Does anyone remember Beth the vet? She posts here every now and then. She lives down that way, I want to say on Marcos Island maybe?

Cats are so funny. I moved the living room chairs out to the breezeway, to make it easier for the guy picking them up shortly. The cats keep walking around the living room, looking at the empty space and then each other as if they're asking "where did the chairs go?" I have another one to move into the living room after dinner so they won't be chairless.

Yes, Beth lives on Marcos Island. I hope she's OK! She's really a lovely person.

We keep our keys about 12 feet from the front door. I wonder if that is far enough away. Might just get a small box.

Yes, Beth lives on Marcos Island. I hope she's OK! She's really a lovely person. If she's still in the same house as she was several years ago, she lives right on the end of a water canal system that opens to the open water. Easy area to get flooded. Marco Island also got hit several years ago during a bad hurricane.

I am glad that I have a garage. And my keys are in my bedroom in my purse....about 15 feet vertically from the front of my garage door.

My heart goes out to those who live in Florida. Watching the Weather Channel showing video of the destruction as it happened and left behind from Ian and pray the death toll will be very low. I was checking webcams yesterday until they went down and found out the pier in Naples, which I'd seen only an hour earlier, is no more. Even though it's been downgraded to a tropical storm, there's still plenty of destruction to come in flooding in FL, GA and the Carolinas.

I've been texting with Notdot, she lives in Sarasota. She and her brother went to the other side of the state and stayed with his daughter. They're headed back now to Sarasota to see if their place had damage or not. I texted Beth but haven't heard from her yet. Tabby, are you OK?

Beth said they're OK, areas north of her were hit harder than they were. She also said no one was expecting the storm to be this bad.

Yes, because it surged south of where they thought.
My friend's daughter is ok. Just an inch of water in their sunroom.
So far everyone else I know has checked in and is ok. One guy lost his fencing mand part of their roof on Cape Coral.

Tabby is on the east coast of Florida so they are probably OK. I think they had some winds going on but not water issues other than some rain.

The northern part of the east coast of FL was hit - that's where Ian exited.
He's back up to a Cat 1 now.

You bet we're glad we're not in Myrtle Beach now. I've been watching Weather Channel and checking a bunch of webcams and it would totally suck to be down there. Ian just made landfall and there's already major flooding, power outages and destruction (end of Pawley's Island Pier broke off, parts of walkways at the beach gone as well as fences protecting the dunes). We were down there at the end of Ivan and that was bad enough, but only lasted the day with minimal damage so I know what it feels like down there now with the rain and wind gusts. Worst part would be driving home (or attempting to) in the same track Ian's heading up north. This is fall Harley Biker Week down there and consensus is the bikers are sticking around til Sunday. I just hope they'll be able to get out safely.
And a lot of webcams are now down.

Hard to believe all the destruction around MB area, including a few piers being badly damaged. Looks like weather's already improving as far as the Atlantic retreating from roadways leaving plenty of debris to clean up.
The Weather Channel has been busy not only covering conditions through the day in the Carolinas, but more coverage in Florida showing the massive damage. Still waiting to hear from friend in FL and hope she and family are o.k.
