy Ice Cream. I ate Edy Ice Cream for years and then all of a sudden they changed the formula to cheap ingredients and took the CREAM out of the ice cream. It was like watered down dairy with no flavor. Plus the container got smaller and smaller.
So I did taste tests on several brands and switched to Blue Bell. I always check the FAT content on the ice cream as anything under 9 grams is yucky tasting "almost" ice cream with a watered down flavor.
So last night I bought Publix brand French Vanilla ice cream. It tasted pretty good and is on sale ending today. (2 for $7.00) So I will go back and get more. Maybe I will try their Rocky Road...
I saw some expensive premium vanilla ice cream at Sams but it was not "French" vanilla. All the other premium ice cream comes in small containers and will be too costly for daily use. So I guess I will be using Publix brand of French Vanilla with my coffee...

All I like is plain vanilla ice cream, excluding vanilla bean. I put it in the microwave for 30 seconds or so to soften it, then "churn" it with my spoon until it's soft and creamy. I can't stand any flavored ice cream anymore, so I buy the vanilla that's on sale - so boring!

DH has absolutely no will power when it comes to sweets, so I have to be the food police and ration his desserts. Every so often, I will buy a DQ blizzard and portion it out into ½ cup containers, then hide them behind the frozen broccoli. A carton of ice cream would not last very long in this house.

I couldn't get a DQ Blizzard home to portion it out into single servings. It is already in a single serving for me. You are a strong woman-I bow to your self control.

I only have one serving of Blue Bell Sea Salt Caramel left. Hope they will be back selling soon, for now I will have to switch to Blue Bunny, which is good, but just not my favorite.

LOL...if my SO wasn't an only child, I'd swear he had a twin! Mine has been throwing temper tantrums for 20+ yrs because I don't like to bake sweets. Plus, he can blow through a 3L carton of ice cream in 3 or 4 days. But he learned a hard lesson a few months back. His go-to gas station/convenience store sells self-serve frozen yogurt by the ounce...so he got their 'large' container and filled it up. SHOCK...over $6! Lesson learned.

Blue Bell still not back on the shelves at HEB yesterday either.
This is not only a blow to their bottom line but also a blow to their market share.

Its back! Blue Bell is starting to appear at HEB again.
Of course, it comes back 2 days after I started Weight Watchers.
