It's a lot hotter down there than it is up here! It was 72 for a high here, and that's not that unusual - our summers often come late. Weird for two places only 200 miles apart, but it happens a lot. jesmelric - she was visiting with the boyfriend and they were about to head to the activities room so it seems all was well.ROFL - gotta watch those senior activity rooms - they can be dens of iniquity! My bro was telling me about visiting grandma and finding here in the senior activity room at a big table with about 10 people around it, playing cards. They were gambling like mad and grandma (who was about 98 at the time) was holding the bank and keeping everybody honest lol. I'm sure they were playing with chips but not sure what kind of collateral was behind those chips. I know grandma had two men bringing her ice cream. The DH took a bike ride today, took it easy but managed 40 miles or so with no problem. I was able to do some light work for three hours today before wearing out, but I'm hacking and coughing still and tired of the soap taste. jesmelric - I think of you and your long trial with parosmia. I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Another month bites the dust. Air conditioning is off, heat is on. Have to get used to temps 30 degrees cooler, but it's still better than what's to come in the next month or so. Time to do inventory what I need for winter stock-up. Hope everyone has the best day they can.

Beautiful day in SEPA. Got out for a nice walk. Only problem is contractors are working on the underground electric in our development so it is a pain to go around them.

Hopefully today is last day at 90+ for the season. I'm ready for the 80s. Dynasty season 5 dropped on Netflix this weekend so I started watching last night. It's the last season and it appears the writers decided to have fun with the show - it's a bit more absurd and humorous than previous seasons. TBH though, that show never really did take itself all that seriously after season 1. It's a fun guilty pleasure, just like 9-1-1 Lone Star is. The Rookie season 5 hits Hulu this week, and the new season for 9-1-1 also started so life is good. For all you NCIS fans, the season opener last week was two cross over episodes, one on regular NCIS and then continuing on NCIS Hawaii. I'd love to see Paramount do a cross over with all 3 NCIS - orignal, Hawaii and Los Angeles.

I picked up my 2 mums today for a benefit for the Relay for Life. I hated to pay $12.50 each for two of them, but I didn't realize how HUGE they are!
I picked 2 burgundy ones. My front porch has white wrought-iron furniture and I set one on the chaise to cut open the plastic sleeve and it filled the whole chaise! They are about 3 feet in diameter. And gorgeous.
Since kids around here like to steal mums and also to fend off the deer, I tied the deer netting that is over the mums into the holes of the chaise. I put the other one on the wrought-iron table. Hopefully they will last this way.

I don't remember which folks here live in Florida, but I think we do have a few. Stay safe! It also looks like Ian might make FL landfall earlier than originally forecast. It never ceases to surprise me how much room three relatively small cats can take up on the bed when they all stretch out. If I'd known I was going to have more than one cat, I'd have bought a kingsize bed Still warm here but at least the humidity is gone. Yay!

(((allikat))) Keeping you in my prayers.
(((chap & DH))) Keeping you in my prayers too. Hope you are feeling better soon.
It was hot last week, in the upper 80's. Woke up this morning to outside temp of 43°! It was 66° in the house but I REFUSE to turn on the heat yet. When it's chilly in the house, I make soup! Big pot of ham and bean soup simmering right now.
It seems like in the spring we go from winter straight to summer (I had the furnace on one week and the A/C on the next!) and the summer goes straight to heater season, no true fall weather.
I refuse to wear pullover hoodies but I live in the zip front ones when the weather turns chilly. In the winter, I'll throw my heavy winter coat in the car if we go somewhere, but I wear my hoodie. Easy enough to take off in a store when a hot flash kicks in!

I'll keep my fingers crossed! Lol, Mom says they play bingo and watch movies but her memory isn't great so who really knows I do know he doesn't have a roommate and they are allowed to go in his room for privacy, and we definitely don't ask what happens in there!!! She was doing well today and when we left she was going to have lunch in the lunch room with him.
Chap I hope you and DH are recovering well. DS and DIL had it again last month and they are both unvaccinated and took forever to shake it. Hopefully you guys will have a much quicker recovery.
Beautiful day here! They say the coolest temps in 5 months, it feels like 5 years lol. I am going to mow the yard tomorrow in prep for putting out Halloween on Saturday. It's supposed to be a lovely day Saturday (50s/80s) so it should be perfect weather.
Denise, I hope your mums will be safe. No deer around here, but the amount of coyote sightings is getting really crazy. I'm not really afraid of them, I know they will leave you alone. But Janey and I are out early and she has leash reactivity so I'm nervous of what might happen if she really reacts to one, how it would react to that.

