Happy First Day of Spring, everyone! Still chilly around here but at least we're heading in the right direction (I hope). Fingers crossed spring has finally sprung!

I jinxed myself. The ceiling critter was back last night. Critter remover guy was here a little while ago looking up at the building. Again. Like he always does. I'm not impressed.

Sounds like he needs to do more than look up and actually get up a ladder for a better look. Probably needs to look all around the building and set more traps before the problem escalates (which I really hope doesn't happen).

Next door neighbors are really annoyed. One of the access holes is on their partio and the critter guy put one of the one way traps right there. Right now, they can't use the patio and they're hoping it's gone by the time patio season comes around, since they have a pool view. I have a squirrel view What's funny when the critter is up the ceiling is the cats. They immediately get up and gather on the floor (all 3 of them) where the noise is, and track it while looking up at the ceiling. It's amusing to watch. Sorry, no video, not enough light. I can tell when it's the critter vs the usual upstairs noise, since the cats are all used to the regular noises and don't even blink. Shoot, they don't even get off the couch when upstairs drops something, they just look up for a second and go back to what they were doing. But when it's the critter...it's safari time

Difficult night and morning. Have to go home at 11:45 and walk my one Lab who is having a dental tomorrow. Get up at 6. Walk him and take him to the vet. Hubby will pick him up later in the day.
He is a poop hound and can’t eat after 6 tonight so we have to walk him.

Critter is still squatting in the ceiling. (Well, more accurately, walking.) I need to hire Kritter's inspector since the critter control company my apartment uses is pretty much useless. It appears Kritter's blind inspector can do a better job than this critter removal company. I wonder if they've been sued for false advertising? I just emailed the office. If it's back tomorrow night, I wonder if the office would get the message if my email tomorrow said, "Lather. Rinse. Repeat. Repeat again. Still repeating."?

Joker is home. Hubby picked him up (I am working). 3 extractions. One biopsy - hoping it is an epilus. His “uncle” has one. Less than $700 which made me happy. I am going to submit the insurance claim tonight. Figure I might get a few bucks back. $250 deductible. They cover the extractions and biopsy but not the cleaning.

Fingers crossed you get good news on Joker, labby.
The critter is STILL in the damn ceiling. I've been emailing the office daily, tonight I turned in another maintenance request so there is a record. If I have to file daily requests, I will. This is getting ridiculous. The same (inept, clueless) critter guy was back out today. Walking along looking up at the wall. It's the first floor - WTH don't they get a ladder and do a proper inspection? Arrggghh.

Sounds like our management. For as much as they rake in, they hire the cheapest contractors who do the cheapest work and haven't figured out it winds up costing more down the line.
I sympathize with you. We've been dealing with tree rats over 13 YEARS still invading our balcony, though not as frequently since management finally got a company to cut back the branches of the large oak tree outside our building the branches were right up to the building to give them easy access.

I don't blame management. Most of the contractors they've hired that have done work in both of my apartments were good. The one who fixed the plumbing in the masterbath (and had to remove a big portion of the tile) was awesome. He cut the grout on the tile, took it out in one big piece, and taped it back so it would hold until the apt maintenance could just grout/caulk it back in place. Looking at it now, you'd never know how much he had to remove. The apt maintenance guys are great too. It's just this supposed critter removal company that seems totally useless. I did discover something this morning though. What I thought was upstairs walking around at night - REALLY loud "joint" creaking like a loose stair - isn't them at all. It's the critter. Upstairs has been moving around all morning and I happened to be in the same room but below her. She took the birds out on the patio, walked between rooms a bit, and vaccumed (wonder if I can hire her to do mine?) and all I hear are muffled footsteps and the muffled vac. No creaking of anything. Now I'm wondering what kind of damage the stupid critter is doing to my ceiling Guess I better stop goofing off and go file sales tax returns for my clients. Lots of cool planters coming in from Amazon today. It will be like Christmas!

I went by the apt office to pickup a package delivery and talked to the asst mgr about the critters. Melissa (asst mgr) said a unit at the other end of my building also reported critters last night. They're on the second floor though, with attic access. Either there are a lot of critters up there or what is there likes to wander. She also said they used to use another company but had this one come out for bldg 12. They got the critters out of that bldg, so the mgr called them for this building. I suppose batting 500 isn't tooo bad.

