I love a cup of coffee in the morning but I can't stand anything that has coffee flavor in it, such as ice cream, creamers, candies, etc. I drink a very light blend of coffee, Breakfast Blend with extra light cream, cannot stand the heavy coffees you get from Starbucks. I can't drink them.

I never go to Starbucks, but they came out with a pistachio latte that I tried on Wed. $5.57 for a small "grande" and it tasted like coffee. Nope, never again. Online it was supposed to be $3.50, but somehow that changed.

Val, I like the spring-like background! Wishful thinking around these parts the next 2 or 3 months. I was trying for a Valentine's pink background but I couldn't get a color combination that would also work on phone screens. So I took the lazy way out I really like it. Much easier to read than the last one.

I was just on the Starbucks site on FB when they announced it. All of us were complaining since it doesn't taste like pistachio. It wasn't bad, but not worth it.
I expected it to taste like pistachio ice cream tastes.
Maybe if it cost $1, I would get it again....

Yea, I was reading about that - looking at the photos, it would be like living in a conference center. Well, I love coffee (espresso) as strong as possible. But I also don't like coffee IN things, and I don't like things, except for some milk, IN my coffee, either. Never the twain shall meet. The confections at Starbarks just have no appeal to me at all. They make good shaken ice tea, though. I like roasted coffee beans in dark chocolate, though. I used to bring a pack of those with me on those ultra-endurance bike events I did - more than once a pack of those kept me going through a very looooong night on the road. I would also be disappointed if something advertised as being pistachio flavoured was not. Starbarks had something that was a "unicorn' whatever some years back - made a big splash and was quite beautiful, but I never tried it.

Hey, it's Kentucky--they don't get snow like you guys do up north! That area happens to be where my mother hailed from, and I joked with my sister I was surprised there were 75 cars in the same area at the same time. It's been a while since I've been to that part of Kentucky, though, so things may have changed.

I like large, modern houses that look like museums, but that one's too big even for me. Right around 9K sq feet would be perfect now that we're older. I was getting hives just looking at all the property managers you'd need to keep up with that thing. I had the the Unicorn drink once. It was yummy (of course, cuz it was all sugar), but nothing I'd order a 2nd time. I actually go mainly for the non-coffee drinks (my fave lately is the Mango Dragonfruit Refresher) & the occasional Frappucino. But I also find Starbucks coffee WAY too strong & I also prefer Gloria Jeans & their flavors which are on the beans, instead of just syrup poured in.

Some of the worst coffee I've ever bought has been at Starbucks. Everything is so automated. You may get good coffee, or bad burnt stuff. I think a lot has to do with how the machines are maintained - if they're due to be serviced, you're going to get burnt junk because there is NO art to making the actual cup at Starbucks, it's all just push a button and the stuff squirts out. If the machines are well maintained, you'll get better coffee. The absolute worst coffee I ever had was at a Starbucks in Chelsea London - I realised then why it was full of American tourists - no local would have gone there - London has its own locals with good coffee. I actually poured the stuff out it was so bad, and I was headed to work and needed the caffeine! I got something better at Cafe Nero.
Still, they have that good shaken ice tea and their help is always nice. If you pick and choose you can find good baked goods, and depending you can get good coffee at some of the outlets, but it's the McDonald's of the coffee world so, whatever.

Does anyone else find it amusing we have National Eat Beans Day, then National Pass Gas Day and now National Bubble Bath Day?

They opened a Dutch Brothers in my town before covid hit. I like coffee sweetened but the only time I drove through to try one of their creations it was over the top sweet. I guess you can order 1/2 sweet or to your liking, but for the most part I would rather eat my calories rather than drink them. There is always a long line there, day or night. If I go to a local coffee shop I generally order chai latte.
Coffee & tea making can be as much a ritual as the act of drinking it. When I was using a Moka pot I enjoyed the process.

...I was able to score what I needed to make garbage plates for dinner. A new favorite we learned about when Cliff's sister visited from Rochester NY. Can't find the meat sauce here but she sent us a few jars for Christmas. I had to look up "garbage plate." It's a Rochester specialty www.thespruceeats.com/famous-garbage-plate-rochester-new-york-101383

When his niece told us about the garbage plates I thought that she meant food served on a garbage can lid until she explained exactly what they were. Made them last night with turkey burgers, baked beans and mac salad drizzled with meat sauce. Not all that healthy but they were good and easy. Haven't been in much of a cooking mood lately.

It's interesting that the article called the dish 'bizarre' when I've seen it all my life and it's probably centuries old. Especially young college kids - you pile everything on a plate and dump ketchup or hot sauce or whatever on it. I've seen it in Australia and England, too. It's a way of eating as much as anything - it can be a tasty way to eat leftovers.
It stopped raining and no one knows what to do lol. Still cold and gray but, no wet stuff. We might see some sun tomorrow. My knee now bends again (my running friend's dog sacked me Tuesday evening when we were running) and I'll try a few steps tomorrow.

