Good morning, everyone! Reminder, no mail today (which I'll probably have to remind myself several times through the day). We were lucky and only got a few inches of snow late last week and temps are rising again to melt it off. If the weather stayed like this (minus the -24 to -30 blast last month and losing power all day), I wouldn't mind winter as much. Hope everyone has a thankful day.

Hopefully today will be less busy at work than yesterday. It was so crazy. No idea how we made it through it.

The office is closed today so I'm doing admin work - filing docs in our electronic file cabinet, updating my calendar, stuff like that. It's still billable (I'm a contractor so I don't get paid holidays). Partly sunny and 73 today. Tomorrow and Wednesday are the mid to high 70s, then Thursday we finally get back down to seasonal temps. Yay!
Labby, maybe your department needs to stage a mass sick-out.

labbypaws, sorry you had to go through that. Makes me wonder if at least half the calls could have been avoided if the kids took responsibility like having key(s) and handling minor stuff themselves.
Looks like FedEx is delivering today. I received 2 packages that were scheduled for tomorrow. And from the distances shown late last night, I'm thoroughly impressed.
Also looks like latest batch of tree rats are invading our balcony so have to deal with that again. grrrrrr

FedEx and UPS are delivering today. They don't usually take off for holidays except July 4th, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. Plugging away at my boring mindless tasks for the office I got booted out of the VM, apparently our tech guys are installing the 2022 tax software today. So I just went to another item on my To Do list that didn't involve the VM (virtual machine-our remote desktops). I need to figure out how to get into my iTunes account so I can do another download of the CDs I bought. Lost them when the hard drive died. I think dinner is going to be air fryer roasted veggies and either baked salmon or beef roast. HEB had a new prepared veggie option the other day - a mix of sliced/cut veggies for the grill that includes red/green bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, brussels sprouts, asparagus and a seasoning packet. I'll do my own seasoning though, that packet is mostly salt. Ugg. I like it when all I have to do is toss the veggies in a bowl, add olive oil and seasonings, and toss in the air fryer.

Heaven forbid anyone take responsibility these days. That's a big reason why we're in so many messes right now. No one, on any level, seems to want to take responsibility for anything.

The one kid was begging me not to charge him. I don’t do the billing. The guy gets there and unlocks his door and he doesn’t even have his key in the room.
Anyway, we got approved for adoption at the Lab rescue so we are watching for a pup or an adult. I think we want a pup though. Not in any hurry.

Got my sales tax done last night. Once again, they didn't send me the form, so I forgot. But I thought of it just in time & due to the holiday, it's not even late, yay! I hate that I still have to file, even tho' everything is 0 now due to marketplace facilitator laws.

They changed the site so I have to set up an account online. I used to be able to call in to give my 0 total due.

Buy them when you can find them, because you KNOW resellers are going to grab them for resale on Amazon

Upstairs has the birds out on the balcony. It's so funny when they do that. Simon pretty much ignores the sound now, he's figured out wherever it's coming from, it's not anything he can watch so why bother? Twila, though, still hopes for something and runs between the patio window and the front window for about an hour after the birds go out, trying to figure out where the chirping is coming from. She eventually gives up and switches back to squirrel watch or playing with toys in the toy box. It's getting crowded on the sofa now at night during TV time. I usually have Trixie on my left side on one of the fleece throws, Simon in my lap, and now Twila either walking behind me on the sofa, standing on my right side to be petted (she's very affectionate but not a lap kitty), or sometimes bothering Trixie in hopes that Trixie will give up the fleece so she (Twila) can have it. It can get quite amusing, all that jockeying. Mostly sunny and 78 here today. Cold front moves in tomorrow afternoon and we'll be back to normal. That won't make Kritter happy though

Hey guys, hope everyone is doing well. Warm here, close to 80! But storms expected tomorrow then cooler. At least for a bit lol.
Well we got that big cedar tree taken down last week, I sure hate to lose a tree but apparently it was starting to rot inside with two large holes in the stump and a big crack, so it was the right decision. I asked him to recommend a fast growing tree that wouldn't be vulnerable to ball moss and he recommended several, I have ordered a Forest pansy redbud tree, I sure hope it will do well. It's only 3 ft, it will be dormant bare root. Knock on wood I've had success before, I sure hope this will thrive, or we'll be too old to ever get shade from it lol.
We went to see mom yesterday and she was doing well with no chest pains (knock on wood!)
I checked my mail twice yesterday, too, lol. And I had packages to drop off this morning and it was super crowded I hate having to go the day after a postal holiday.