My thermostat is set at 80 in the summer and 72 in the winter. No deviations. Just the way it is and always will be.
When it comes on, it comes on and the same for when it goes off.

They've started development on the acreage across the street from my complex. It's a huge piece of land with deer and other critters. It appears the deer have relocated down the street to the city park. Which is kind of cool, since they're easier to spot in the park. The park is part of a huge greenway that connects multiple parks by extensive bike/walking trails, so the deer will end up with more room to roam. They left some of the trees at the edge of the lot by the road alone. I hope that means they plan to add some more ugly-warehouse-distribution-center-view blocking trees. My thermostat is at 75 during the day on warm days, 65 at night all year long, and around 68 or so for winter days because I use space heaters to heat the two main spots in the apartment. Twila is so cute. When she wants to be petted, she walks in front of my monitor if I'm on the computer, or touches my arm with her nose if I'm watching TV or lying in bed. Such a polite kitty!

Just had a Centennial Harvest basket delivered to my door by city employees. Put together from Natural Grocers and our city garden. Delivered to senior citizen residents. Lots of healthy organic stuff for people who cook which is not me. Nice basket for cat toys.

My thermostat is on 70 and I turn it down to 67 at night. I will turn it up when the temps get a lot colder.
My daughter's BF just went to Ohio to pick up a car that he bought from an auto auction to flip. It is a Ford Fusion, a few years old with low mileage and he only paid $2,000.
That is because it has been painted crudely with profanity and men's body parts. Seems that someone was really mad at her husband's mistress? LOL.

We keep our thermostat at 67 during the day all year round and 55 at night all year round. It never changes - the heat comes on when it comes on and goes off when it goes off lol. We don't have air (though reverse the heat pump once every few summers for a few days). It was weirdly hot today, and it's getting smokey - the winds are blowing from east which is the hot part of the state and bringing in the Bolt Creek smoke while they're at it. I cancelled my walk today - even with an N95 mask I'm still coughing so hard that I just don't want to mess with it. We'll see how it is tomorrow. I'm back to work but have to take naps. The DH is almost back to normal, with a light cough. The soap taste isn't as bad as it was, but yesterday things kept smelling like onions. We put off our visit to east of the mountains until I'm more back on my feet and can ride my bike or run or even just walk.

Thinking of the people near Tampa. I have a Labrador friend who lives in St Pete’s Beach. She tried to evacuate and was on her way but her kitty started vomiting and freaking out so she turned around and went back. My cousin’s daughter is an emergency dispatcher near there and another friend’s daughter is a paramedic and is evacuating hospitals and nursing homes.

I'm watching the Weather Channel and Naples already has cars barely visible from the flooding and the worst is yet to come. Current speed 155 mph and category 4 hurricane. I have a friend in LaBelle who's hunkered down.

Help from Texas.....
SAN ANTONIO – Some local CPS Energy employees will be providing a helping hand to people in Florida in the wake of Hurricane Ian.
The storm, which is carrying heavy rain and powerful winds, could cause widespread power outages in that state.
The Jacksonville Electric Authority requested help in advance of the hurricane, and CPS Energy was happy to oblige.
“Electricity is no longer a luxury in life. It has become a necessity,” said William Schneider, the company’s construction maintenance manager.
Schneider is leading the group of about three dozen employees who set out, caravan-style, from their East side service station on E. Houston Street.
For Schneider, this is his first time making a trek like this in a supervisory role, although he has seen his share of hurricanes.
“Dolly, Ike, Matthew. Several of them,” he said, ticking off the storms by name.
The crews expect to perform tasks that include repairing power lines and replacing utility poles –- anything to help people affected by the storm to get back on the electric grid

Power companies from all over the country are sending trucks and personnel. It's normal practice. It's cool when you're on the interstate and one of the convoys passes you.
I'm happy that diaster officials finally realized people won't let their pets behind and opened pet friendly shelters.

The National Hurricane Center said the eye of the Category 4 hurricane made landfall near Cayo Costa State Park at 3:05 p.m. just north of Sanibel and Captiva Islands after its eyewall lashed residents in Charlotte and Lee counties for the last several hours.
Same track as Charley back in 2004. Ian is supposed to cross the state, then reform in the Atlantic and hit the US coast again.
The flooding is huge.

I really wish the reporters would stay out of the brunt of the weather. I'm always afraid someone's going to get seriously hurt (or worse) from flying debris or lightning. The cameras do a good enough job showing what's going on.
One of the owners where DH works has a home in Ft.Myers.