If another unit has attic access, have they checked to see if there's anything up there taking up residence and set traps or let the critter guys do it? As Barney Fife says:

Supposedly the critter removal company is covering holes and putting in traps. Critters must be outsmarting the traps though. Heard it again last night, and I emailed the office. I'm probably being a pain about it, but heck - how are they supposed to know if the critters are gone if we don't report in? I'm glad it's not just me though.

Have you heard if they've caught anything yet? If it's mice or rats, a regular trap with piece of hard salami is pretty much a kill within an hour. Probably works on squirrels, too, with a rat trap. At least you'd know what you're dealing with.

I just had these two 13th/14th century breviary pages framed and thought they came out well. I have them so the work can be flipped over and you can see the back side of the pages, and as if they're floating in air. My wall isn't quite so aggressively green - for someone who does product photography for part of her living, I couldn't get a very good shot of this. They still have a large 1415 music scroll which is 'relaxing' in one of their envelopes and which they're going to frame the same way. This is a big deal to me as I collect old paper, and these two pieces are my oldest. Kind of a very early birthday present! Hope Joker is feeling better!

Are the pages between 2 pieces of glass, Chap? It's cool looking. There's a guy outside my living room window on a ladder, putting up metal flashing right over the spot where I hear the critter the most often. Guess the office finally got someone out who climbed up a ladder and inspected instead of just walking around on the ground looking up. Hopefully this will take care of things and the critters will move along to another building. Kitty jealousy is a handy thing. Thanks to Twila and Simon not liking it when Trixie gets extra attention, they all now come into the kitchen in the mornings to let me brush them. Who says you can't train cats? You just need to figure out what motivates them

And there they go with the ladder to another part of the building. Yay!
UPDATE: I hear pounding elsewhere in the building. Guess they found another entryway.

Hello, hope everyone is doing ok. Prayers for your pup Labby!
Spring sprung here in February lol. It was cooler last weekend but warmed up quickly. Once April arrives we are lucky for any cool air we can get.
Well my sister has had Covid this week. This is her actual first time, surprised she's made it this long. She had it much worse than myself. More like the flu with a fever, cough, aches, headache, etc. And she is fully vaxxed and boosted. She's just glad she didn't have any breathing issues, but missing a week of work sucks. And we didn't get to see mom but called and let her know what was going on.
Unfortunately DS and DIL are separating and due to their financial circumstances he will be staying with us for a few months starting at the end of next month. Frustrating because they mismanaged their money and I have a very small (1,200 sq ft) house. But he has some mental health issues and I don't want to be too harsh, but it's frustrating. And with my ebay inventory I have been doing a bunch of rearranging and still have quite a bit to do. Sigh.
On a nice note DD and hubby in Portland are going to the UK on vacation for two weeks. She has tickets to Warner Bros London Harry Potter tour and is super excited.

Are the pages between 2 pieces of glass, Chap? It's cool looking. Yes, they're between two pieces of museum conservation plexiglass, so they're protected from UV, etc. I can flip the piece over to see the back, though the side showing is the primary side with the gold leaf. They affixed the two pages very cleverly with invisible hinges on the back that don't affect the old vellum and aren't really visible, but position the pages. The place I'm using is not cheap, but they do a really good job. The framer was really delighted when I brought in my old paper, bringing out four soft little leather weights and slipping them onto the corners of my large vellum scroll to inspect it, and delicately handling the little breviary pages, even though they're pretty tough for being 800 years old! They left my scroll resting with the weights on it to start smoothing it out. The whole process was very interesting to me. The shop is this neatly restored 40s clapboard little building along Hwy 99 amongst a lot of oddball old no-tell motels and various funky businesses (you can get anything along Hwy 99 - seriously lol). One wouldn't believe they have these magical workshops inside with loads of art being framed and restored. I'd love to have a tour but they're busy. One man who works there collects saints relics. They're mostly a young crowd working there.

It's supposed to snow tomorrow - so much for my fast packing plans (where I run has a bunch of steep wooden staircases which are notoriously slippery when icy). It was really dark all day today - almost twilight at 4:00 pm. The DH snuck out on a long lunch hour to get a quick bike ride in before the rain started pounding down again. Our snow pack in the mountains is really big which is making us all happy!
Hope Joker is still OK and your critters finally get trapped, Val!