I stopped at Dollar Tree this morning and was surprised by an end cap filled with Peeps from "regular" to Cotton Candy, Sour Watermelon and forget what other flavors I didn't know exist.

52 degrees today! Love it!
Got my taxes done at a new place for only $95. My former place was going to charge $400. No way for that.
This is the first time that they were done while I sat there, so that was interesting.
Val-I don't know how you do it....my taxes were nothing like you work with. But I was still confused.

I don't do personal returns other than my own, a few friends, and to review returns at the office if we end up short-staffed. I do 99% business and trust returns. Different critters. But personal returns aren't that hard in most cases. The software walks you thru it, which is why you got to sit there while someone did your return Finding 1040 preparers is actually pretty easy for us to do most years.

I made sure all of my 2022 transactions were in Quicken. Took a bit but did it while the cleaners were here. Ran my category report and got that done. Now to install TurboTax and get ready for my work forms.
The one pup we were interested in got selected by someone so we have to watch. Hubby is cranky because he doesn’t understand the adoption process. Now that we have done all the steps we can put in for what we are interested in.

Yes, my state, CO, does allow online, but I prefer to do it manually. To do it online I have to have 1 or 2 more new userids & pw's to manage & I don't want that. So, I just printed the form from the website (no userid required) & mail it in.

I really don't get people sometimes. I'm sitting in on a free virtual conference hosted by Intuit. Intuit makes and sells accounting programs (Quickbooks), tax programs, and related advisory add on programs. If they are hosting the event, there will be sessions on what THEIR products do, and how to use them. So yeah, there will be sales pitches.
People are complaining on the chat that the session I just listened to was "just a sales pitch". Duh. Did they not read the course synopsis? Whatever. I read the course description, they covered exactly what they said they would (plus some extra), and I learned about an Intuit product we aren't using that would be a good add-on for us. So I'm happy. I didn't even mind the "sales pitch". Whatever.
Back to the mindless work of uploading files. At least I have an interesting webinar this afternoon (and not a sales pitch, LOL). Mostly sunny and high 70s today.

arghhh! I went into PayPal to send an invoice to someone and there's an invoice from Dawn Allen who tried to take $500 out of my account. But when I clicked on the details, it was no longer accessible. So they caught it and I don't have $500 in there anyway.
I did change my password, but will call them tomorrow. That's scary!
I do have the 2-step check where they have to send a code to my cell to get into my account.

I just talked to PayPal and this scammer has sent out over 100,000 of these invoices. PayPal has shut down the scammer account and is trying to get everything straightened out.

Looks like Amazon is feeling the pinch too: www.cnbc.com/2023/01/18/amazon-discontinues-amazonsmile-charity-donation-program-amid-cost-cuts.htmlAmazon said Wednesday it plans to shut down its charity donation program, in the latest example of the company’s broader cost-cutting efforts.
Through the program, called AmazonSmile, the e-retailer donates a percentage of eligible purchases on the site to the shopper’s chosen charity organization. Amazon said it has donated roughly $500 million to charities since the program launched in 2013.
Amazon has commenced the largest layoffs in its history and instituted a hiring freeze across its corporate workforce. As Jassy has worked to rein in costs, the company paused warehouse expansion and shuttered some experimental projects like its telehealth service and a quirky, video calling device for kids.Amazon is also taking a lot longer to ship items. My last purchase showed as "in stock" and was sold by/shipped by Amazon. Took 10 days. Shipment was orginated from the DFW airport, which makes me think it really wasn't in stock, AMZ knew they had inbound inventory, and decided to show it as in stock anyway and ship later. Same item today can be delivered tomorrow. Several other retailers have gone to the "ships by some insane date in the future" route as well (sometimes as long as 3 months from now) and this is for regular inventory, not special orders. Prime also has fewer free TV shows now, and those are with commercials. Sunny and more normal temp here today - mid to high 60s. Should be a nice day. Off to watch one of my 4 training webinars I have today.

It's a lovely day here too (sorry to be copying you on everything lol). Sunny and 60s, I hung out my laundry. I also made banana bread. Not because it's a nice day but I just wanted to lol.
It's supposed to rain here Saturday, we do need some rain. It looks like my redbud tree should be delivered tomorrow, it would be good to plant it after a good rain. I sure am hoping it will thrive. We lost an awful lot of shade taking down the cedar tree.
Wow, that's scary Denise, did they tell you how she was able to get away with that?
