Good morning, everyone! Day after Christmas and hope everyone had a good weekend and those who were out in the deep freeze stayed safe and warm, even those who lost power. Hard to believe at the stroke of midnight Saturday, we'll start a new year. Hope everyone has a warm, cozy day!

Well, I am FINALLY feeling human again today! Woo hoo! I have to return to work tomorrow so I am glad to feel better. I may even venture out to the Bath and Body Works sale today bc I am itching to get out of the house. I have a very slight lingering cough but that is non unusual for me when I get sick and it will probably take a few weeks for me to fully kick.
I did have to miss all the festivities which was not ideal but such is life. My Christmas Chex Mix will just become New Years Chex mix - though I see some deliveries in my future bc it makes a TON.
With the extreme cold, we are now having issues in our bedroom. We woke up to water spots all over the ceiling. Not sure what is going on as it is unlikely to be a roof leak as we had no water the previous few weeks with some rain. It's always something! We need to get up to the attic to have a look but our attic is so dang hard to access so that will be fun. (Basically a hole in the ceiling, in a small closet, no dropdown and nearly impossible to get a ladder to). We also only have a partial attic over the bedroom bc of a partially vaulted ceiling and no attic on about 1/2 of the house bc of super high ceilings.
Very excited that DH bought me a new knife set! Our knives had seen much better days and I have been asking for some nice knives for a while.
Anyone working on any new year's resolutions? I think mine is going to be an entire, full house extreme deep clean and organize.

Our power is out yet again - the storm that blew through here yesterday evening and night uprooted some trees and they came down on the power lines. The dh went for a bike ride to get out of the house. I went thrifting at the post Christmas sale and only found two over priced items. I put them back and left. I'm really starting to hate thrifting as the prices went way up but most of the good stuff is going on line - I don't trust their picking skills enough to try flipping online. I'm going north this week for a couple of days to try my luck.

I hope you get your power back soon, Chap. I woke up this morning with a sinus infection - the whole right side of my face (including my teeth) hurt like the dickens. The office is closed this week and the only thing I had on my calendar was to watch a bunch of training vidoes. So I decided to goof off today (and if needed tomorrow) in hopes of this infection going away sooner rather than later. I also had a craving for a patty melt or grilled cheese on rye but the grocery store was out of rye bread. Guess it wil be a few days before the shelves are restocked. I ended up ordering a tuna melt on rye from the deli just up the road from me. Weather is warming up here and we'll be in the low 70s by the weekend. Back to lazing on the sofa binge watching Father Brown. I might try for another Christmas movie later.

No power still - sitting here in the dark reading with my headlight and listening to the rain. I went out earlier for a run and got home just in time. The crews are out working in the slop working to clear debris and fix the lines - roads are closed all around our little area. Guess we'll just HAVE to go to the pub 😅

BTW, for those of you experiencing power outages, most homeowner and renters insurance will cover the cost of replacing food that spoiled from the power outage. Also, it's generally NOT subject to a deductible.

Day 10 of COVID restrictions. I am hoping that I test negative tomorrow. I am going crazy. I haven't been out yet because I am so afraid of accidentally giving it to someone. I was still testing positive on Sunday.
I should add that I have walked on the path before the weather got so cold.
I hope everyone who is sick feels better and everyone who is without electricity sees it back on today.
I haven't listed a single thing since my mom died on December 8th. I am having a hard time getting my mojo back. I have stuff to list and plenty of time, but for some reason I just can't do it.

You should be ok going out and about. Wear a mask. I did the same thing. I was worried about getting together with friends at Dunkin. I waited 3 weeks total.
It takes a bit to get back in the groove after a loss. Take your time. Maybe small steps.

Chap, I hope your power comes on asap. Val, hope you're feeling a lot better today. Dawn, I hope things start getting better for you, even if it's a baby step at a time.
We were lucky the only thing that kept going on and off yesterday was our cable and internet glitching (same service). I told DH I'd rather those do it instead of power and heat.
It's finally going to feel above 0 and going to get out and about. DH and friends went to a casino yesterday for 2 nights so won't see him til whenever tomorrow. Treating myself to favorite pizza so I don't have to cook today.

My sinuses are much improved today. I really think the trick is the nasal rinses. I use the nasal squeeze bottles and add 2-3 drops of VERY concentrated melaleuca oil to each bottle. From day one I do a rinse about every 3 hours, with the last one at about 8:00 pm. It seems to really work as the last several infections I've been able to knock out in about 2 days instead of a week or more. Today's task is to put a batch of ratatouille in the slow cooker. The apartment should be smelling really good around noon Hey Chap - it looks like your power outage wasn't just weather related: www.cnn.com/2022/12/25/us/tacoma-washington-substations-vandalized/index.html

Yeah - we're wondering if the attack on the power stations wasn't a knock-on effect from the terrorist attack earlier in NC. But Tacoma is about 70 miles south of us - we had our own struggles up here. Right now it's just steadily raining, which is pretty normal, though high winds are again predicted, with flooding. We're used to squalls pounding through wreeking havoc (once we had an earthquake right in the middle of a nasty storm), but the power outages are a pain. Also, we have our worst storms in November, but for some reason here they are in December. Still, nothing is so bad as what the people in the Buffalo area are going through!
@dawn_r - you can test positive for days after you've recovered from Covid - the DH tested positive for 18 days, even though he was cleared to go back to work 5 days after symptoms subsided. I had Covid worse than the DH, but despite that I tested negative only 5 days after my positive test, despite still being sick. I also probably had two false negative tests at the beginning - I kind of wonder if my immune system fakes out the home tests or something.
I'll try your sinus idea, Val - I have crap sinuses from living up here most of my life and could use some relief. I was doing neti pot with tea tree oil, but it starts getting irritating aftr a while. Anyway, I'm glad you're feeling better! You, too, Pyrex!

