I stock up on short grain brown rice. I also stock up on coffee beans. The DH stocks up on light olive oil - he has a half dozen bottles at all times - Jarlsberg cheese and tea. We will eat weird if things go pear shape, I guess.
We don't have to stock up on cat food anymore, but we started hoarding it practically when the shelves went bare months ago.

I started buying Costco dog food for 3 of my dogs. The brands I buy just got too expensive $67 for 30 pounds. I was running low hence the reason I had to run out today. Their dog food is made by Diamond and is highly rated. I can get 40 pound bags for a reasonable price.

MIL's house is exactly one mile from us and putting air in a tire is easy. Next closest is a Sunoco station about 2 miles away that probably still does it for free. I had to do a load of laundry anyway so glad it happened before snow starts later tonight.
Funny, but for years I'd stock up a lot of extra coffee, coffee creamer, tea bags, paper products and canned goods for winter and got funny looks and stupid comments when I'd have, say 6 large containers of powdered coffee creamer or 5 or more cans of coffee. Now, I see lots of people buying multiples of items and nobody raises an eyebrow. I think of myself as a pre-pandemic trendsetter.

AAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!! My Keurig died!!! (Good thing DD works at Target and will pick one up for me tomorrow! This chick doesn't function well decaffeinated!!) Did you call Keurig? I have had them for forever and when one breaks and I call, they have sent a free new one! It doesn't seem to matter how old it is, since they just ask for the model number. I just had to send them the cup-holder thing, but the first one that broke many years ago, I didn't have to send anything.
And then when I get a new one, I register it and get BOGO's on their coffee.
I got my first one a from a friend who went right out and bought a new one. But all she had to do was to use a needle to clean out the coffee-poker thing. So she did that, it worked and she gave it to me.
When that one finally did break, Keurig sent me another one, and then another one. So I never had to pay for a new one.

We just got an email from our cable provider warning that their services may be out late tonight and tomorrow morning due to expected snow and high winds, so the internet/phones/TV will be out especially if the power goes out like it usually does. Here we go again. Just took a hot shower and also made sure all our rechargeables are plugged in, all the dishes washed, vacuumed the floors, and made sure I have extra water bottles in the freezer. No power here means no heat or running water.
I need to get an all-metal stove-type coffee maker to be able to use on our gas grill when our power goes out. We made the mistake when purchasing our Weber Genesis gas grill years ago, it's still in perfect condition, but we should have gone for the extra 50.00 to get the side burner on it. With this Weber, as soon as you lift the cover the temperature starts to go right down, you cannot cook on it with the cover open, so you really can't put a huge pan of water on the grill to boil if you have no running water. The side burner would be what we could have used so many times.
I looked around for a camper-type coffee pot that could withstand the heat of the grill with the cover closed, saw one at Cabela's but they wanted over 50.00 and it was too tall, just need a small 4-6 cup. I guess I could drive to DunkinD or to our coffee shop in the next town over if the power goes out, but it would be nice to make the coffee ourselves.

AAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!! My Keurig died!!! (Good thing DD works at Target and will pick one up for me tomorrow! This chick doesn't function well decaffeinated!!) If it's not an electrical power problem, you can try this. This cure was all over the internet years ago. It brought our old one back, we have the older model B60, special edition. Take the keurig to the sink and turn it upside down put an old towel in the sink to protect the sink and the machine. Slap the machine silly on all sides, like you are beating it up. Then shake it vigorously. Then do it all again. They call it burping the keurig. You can google that and there are several articles on how to do it exactly. It worked for us after we tried everything else, cleaning, descaling, etc. Of course, Keurig does not recommend this method of repair.

