Are you sure you want to leave higher ed for secondary, Labby? Seems to me higher ed would be a safer location.

Are you sure you want to leave higher ed for secondary, Labby? Seems to me higher ed would be a safer location. Not sure. Just that our job at work is changing so much. I have piss poor supervisors who can’t do their jobs. It is becoming a drudge. Time for a change. Yes I can stick it out 3 more years if I have to but not sure I want to do that. I have a couple of friends who work for that school district and they say the job is easy. It is grades 1 (maybe K) thru grade 3. I do not want to work in a middle school or high school. I did a high school and did not like it. But we were more like glorified hall Patrol and cafeteria monitors. The woman I worked with made us clear off the tables instead of making the students do it.

I was a volunteer mom for 8 years in my daughter's elementary school. I worked in the library, helped the teachers and directed a "Project Self-Esteem" program. It was fun but I didn't get paid.

Thanks, Val and Kritter, for being concerned about me. We're safe in Missouri right now, not heading back to Florida until late October. Our house in Florida has a great management team, and they've emailed several times to let us know that there wasn't any flooding, damage, or even power outages. I think our entire 450-house subdivision only had three trees blown down. So we really dodged a bullet this time!

I was pretty sure that ya'll weren't in Florida but was hoping your house wasn't in the way of flooding.
Glad to hear all is well for both ya'll and the house.

Great news Tabby. I have one friend down there whose food has thawed. Not that bad in the scheme of things. She is from the Midwest and misses her old house. This might do it for her.

FL friend emailed to let me know she's o.k. It didn't get that bad where she is other than water rising (and thankfully not reaching the house), a few downed trees and power is still out including cellphone and internet. She drove to her daughter's place that never lost power and said she was staying home because it was still dangerous to drive around.
We were surprised Yuppie BIL called to say the complex south of Myrtle Beach where they own a condo they use for vacation/rental and a decent distance from the Atlantic, surprisingly got 6 feet of water. Their condo is on the second floor and unharmed, but first floor storage got flooded along with all those condos. He vented about a couple other things and never heard him use so many f-bombs, which is out of character. I waited til he hung up and told DH stuff like golf clubs and a grill can easily be replaced. He should be thankful they were down there last week and not this week or it would have been worse, plus think about how many people lost everything.

Our power came back on a little while ago after about 24 hours. We're in NC.
A college friend of mine recently moved to North Fort Myers, FL. She and her family left the area to stay with friends and are going back to check on their houre.

Notdot said their house is OK except for no power and the usual downed tree limbs.

There are people down there left with hardly a stitch on their backs and everything gone. Perspective! I donated to the cause - if they need anything physical I'm happy to chip in, as well.

The other thing to remember is the local hardware stores and chains were effected by the storms. Amazon trucks and warehouses got flooded out. I know FedEx sent out a message about their issues.

I finally found out what is going to be built on the huge (55 acres) lot across the street from my apartment complex: www.loopnet.com/Listing/West-Avenue-and-Wurzbach-Parkway-San-Antonio-TX/26517097/I'm on the front so I get all the dust and noise from the traffic, which at the moment isn't all that bad. That will be changing. Guess I won't be renewing my lease next year. I can't believe they approved the zoning, given this is residential. The other side of the lot (waaaaaaaaaaaay on the other side) is commerical so I guess that's why they went for it. Bleah.

Val-that sure would be a good incentive to move. Sorry that you have to move! But maybe you won't have the wasps!
