Cook's comment on a recipe for roasted shredded Brussels sprouts: When I started making these, I’m a little embarrassed to admit that I sliced them really thinly with a knife by hand for about a year — while standing a foot away from my food processor. It never occurred to me to use it. *facepalm*Sounds like something I would do (as evidenced by my wall art debacle)

Early day today because it was the only time my stylist could work me in for a much needed haircut. They are moving locations so will be closed all next week to get everything set up and I absolutely could not wait any longer. Started on my yard cleanup of frozen plants that should keep me busy. Bwtween all the dead stuff from the yard and the used cat litter pickup, my garbage guys are in for some heavy duty loading at my stop. Val always passes things that her cats don't like to the crew at my house. Kenya has taken a liking to the banana but can't seem to figure out how it works but is consistent on making it work for her.

Kinda makes me wish they made those in adult human size. I can picture myself putting one on the couch and cocooning myself inside to take a nap.

I put one single drop of tea tree oil in the neti pot, so have a tough time putting in less. It's a very popular remedy but others have complained that it gets irritating after some use - possibly need to use it for shorter periods of time or not with every application. Introducing Birdie, the poodle I ran with the other day. She's a wonderful dog, just prances along happily and looks quite bijou. Birdie is quite beautiful! Full disclosure: I am a poodle person as evidenced by my current psychopoodle Francesca. They are very athletic dogs and yes, very smart and sweet as a breed. They only get that silly ornamental horticulture cut when in a dog show. Nobody does that for everyday. It would be like wearing a tiara to the grocery.

Kenya is just fabulous! Siamese, if you please? Thank you. Kenya is Siamese to the core. It is all about her all the time. I grabbed her from the city kill shelter years ago. Probably left there by her owners because she had a bad skin issue at the time. Owner surrender animals only get 3 days at the shelter before they go on the euthanasia list. I thought she probably wouldn't get adopted because of her medical issue so I couldn't walk away. She would prefer to be the only cat here but has learned to deal with the others as long as they don't get in her space. She has been in Stage 2 kidney failure for two years and is holding steady even though she won't eat the prescription food. I need to tell Fancy Feast that they can market their canned food for kidney failure cats as that is all she will eat and she seems to be doing OK on it.

I put in for a pup somewhere else but she has a medical issue so we have to see how bad it is. This rescue is on vacation for another week and a half (like most rescues they don’t want to adopt over holidays). It gives her two more weeks for training which is also nice.
Coworker does have a health scare going on and his hip replacement got put on the back burner. He is back to work. Has some testing in February.
Neighbor had a few trees taken down today. We shall see what happens with the fence. One guy coming Tuesday to give an estimate.

Yesterday was 50 degrees and sunny. What a relief from the cold! I made a fire in the firepit and read a book. The toughest part of my day was deciding what flavor of coffee to make.

Hello, hope everyone is doing well and had a nice holiday The Christmas Eve buffet was really nice, just disappointed that DS had to work. But DIL's birthday is the 1st so they are coming over Sunday for her birthday meal and that will be a nice visit. We had a nice Christmas with mom, too. She had chest pains before coming over here so they gave her the nitroglycerin and that resolved it. They sent two pills with her just in case, but we didn't need to use them. She drowsed off for about 15 minutes and woke up disoriented but recovered from that pretty quickly. She wanted us to give her the nitroglycerin pills so she cold take them herself if she needed! No way she could keep from losing them and/or correctly dosing herself. When DH took her back (I was doing the clean up) he said he gave them back to the nurse and mom gave him a LOOK! Lol.
We have warmed up and I can't say I'm sad lol. I guess I'm just not acclimated to the cold, it was really difficult. Even changing into my nightgown was an ordeal Not that I want the extended miserable summers we have here, but I guess if the other option is cold winters like that, I will have to stick with what I know. We had some thunderstorms yesterday and we needed the rain. Tomorrow I will start trimming up all the dead plants in the front yard, fingers crossed most will come back.
Well oldest DD (in Portland) who lost her 15 year old pup in July got a puppy yesterday! Oh she is so cute! A mix of Chihuahua and Shih Tzu, she is very small, only 4 lbs. Not sure how big she will grow to be, she is 8 weeks. DD felt somewhat guilty, but I told her there is always enough room in your heart. She did forget how much work it is though lol.

