Good morning, everyone! Wowza, another month here and going, going, gone. For me, the faster the winter months go, the better. Other than being cold, weather was good and traffic light to the casino and back home. Locals bar a few miles from the casino was awesome as always. Neither of us won at the casino, but free room promo and playing video poker made a $20 last for hours. The place was a lot busier than last time. They had a large section blocked off and removed the roulette tables and slot machines, including my favorite one. It ate my money too fast last couple times so no loss to me, lol. Got coating of snow overnight that should be gone the next couple/few days and should be seeing sun again later this week.

Cold and wet here, with slight chance of ice this evening. Very slight LOL. I'm getting really pissed with Amazon. This time I ordered an area rug, says shipped by Amazon. Amazon shipped it USPS. The USPS package delivery person for this route refuses to bring packages to the apartment door and drops them off at the office. I get to go by the apartment office and lug the damn thing back to the apartment. Good thing it's a 4'x5' and not something really huge like a 8'x10' AMZ is shipping more and more by USPS, and you don't know it until it ships. Think I'll start buying from other retailers if they have it. It's not like it will be any more expensive from another retailer. Guess I better go back to work and finish my boring project (that is resulting in lots of billable time so I can't complain too much)

Sorry about the rug, Val. At least you didn't have to lug it up a flight of stairs.

I forgot it was a machine washable rug, which meant it was lighter than the one it's replacing. Whew. Cold and wet here for the next couple of days. Temps in the low to mid 30s, both day and night temps. Email from apartment office: "Freezing temps! Drip your water! Leave the heat on!" (duh on that last one). Then from Spectrum: W're working hard to insure you don't lose internet during the cold weather!" (You can lose internet in the cold? Who knew?) And my favorite, from CPS Energy: "We're working to make sure you don't lose power! We have extra crews on hand! Things should be OK! Well, unless it's windy. Or icy. Or both. Then all bets are off." The kitties have been coming in the office and pestering me the past 15 minutes so I guess it's time for me to get off the computer and go watch TV so we can all snuggle on the couch. I know it's not food, water or litterbox issues since all that was taken care of earlier today.

I love how the dry cleaning guy doesn't mention that most dry cleaning fluid is toxic. Perchloroethylene is the main chemical used. Yeah, it's a form of hydrocarbon, but it's not safe. Too bad that reporter didn't do a story on green dry cleaning.

Cold and wet here today. And tomorrow. Highs both days in the low 30s. No ice that I know of in my complex, but the overpasses are icy at the huge highway exchange about 5 miles north of me. They had a 10 car pileup there earlier this morning. Most of the ice is about 10-15 miles north of me. Tomorrow morning may be a different story though. We'll see. For now, the kitties and I are all nice and toasty with the space heaters going in the office and living room. The cats were running around like crazy this morning (cold anyone?) but now they're all snoozing in their favorite warm spots. I got all excited yesterday when I learned Google Fiber was being installed in the complex. Then I did some homework. They install a modified version of Fiber, called Fiber Webpass in apartments. Max speed is the same as what I have now with Spectrum, and Spectrum is about $10 cheaper. Guess I'm staying with Spectrum

Except no snow and we are inside with central heating going full on. This is not the time to consider economy measures.

It's currently 19 degrees and feels like 13 with windchill. I went out to a couple stores. Yes, it's cold, but dressed appropriately and the best part is the sun is shining and there's blue sky and that's a huge psychological plus to feeling less miserable. There was what I found out black ice when I went to get in my Cube and glad I had one foot in and wheel to grab when the other foot went out from under me and landed on the seat.
At least y'all in TX will be a lot warmer a lot sooner than we will up here in OH.

Except no snow and we are inside with central heating going full on. This is not the time to consider economy measures. I use the space heaters in the living room and office because I like the heat. My central heat is too dry, the floor stays cold, and it's hard to regulate. So I set it on 69 and use the space heaters. Plus the cats like laying on the shag rug and the sofa, both of which are in the heat flow from the living room space heater. It's radient heat and really nice. And it has a cute fake flame effect. My new power bill just came in and it's about the same as always, so I don't think my little heaters are saving any money but at least they aren't costing me any more either. Apartment office was closed today due to weather, so there must be more ice out there than I've read about so far. . But it's supposed to be colder and wet tonight so who knows what tomorrow morning will be like. Soooooooooo happy I work 100% remote now It could be worse, I could be in Dallas. They've had over 300 wrecks today and tractor trailer trucks are getting stuck on the freeways all over the metro and blocking traffic.

