HEB makes ready meals that you just stick the oven or air fryer to cook, and ta-da! Dinner is ready. Often the veggie is seasoned with some kind of flavored butter -herb, lemon, horseradish, etc. Well, HEB decided to sell the finishing butter in small 3 oz containers. I bought the tuscan herb and just used it on a grilled cheese sandwich. It was quite tasty! I can't wait to use it on some fish. Back to my webinars. Two down, two to go. Along with mindless electronic filing in between. I console myself with the reminder that even mindless tasks are billable time

Jes..the rep said that it has been a nightmare. The scammer was able to send the invoices through email addresses. But they really didn't get into PayPal. That doesn't make sense to me, though.
Ironically, I received a spam email that same day, did not click on it and sent it to spoof@paypal.

Ironically, I received a spam email that same day, did not click on it and sent it to spoof@paypal. Anyone with a PayPal account can send an invoice to any email address. That email address doesn't need to have PayPal, but if they do it will just show as an invoice payment request. It doesn't give anyone access to your account. What she is doing is just like the emails that used to go around about the Prince of Nigeria scam. She is hoping that a percent of a percent just pay it without realizing what it is. Unfortunately, it works. If she sends out 100K invoices for $50 and 0.1% (one-tenth of a percent) fall for it, she just made $5k.

All of these bulk scamming schemes work on having that tiny percentage of a tiny percentage falling for it - it's enough to make it worthwhile. We saw some sun today and will see some tomorrow before the rains return - the roads never dried out, though and the temps have dropped into the 30s, so no telling if we'll end up with black ice. The DH had his brake cable snap as he was turning into our main road. Of course it was wet, and it was his front brake, so when he tried to slow to turn into our little road, he just kept on going. Urk! I'm glad it didn't snap on him going down one of our 8% long grades as he always pushes the speed on those. I'm wondering if the tech sector isn't having one of those course corrections that happens periodically across an industry. It's been hugely bloated for years, dependent on accelerating consumerism by a population who may be turning its back on mindless consumption - and that includes intangibles like services.

Work finally settled down.
Federal tax forms were accepted during the test cycle. So that is good.
Rained hard all evening. Some roads were flooded on my way home. Just had to watch which traffic lane to get in.
Got to be up early to get routine service on my Highlander.

arghhh! I went into PayPal to send an invoice to someone and there's an invoice from Dawn Allen who tried to take $500 out of my account. But when I clicked on the details, it was no longer accessible. So they caught it and I don't have $500 in there anyway. I did change my password, but will call them tomorrow. That's scary! I do have the 2-step check where they have to send a code to my cell to get into my account. Just because someone sends you an invoice for something through PayPal doesn't mean that PayPal automatically pays it. You get a notice of the invoice and then you have to manually authorize it, no? So then, this was just a person who did a mass invoice mailing to see if anyone would just pay her without checking to see if they actually owe her anything. Your account was/is not in jeopardy, or do I not understand?

Ah ha. Amazon IS "preselling" items that are currently out of stock. These would be items sold and shipped by Amazon. I was looking at a spice blend that wasn't going to be delivered until Feb 12-14, thinking "what the heck?" Then I looked at another blend, same brand, that would be delivered this Sunday. Difference is the second blend for Sunday delivery says "in stock". On the first blend, the "in stock" notation is missing.
At least I know what to look for now.

We have a lot of flooding roads - they get broken up from the wet. The Pothole Rangers came by and plugged up some of the potholes but there are huge ones no one has fixed - sometimes someone comes by and plonks a metal plate over them, which drives the two-wheeled traffic, of which there is quite a bit, crazy. The one road I take to the post office and the gym is turning into rubble. My own town always plugs things right away, but Shoreline, which is right next to us, isn't so assiduous and Shoreline is where I do most of my business.
We had some sun today so went to have a bike ride and then go to the thrift, but I'm having problems with my bike and ended up cutting it short. It was cold and I felt like my face was going to freeze. I'm getting soft and need to get out and battle the elements more than just the lazy running I do. At any rate, I ended up at the Starbarks (for an area that pretty much lives on coffee, we don't have many indie coffee shops) and had a coffee and bagel then did OK at the thrift. I did see a very elderly woman and what looked like her son shopping for some long sleeved tops for her, and they were both saying (quietly) how the prices were just too high. And they are - if they lowered them even a buck or so, the racks wouldn't be so stuffed that you can't get your hands into them.

We need pictures when they bloom, Denise!
I'm just about finished putting my grocery list together, then I'll hit the store. If I go armed with a list and planned menus, I can stay within my grocery budget. Less impulse shopping (HEB offers a LOT of impulse stuff). Otherwise I end up a good 50% over budget (if not more). NOT GOOD. And I even have a fairly high grocery budget (the better the meals I fix, the less likely I am to order delivery or get take out). The real problem is deciding what I want to cook this week. I've found sooooooooooo many good air fryer recipes and they all have minimal prep and cook times.

I looked out the window and it's SNOWING! Not enough to stick so no worries but it was a complete surprise! Supposed to rain today so it's a great day to stay home and inside, and do prep work on a bunch of scarves I need to list.

It is cold and blustery today. Too cold to do anything outside. Areas north of us may get snow. Feel like I want to do something today, yet there is nothing to do.

Got a light dusting of snow last night. I can't remember the last time the sun was out. This has been the gloomiest winter I can remember. I don't really mind though. I'm partial to cloudy days. But most people around here need the sun and a lot of them are getting quite cranky.

Sunny and 60 here today, then we dip to the mid 50's for next week. Works for me. Even with my list, I still ended up overbudget at HEB At least it wasn't due to impluse buys HEB had some staples on sale that I use regularly but just didn't need this week (like coffee) but I went ahead and stocked back up with the sale prices. Plus frozen shrimp was on sale and I'd been planning to get some on the menu in the next couple of weeks, so I got that too. At least it wasn't a bunch of useless impulse buys, and my grocery list for next week will be shorter so it will average out I tried the HEB lemon herb finishing butter on some broccoli last night and it was pretty good. I'm looking forward to tasting the chili lime butter and the jalapeno chipotle butter. Yum!

We're expecting a dry week with mild temps. If I was gonna be home I'd bundle up and do some yard work. But I'm prepping to babysit one of the twin grand babies next week. Her sister is having open heart surgery tomorrow AM to repair her heart murmur. That means Dad & Mom will spend the week at the hospital with her until she can be released. Lucky for me that they live nearby; if I forget anything we can dash over and get back in time for her next bottle. I've been working on my website again, adding listings and rearranging stuff so I got some other goodies weighed and measured. Maybe I can make a little progress when she's napping. Cause EVERYTHING screeches to a halt when the babies are awake and on the move, lol.

Thinking of you and the little one Retro.
More rain here. Right now the sgt is dealing with a car that went off the roadway on campus and is stuck in the mud.
Dispatching all 5 days that I work this week. Ugh. I prefer a mixture of patrol and dispatch.