You should contact the Fancy Feast folks about that. It might get you free FF for life as that would be quite a few bucks for them as well as recommendations from vets for general use which would be quite a few more. It's easy to do.

Fancy Feast for life. Be still my heart.
I already told my vet that if she has other kidney failure cats that won't eat the prescription food that she should tell them about the FF diet on the sly.

It is currently 64 degrees and overcast here. A far cry from -24 a week ago. Got a few groceries yesterday, including Martini & Rossi for tomorrow and not going near a store until after New Year's. IFC channel is running the entire last season of Better Call Saul that started at 8am until late tonight and it's just awesome. Not as satisfied with the ending like Breaking Bad, but not only the perfect complement to BB, it's also excellent series on its own.
Happy National Bacon Day! We need to celebrate bacon more often.

We are having our NYE dinner today. Leftovers tomorrow. Back to work Sunday.
Crab cakes, baby potatoes, Cole slaw and shrimp. Cheesecake for dessert.
Glad they got that murderer from Idaho. Was hiding at home in the Poconos. Police did a great job keeping things under wrap.

Things can be dangerous to put up your nose though! Drinking water with naegleria fowleri won't hurt you because your stomach acid kills it. But get the exact same water up your nose and you now have a brain eating amoeba with an extremely low curability rate.

I went to the grocery store yesterday afternoon and they were out of a lot of stuff, including produce. I think it has to do with trucking and the weather. Good thing I decided to go in person and not use curbide pickup - I'd have had tons of subs and out of stock selections. I ended up revising the upcoming week's menus as I wandered thru the store. I also ordered delivery from WM today and was notified they were out of the Purina cat chow I usually buy. Amazon didn't have any for delivery any earlier than next week (Thursday), Target was totally out, and Chewy promised delivery in 4 days (due to the holiday). I finally found some at HEB and authorized a slightly different Purina chow if they're out of the Indoor formula when they fill my order. I don't know if the shortage is from delayed deliveries due to weather, or if we're about to see another cat food shortage.

Our grocery store (Wegmans) had a sign up that eggs are low in supply due to both the Avian flu and weather in Buffalo.

We were up north in Bellingham (another place we are thinking of moving to). Yesterday we went on a hike, and lucked out on the weather - it was cloudy, cool and spitting, but it wasn't really raining as we understand rain. There was this cool tunnel: We got up to the top of the hill we were aiming for and had a great view looking out onto Bellingham Bay with the loading docks: These two parked next to each other in the hotel parking lot. Then there was this: Also, I forgot to upload this when I was in England - it was raining and these people were having tea in front of one of the tea pavilions. They're about as impervious to the wet as we are here: The man just slapped the tray on his head to keep the rain off lol.

Going to put my traditional pork roast and sauerkraut into my slow roaster. Had planned to have it with my usual mashed potatoes, but I had a potato yesterday after chemo and it knocked me on my butt. Stupid hypoglycemia. totally running out of food choices.

Very mild here today, sunny and 70's, yay! Got the yard cleaned up and Janey bathed and the sheets washed and on the line so I am feeling pretty accomplished today lol. Hoping to stay up late enough to watch a movie, the horror move Smile, I've been wanting to see it but wanted to wait till after Christmas, as I had many Christmas movies I wanted to watch.
I hope everyone has a great day and a Wonderful New Year! I hope we all sell all of our inventory, and for high prices!
And to end the year on a note of adorableness, this is little Daisy, DD's new pup. Went to the vet yesterday and all is well and she weighs all of 3 1/2 lbs!

Saw the sun peek out for all of about 5 minutes this afternoon. It's been so long since I've seen it it was startling how light it was outside! lol
Going to DD's house for dinner tonight. She has some friends coming over and invited us too. We won't stay long but it will be nice to get together.
Tomorrow is our annual "rain/shine/snow/blizzard/zombie apocalypse/whatever gets thrown at us" cook out. DH cooks everything on the grill no matter what the weather that day. Got some nice porterhouse steaks, lobster tails, and shrimp. This is the one day where DH cooks everything, including his "famous" potatoes so I don't have to do anything but the dishes! lol
Wishing all my friends here a very happy and prosperous new year!