A French press is awesome for making coffee when the power goes out- we use one in our camper. It's a large press that makes about 8 cups- a lifesaver for us 4 coffee drinkers when we were without power for 5 days last year. You just need a small bottle of propane and a burner-type attachment so you can boil a pot of water. Of course it has to be done outside but that's a small price to pay for a cup of fresh coffee BEFORE you drive to Starbucks or wherever.
DH & I drove to Seattle and back today so he could deliver an antique 1920s plumbing fixture to a specialty plater. The faucet & handles are gold plated with a sort-of stylized sea dragon-ish dolphin creature as the spout- it's a stunning piece! He's rebuilding it for a client in San Francisco but it needs to be re-plated before he reassembles it and returns it to them. Now it's safely in the platers hands and he can relax. But OMG it rained cats & dogs most of the way there and back, and all the rivers looked like they were at or above flood stage. We're glad to be back home safe and cozy.

I won a new Keurig at our company picnic this last August. I had just bought one about a month before that so I sold it for $80.
I put in a Walmart grocery order for pick up and got notice they were out of bread and diet coke. So, before I picked it up I went in the store to see my alternatives...nearly all the soda was gone. I found two 2-liters of caffeine-free diet coke for my mom. Had to buy bread that was about 3x more expensive too. I've never seen a Walmart grocery look so bare. It was kind of scary, to be honest.

I received my Walmart grocery order yesterday and everything that I ordered was delivered. A $200 order, so our store must be well-stocked.
I have it dropped off on my back porch so I just have to bring the stuff straight into my kitchen. But just making that 20 trips into the house and putting it all away totally wiped me out.
If Covid ever goes away, I will continue to have my groceries delivered since I just don't have the energy anymore. But I am well-set with food for a month now.

Wegmans has no cream cheese. I was able to get a tub of light a few weeks back. I buy their fat free kind though. But you can’t get any cream cheese whatsoever there.
We got 3 “ of snow right on the dot. We just cleared our walkway, cars and driveway.

We're stuck with about 6-8 inches of snow here with drifts all over. Not too bad for us, the power is still on so I'm OK with it. Sun just came out, snow will get softer, but temps are dropping low tonight so it will freeze if not shoveled and cleared out. Our sunroom sliding glass doors to the lower terrace are frozen shut, I couldn't get out through those doors. I need to get to the bird feeder in the backyard. So instead, I put out a basket/bowl of seed on the top of the snow-covered grill on the deck, was able to shovel out the deck area a bit.
Waiting for the plow guys to show up to do the driveway and front walks. I need to get out of here by 1:30 PM. If not plowed I think the SUV will be able to plow through all of it if I put the SUV in 4-wheel drive. I wish I had backed into the garage last night, it would have made things a lot easier to drive right out, not needing to stop at the end of the driveway to back-out over the town plow mound they always create on the roads.

If I ate beans yesterday and had to wait til today to celebrate Pass Gas Day, I'd be floating on the ceiling.
Local news says 2-4" of snow today, online source says around 1", which I think(hope) is more accurate. Everything's covered in snow, -2 degrees with windchill (feels right as I had to put more cayenne pepper on the balcony to ward off the tree rats, light snow stopped earlier and sun is out.
I haven't really noticed any major shortages other than Aldi being sparse on frozen seafood, low on eggs and local IGA was recently almost wiped out of Gatorade and meat department doesn't have as much selection as they used to. I pretty much make a list, get what I need, checkout and leave. I'm lucky to have probably a dozen stores to get groceries within a 10 mile radius.

HEB is out of a lot of cream cheese offerings too. They've been out of a couple of flavored ones I buy for almost 2 months now, and I noticed the other day that all of the blends are out at my usual store except for the HEB plain cream cheese and HEB strawberry cream cheese, and there wasn't much of those two on hand either. At first I thought it was due to people buying it for holiday cooking, but now that cooking need is up. So of course I googled it. www.cnn.com/2021/12/18/business/cream-cheese-cyberattack-schreiber-foods/index.htmlIn October, a cyberattack against the largest US cheese manufacturer contributed to a nationwide cream cheese shortage shortly before the holidays, Bloomberg News reported, endangering holiday treats for millions.
Bloomberg reported the attack targeted plants and distribution centers. As a result, Wisconsin-based Schreiber Foods was unable to fully operate for several days — just as it was heading into its peak busy period before the Thanksgiving, Hanukkah and Christmas holidays.
The company is one of the country's largest marketers for dairy products, including cheese slices, yogurt and the all-important cream cheese, with annual sales of more than $5 billion.
The brutally-timed attack compounded existing problems: Schreiber Foods said every cream cheese producer was already struggling to keep up adequate supply.
Even before the cyberattack and holiday demand peak, manufacturers were struggling because of labor shortages and supply chain disruptions for raw materials, packaging and trucking. Cream cheese isn't like some other goods that can be stockpiled. No one keeps huge globs of it on hand, and there's certainly no strategic reserve for cream cheese, as there is for oil in the United States and maple syrup in Canada.