I bought a canvas piece I've been eyeing forever for the dining room, since I now have more wall space. It came in Christmas Eve and I hung it up. I've been looking at it ever since, thinking it just didn't look right and feeling disappointed because the colors are perfect. This morning I was storing some things in the console under the picture and thought, why did they put such a large hornet nest in the picture? That's when I realized what I thought was a hornet next was a basket and I'd hung the picture upside down. 🤦♀️ Duh. It now looks much better.

Very busy at work. Add busted fire sprinkler pipes into the mix. That means we have to physically check those buildings every hour. What a PITA.
And we were supposed to have a full shift today and tomorrow. Co-worker having out patient tests done for hip replacement next month. Cardiologist called him just before he got to work and told him to go to hospital emergency room immediately. This is a guy who works a ton of OT every week. Hoping he is ok.
Hubby is fighting with Travelers about the fence. We are trying to prove the tree was dead. We have video and photos over time but they don't show the tops of the trees. They are telling us to send letters to our neighbors advising them their trees are dead and they need to do something about them and that if they damage our property we will hold them responsible. Not very neighborly is it? The law needs to change. We shall see. Also our deductible is $1000 not $500. Ugh.

I put one single drop of tea tree oil in the neti pot, so have a tough time putting in less. It's a very popular remedy but others have complained that it gets irritating after some use - possibly need to use it for shorter periods of time or not with every application. Introducing Birdie, the poodle I ran with the other day. She's a wonderful dog, just prances along happily and looks quite bijou.

I usually frown on the way a lot of poodles are groomed, especially with too much shaved and/or "pom poms" on their rears. I must say, I'm impressed with the quite dignified cut on Birdie. labbypaws, I hope your coworker's o.k., too. Good thing he had tests when he did to catch whatever's wrong. My SIL and her now ex still haven't put their house up for sale. They have a ton of trees in a not-so-large yard that several have fallen over into neighbor yards. The neighbors made them take care of it through their insurance. Doesn't seem fair (or neighborly) you should be out anything when it's their tree that caused the damage.
Val- too funny about the pic. Thanks for sharing your "duh".

I really like poodles - they're smart, quiet and good natured. I liked Birdie's cut, too - it's warm for outdoors, but retains the 'traditional' water-dog hunter characteristics with the furred upper body and head, with a dash of style.

We are starting to warm up a bit. Glad to get rid of the below zero wind chill temps.
I took a quick trip to the supermarket yesterday and I was so glad that I was wearing a mask. It seem like half the people were coughing. I don't understand why you would go out without a mask if you have a cold/cough. Half my family/friend circle is fighting some sort of illness.

It's a very popular remedy but others have complained that it gets irritating after some use - possibly need to use it for shorter periods of time or not with every application. Are you using distilled water and adding salt? I accidentally forgot to add the saline packet one time and OMG did that burn! (That's where I like the NeilMed set better - premeasured saline packets!) Something else to consider - have you been to an ENT specialist doc to see if you have nasal polyps, deviated septum etc? Sunny and warmer today at 71. Logged into my first webinar today and realized it was a repeat of one I'd already sat thru - the presenter just changed the name of the course So I watched one from last week that I'd missed. I have another in about 10 minutes, hope it's good. Tomorrow and Friday it's webinar training all day. At least I won't have to respond to messages and emails and won't have clients interrupting me with phone calls. I like recorded remote training - you can put it on pause and go get a cup of coffee, walk around, pet the cats, whatever

Yes - I use distilled water with the NeilMed packets. I don't heat the water though, just use it room temp, which here is a little cool, and that might be irritating things. I have gone to ENTs before, down through the years - once I got so jammed up I had to have steroid shots into my nose - bleh. Everything is perfectly normal - sinus stuff is just endemic here, for some worse than others. Neti pots are very popular.
I'm still working out in a mask and wearing one in stores - there's a lot of stuff going around here, too!

I warm mine up for 30 seconds in the microwave. But it's a low wattage - 700 maybe? The microwave in the old apt was stronger, like 1100 watts maybe so it only took about 10-12 seconds.

Cloudy and 62 with 100% humidity right now. Ugg. We're supposed to hit 68 today. I can live with that but I sure hope the humidity goes down. High 70s for the holiday weekend. Looks like major storms for the west/NW, east and south between now and Monday. Expect possible delays from UPS, FedEx and USPS, depending on the weather between you and your buyer or you and whomever you bought from. I was going to go to the grocery store tomorrow but I think I'll go this morning. Tomorrow will probably be busy with people buying for New Years Eve parties and football games over the weekend. It might be less crowded this morning. One can dream anyway If you regularly use olive oil, you might want to stock up before prices go up: www.cnn.com/interactive/2022/09/business/olive-oil-shortage-drought-cnnphotos/

Yes - I use distilled water with the NeilMed packets. I just use warm tap water. My ENT told me, "If you'd drink it, then you can put it in your nose".