Yes, we will and it can''t come soon enough.
I won't even go out now when it is 35 degrees much less at those temps. We have some intermitten freezing rain going on and lots of city/county government shut down. The initial sign up for my Valentine Simon Says Spay/Neuter Your Cats was supposed to start today but the Humane Society was closed because of the weather. Will probably be closed tomorrow too.
Angie is trying to trap an injured feral cat but he hasn't shown up yet.

We are ok thus far. Had much more rain/snow mixture than they thought. Nothing stuck but hoping it doesn’t ice up for my ride home.
My brother had the 4 degree weather in Utah the other day. We are supposed to be cold Friday and Saturday with lows at 7-11 and highs at 33-27. Then it warms up again.

We're still on the rollercoaster, 29 tomorrow, 39 Thursday, plummeting to 0 for high Friday with windchill and into 40s and 50. Looks like only a couple days of rain and days of sunshine or at least partial sunshine. I'll take it. Usually, February is the coldest, crappiest month of winter.

Its been dropping down into the 20s the last few days, and frozen in the morning, but the sun was out for a day or so. I had to hang around until mid-morning to go running on Sunday because it was in the upper 20s and I could see frost, and because its been so wet for so long, there's moss on the back roads here that gets really slippery, and an even sheen of water that turns to ice. Even still, once it grasped and heaved up to freezing, I went out but could see that puddles still in the shade were frozen, and I almost slipped on some frozen mud. The DH took the bus to work on Monday because it was too icy - he said 20-30 years ago he might have gone ahead and ridden in, but not at this stage of the game. I remember I used to ride in ice and snow off road, and in icy conditions on the road, but not any longer. ::sigh:: something else to lose with age.
We'll be back to our usual slop and 45 degrees in a day or so! Much better than having that blinding yellow thing in the sky glaring off all the wet and making it hard to see. In the winter the sun never gets very high in the sky, so when we have do sun, it's always right at eye level.

If the ground is frozen this Friday I am going to shampoo the carpets upstairs. I can’t stand it anymore but it has been so muddy out. The dogs bring in all the dirt.

So bored with staying inside because of the weather so I am going to take a poke at Shirley U Geste and make her jealous. www.ksat.com/news/local/2023/02/01/h-e-b-ousts-amazon-as-best-grocer-in-us-report-says/SAN ANTONIO – Amazon is no longer the nation’s favorite grocery store — Texas-based H-E-B has ousted the retail giant for the title of the best grocer in the U.S.
Dunhumby released its sixth annual report of top grocers and H-E-B was given top honors, followed by Costco and Amazon at No. 2 and 3 respectively.
H-E-B previously took home second place mentions in 2021 and 2022.
The report states that the top retailers tend to outperform the rest of the market on benefits and costs to consumers.
H-E-B, Costco and Amazon “provide the best combination of customer benefits while minimizing customer costs,” according to Dunhumby.

Sorry to chuckle, but next time you get a taste of "real" winter temps, be thankful it only lasts a day or few. Our winters usually start in November and end in April if we're lucky.
And yes, I hate living up here.

Thanks for the Chewy tip Kritter. Lots of cat litter headed my way, my FedEx guy must hate me for all the heavy packages I get.
Anytime it hits 60 in winter I'm out in the yard for a while. Still a bit 'fresh' but I hate being cooped up inside & the cats love getting some fresh air at the windows & doors.

I can never pass up a Chewy coupon like that one. My FedEx guy definitely hates my house. I don't know who dreads my stop most..Fedex or my Amazon guy.
We will be in the 60s by Saturday and the 70s by Sunday. Counting the hours.

I was supposed to go to court next week for a fatal MC accident from 2 years ago. I just got canceled. So happy. I don’t like to drive my car where it might get banged up. The motorcyclist got ejected from his bike after drag racing. He was hit or hit a car or 2 then ended up in a traffic lane on a highway (at night) and run over by numerous vehicles. I was the first car that stopped without hitting him. Not a thing I want to re-live.

Both Punxsutawney Phil and Buckeye Chuck predict 6 more weeks of winter. Skeptical Stay predicts at least 8 more weeks.