Thank you, but it's not a big deal. I have to pickup my mail today or tomorrow, so I can just pop in at the Lincoln Heights store and see what they have. It's not like cream cheese is a critically needed item I was able to find smaller packs of paper towels yesterday. For anyone doing low carb or keto diets, sliced cucumbers with a dab of cream cheese on them (especially flavored cream cheese) makes a great, low carb crunchy snack.

Well, it's still raining here, that's all lol. Some sloppy wet snow last night and some predicted for tonight. All of the passes are closed - you cannot get here from there, or there from here, unless you go all the way down to Oregon and get over the low pass there, so one half of the state is completely cut off from the other half. This isn't unusual except generally not ALL of the passes in the state are closed, the one to the south is usually open if one doesn't mind hazarding snow conditions. We have a lot of commerce going back and forth between western and eastern Washington and the mountain passes are the only way to get it through, so everyone is stymied for now.

People in storm areas need to monitor weather alerts and either cancel or plan their trip accordingly, including truckers. It's not like these winter storms just pop up with no warning.

I hope everyone is doing ok, so many are having bad weather! We are cloudy in the 50s. Not the greatest, and definitely not the worst. It's supposed to rain tomorrow, and we really actually need it. I have some dying plants, I guess I didn't realize they were so dry because usually it's the summer where you constantly have to water and I just overlooked them
I guess I am in the minority but I just can't stand coffee. I don't like the taste of it at all. I don't like coffee flavored things either; ice cream, candies, etc. DH drinks it, I make him a small pot every morning. I'd rather have water lol.
I went to Kroger this morning and other than some empty spots (dairy, some canned goods, etc) on the shelves they were pretty well stocked. I even got some winter cherries I didn't notice if they had cream cheese. I made DH a home made cheese cake for our anniversary in Nov, and there's still some slices left in the deep freeze, so we should be good for a while.
We have a gas stove, too. And thank goodness DH bought a generator 2 years ago and we had it for the winter storm last year. I was all about keeping the deep freezer plugged in. I was like my See's chocolates are in there! And our steaks!! And the Omaha goodies DD sends us! Goodness, the cash value in there is probably pretty high lol.
I decided to restart my Netflix DVD's by mail. I had it for years but due to the pandemic last year nothing was coming out to dvd so there was no point. I really missed it. In checking dvd releases I was able to fill up my queue pretty well. At $8 a month, it's basically $2 a movie and there's just nowhere cheaper to see newer release movies. My first one just came, A Quiet Place Pt 2. Should be perfect for Sunday lunch and a movie on a rainy weekend
Mom is doing well, they said she's got no fever, good appetite, just some sniffles and fatigue. I appreciate all the good thoughts!

Shopped today, can't remember what all I hauled home, it's still out in the car but I know it was better than Wednesday's shop day. Mild weather here finally... 71 today and that's what temps will hover around for the next week or so. Stopped at little Walmart to pick up a few things. Definitely some bare shelves. No normal kraft mac and cheese. Only shells, spirals and unicorn shapes. Hopefully next time I go I can stock up and they were out of Fairlife chocolate milk but I was able to score what I needed to make garbage plates for dinner. A new favorite we learned about when Cliff's sister visited from Rochester NY. Can't find the meat sauce here but she sent us a few jars for Christmas.
I've always liked coffee but never made it or had it on any regular basis until Cliff came along. Now I'm addicted and a morning isn't quite right until I've had it.
