Well, I didn't hear anything from the vet when they closed so I am assuming that the ACS lady picked her up after her therapy.
Shadow went to her new home yesterday so she is finally settled.

I hope Dandelion gets better. She looks like a sweetheart.
And yay for Shadow's new home!

Dandy is a sweet lil kitteh and never lost her mind no matter how many baths I gave her every day.
She has the sweetest little face and will do that cocking of her head when she knows that you are talking to her.

Will the ACO give you an update? I am sure she will if I ask her for one. I haven't been in contact with her since she picked up Dandy.

Yippee on Shadows new home! Paws still all crossed for Dandy. Nerve damage to elimination systems can come back, it's just really really slow to regenerate. Thank you so much for giving her all the help & therapy.

Yes - nerve regeneration, even in a young 'un, I'd give it a year of consistent patience. I know, that's a long time.

Yes, that is a long time. A very long time.
It is bad enough when she is a kitten but as she gets bigger and more active, it is going to be a trial for sure.

That growth phase may help, though - I don't know. I'm thinking that in her stage of life the nerves may regenerate faster, and now is the time. It took well over a year for the nerve damage in my hip and pelvis to finally repair itself. I began to think it never would as the progress was so incremental.

I just checked the HS website and Tucker has already been adopted. I wouldn't be surprised if he was adopted by somebody at the shelter because they loved him.
Dandelion didn't make it. She started developing a UTI on top of everything else and the vet said that would be a recurrent issue.
It was also like she was getting so frustrated at not being able to do the kitten things that she wanted to do.
We gave her all the chances that we had the power to give. She was such a sweet girl.

Dandy had a herd of cats and kittens waiting for her at the Bridge.
She is now running around on 4 legs with all the other kittens and that makes me happy for her.

And she gets to poo and pee wherever and whenever SHE chooses! You and the ACS gave her a good chance, Kritter, and she was coddled and cared for every minute. When she comes back for her next life it's going to be the best cat life ever. She's earned it. (((Dandelion)))

Thank you, ahrn. For the rest of my life, I intend to be the best CCL eveh!
We were both with her to send her to the Bridge. From beginning to end.....
I used to work with this ACS when we both worked at the shelter. I left before she did and she and I didn't part on good terms. She has worked as the city's (It is an incorporated city surrounded by the city of San Antonio) ACS for 5 years and we never spoke until she posted about Shadow and then Dandelion on Nextdoor. I contacted her and offered to help and we just took up again like the other incident never happened.
She is doing a really good job as ACS and I told her so.

Kritter, I'm so sorry to hear about Dandy. She had her very best chance with you; nobody could have done more. As I've said many times before, I admire you so much for being willing to take on the job of Kitten Guardian Angel, knowing that it has the potential to break your heart every single day.... Since the little furry ones can't actually talk, I'll say it for them, "Thank you!"

Thank , Sista Tabby.
When I went in Wednesday morning to pick up Tucker at the vet's office for the Humane Society appointment, my vet came out and asked how Dandy was doing. I told her what we had decided and thanked her for everything that she had done. She started apologizing for suggesting the laser therapy since it hadn't worked. I told her that I was glad it was suggested and glad we tried the treatment because I knew in my heart we had done everything possible to give Dandy a chance. That is what is important to me.
I told her that is why she is my vet. I know she will give me all the options available and we can go from there.

But you still need to keep an eye out for that nice widow lady at HEB, Kritter. She's pretty much a necessity now that you're at full capacity.

Dandy had the best life she ever could! It would not have been so good going forward with all of those complications, so she went with love and goodness.

I always keep an eye out for anybody with a couple of 16 lb. bags of cat chow in their cart along with single serve food portions.
Chap you are right. I am just glad that we found her and she did not suffer. She knew she was loved.

I am just glad that we found her and she did not suffer. She knew she was loved. I meant to post to this thread earlier. I'm so sorry about Dandy, but the above is what matters in her little life. Years ago while trapping ferals behind my apartment buildings I got a cat I knew was tame but shy. He was very sick with a URI and when I had him neutered I also asked that they test him so I could get him to a rescue group. I went to pick him up and they had him anesthetized but hadn't done his surgery yet and told me he had tested + for FeLV. They wanted to put him down right then while he was still under, the vet came out and lectured me on putting him back outside (which wasn't going to happen regardless - I was still new and thought I could save them all) and finally agreed to do the surgery and release him back to me. I drove to a park to wait for him to be ready to pick up and stared at the river not knowing what I was going to do. In the end I decided that even if I couldn't find a place for him and had to take him to be pts at least he wasn't going to go abandoned and sick and unloved. I did find that widowed retired nurse Petti speaks of - she had something like 20 cats, several with FeLV who lived in her living room, separated from the other cats with french doors, and others with a variety of problems too. Under the circumstances it was a good set up for him. I kept him at my work for about a week to treat him for the URI so he didn't make her other immuno-compromised cats sick. He was a good boy.

Emerald, it never gets any easier to make that call.
Thank goodness there are a lot more rescues for FIV and FeLV cats now plus the shelters here will even put positive cats up for adoption with full disclosure.
And they get adopted. Probably to those widowed retired nurses that troll the shelters looking for the broken kittehs that they can help. Or to somebody who wants a friend for their positive cat. Things have come along way since the early days when euthanasia was the go to for the less than purrfect cats.
Poor Dandelion was just too broken but I am so glad that we could do what we did for her even if it didn't work in the end.

I had been following this thread. I'm so sorry Dandelion didn't make it, you and everyone did all you could for her. She has her kitteh angel wings now, welcoming the new kits that have made their way to the rainbow bridge. Letting them go is one of the hardest things we have to do for them, but the most kindest and loving.