We did our second work party for a club we belong to. Have to do one each year for the first 4 years. We found the winter ones are a bit more our style. I signed up for cleaning the clubhouse inside. Hubby also signed up for an inside detail. Some people were bums and others worked. We both worked hard. He was mad because when he was done, their group went outside. He had on his long johns but signed up inside for a reason.
I cleaned bathrooms and vacuumed the indoor outdoor rugs. Figured it involved the least amount of heavy duty stuff. Also easier to keep distanced. We are done until next January. A friend paid $100 instead. With two of us, it is rather expensive. Easier to do 2 hours or so of work.
Getting ice before I go to work tomorrow. Ugh. Supposed to be gone by then.

I got a new computer for Christmas and finally got around to clearing off and deep cleaning my desk. It took DH until midnight to finally notice (and it was a real transformation). He set everything up this morning so I'm still getting used to looking for things that have moved. For whatever reason, my printer died. Between figuring this out and my new cellphone, I'm on technology overload and I'm very non-techie. I'm sure once I get used to it, I'll be fine. It's so much faster than my old one and fingers crossed I'll no longer get the too frequent "not responding" and circle spinning. So whoo hoo to a new toy to play with.

That place would make an AWESOME luxury hotel, although I doubt you'd be able to get the permit to turn it into one.

It took a bit to get my Lenovo desktop running. The wireless is not but I could plug the cable into a mesh. I am hoping they update something as I am not the only one with the wireless issue.
The new ones are fast!

WTH with this weather? Wed night/Thurs AM about 1" of snow. Yesterday we broke records with 68 degrees & it was SO nice, but it's January! Today 54 until around 5pm, when we get another brief round of snow. It just can't figure out what it wants to be.

The bad part is when temps drop and rain turns to ice. Snow wouldn't bother me as much if 50s or 60s were in the forecast. Today we'll be lucky if it gets into the teens with windchill.

A neighbor down the street had a brunch for us "dog walking ladies" this morning. There were 4 of us, one had to beg off. We had such a nice time! We are all ladies of a certain age and all love our pups so it was a nice gathering. We had 2 kinds of quiche, tater tot casserole, fresh fruit, and mimosas. We are all vaccinated and one just recovered from a break through infection. A very nice time.
Mom is doing well, still very mild case and no fever and good appetite.
The weather is back and forth here, too. The high yesterday was low 50s and windy. Today it's 76, rainy, and humid as hell. Tomorrow warm and rainy again, and then another cold front. Every week I do the wash and there's jackets and shorts together

It's time to "spring-up" the balcony. I bought some Chinese lanterns to hang out there instead of flower baskets. I doubt the patio gets enough light for the solar light part to work, but if the green color pictured is at all accurate, the color will still look nice during the day. www.amazon.com/dp/B097NW26SJ?psc=1&smid=A2GRELBAMDUEEZ&ref_=chk_typ_imgToDpNo real flowers for me this spring/summer. They attracted so many bugs last year I couldn't use the patio So this year it's fake plants and fun patio lights. I bought this last year in yellow: It takes up a lot of space, so I ended up putting it in storage last year in order to hang up the fern and flower baskets, thinking I'd put it back out after Christmas, for spring, before the baskets come out. This time, it's staying up all summer. Looks great and doesn't attract bugs. If I put any flowers out, they'll be fake. Now I just have to decide if I want to leave the multi-color Edison lights up, or replace them with clear lights. Decisions, decisions

Friday at 68 degrees was NICE! Had the doors open at the gym, no jacket, nice! It's snowing now. The 50's are the nicest part of winter here. I grew up where you are & in MN, so I feel your pain, this up & down is what keeps the snow from ever really sticking here. That & the UV Rays. 300+ days of sunshine & even at 21 degrees, the snow from Thursday was melted by the time I got up around noon. Gotta move out West girl

I agree with Zoe. Winters in ABQ were NICE. I remember once when my mom called. She asked how the weather was and I said it was nice and sunny and I had the front door open. She thought for a second, and then asked, "doesn't it get cold there this time of year?" (it was January). It does, but 50ish degrees when it's sunny, no wind and no humidity is nice and yeah, you can actually have the door open. I had a stucco walled patio so it asorbed the heat of the sun and was really nice in the winter.

I would never want to live there, but the weather is beautiful & so is some of the scenery. Honestly, the whole SW has great winter weather. Summers can be a bitch though. Also, altitude matters.

I need some firm pillows to stuff my bed shams with. I had some nice Serta pillows, but I ended up converting them to regular bed pillows because they're the perfect height for side sleepers. So far, all the "extra firm" pillows I've tried at the stores haven't been firm, much less extra firm. Online reviews of pillows weren't much better. Just as I was about to give up, what do I discover but... Wait for it.... A "jumbo sham stuffer" pillow. Reviews indicate it will do just what I need it to do - fluff out the shams and not collapse. I wouldn't have thought to google "sham stuffer pillow"
