That in mid 2017 Ebay will begin to turn off Active content with links to preview what your listing will look like when they do? I just saw it one of mine. From what I'm understanding they are finally blocking templates etc starting mid 2017. Flash, java etc. It also has a link to this page: pages.ebay.com/sell/itemdescription/bestpractices.htmlMaybe you guys have already seen it, first time I've seen it in mine. My listing looked exactly the same in the preview mode because I don't have any templates etc so nothing I need to worry about.

Where is this preview mode you're talking about?

Where is this preview mode you're talking about? It was along the top of my listing above my IS in a banner. My paint is missing on my computer now, I just have Fresh paint showing and have no idea how to make a screen shot with it so I can upload it to PB and post it here. Anyone know?

I use a very plain template thru InkFrog and the preview shows that the only thing that will change is they will remove the gallery of my items from the bottom of the listing. The template itself remains and stays the same.
I can live with that. I actually back out of listings that have video and music and don't mind at all that they are getting rid of them.

What a flashback to the days of opening a listing and Christmas carols started playing immediately at full blast. I couldn't back out of them fast enough.

Shirley-my eBay $300 rep told me to get rid of the pictures in my description that IF inserts. Any idea how to get rid of those?
I found how to take the scrolling thing off the bottom, but I don't know what preferences they are talking about to save first.
I first got the Active content thing yesterday afternoon. Got an email first about it, showing a relisted item.

Denise, from what you have posted I doubt that rep knew what they were talking about. The things they told you were total garbage.
IF doesn't just insert pics willy nilly into a listing, YOU chose the template to use so they put the pics in the listing in accordance to the template format that you chose.
IF has templates that put pics at the top, or bottom, or middle, or sides of the listings. Personally I prefer having my pics to the left side of the listing so while people are reading the listing they can easily see the pics and not have to scroll up or down to look at them.
I think they also have templates that don't have pics in the listing but I would never use one of those. I want the pics in the listing, it backs up the description and has helped a few times when people claimed "I didn't know it was xxx", because the pic of whatever was right there in the listing.

They want you to get rid of the scrolling gallery cause that's done by flash. Since you changed that setting, you're fine.

You just need to change to a different template that doesn't have a pic option in it.
But I don't know what they mean by "saving my preferences".
That means that after you make a change you need to click on the Save Preferences button to save those changes. In this case when you do it immediately removes the "Showcase" as they call it from your listings.

Dumb question....Since eBay will remove (apparently) the pictures in my IF listings, I won't have to do that myself riight? I have 2 sets of pics and it seems that the one set will remain instead of two.

Denise I wouldn't trust Ebay to block them for you, it might totally trash the way your listing looks or they may drop your listings down to the bottom of searches since they don't meet standards. They are giving lots of notice so I would email whoever you use and see if there is an easy way to fix them all at once. All of the different providers like IF, SSB etc knew this was coming for a long time so they should be ready with a solution for their clients to easily make all their available templates up to code. They shouldn't expect their clients to do all the work.

Denise, why do you think ebay will be removing your pics? Because that stupid CS told you so? They told you a lot of things, and none of them appear to be based on facts.
You have pics in the gallery section of your listing and pics in the body of the listing. Did you bother to take a minute and use the tool ebay has so you can see what your listings will look like under the new format? If you had then you would see that pics in the body of the listing are NOT going anywhere.
The only thing they are removing is active content, (like the scrolling showcase at the bottom) and NOT plain pics. The CS you talked to was full of crap and you are getting in a tizzy for no reason at all. Relax, take a deep breath and stop drinking the damn CS kool-aid.

I sent an email to IF asking them about this. It is just the thought of changing 1,900 listings that gets to me. I did remove the scrolling thing. And the eBay rep (special number for achors) pointed out that my pics are in my listings and on the upper left.
When I use the test that eBay sent, it does show only one set of pics.
So my question to IF was to ask if I need to do anything with those pics in my listings? I don't even know why they ar there....seems IF put them in themselves.
Yeah I get all bent out of shape since next year I might be in really bad shape and I want to do all that I can now while I still can.

Got my answer-that was fast and was what I was afraid of. In my new listings, I will turn off the option in each listings, but will let the other ones go.
Hello Denise15601
Yes at that time they will strip all invalid content from the listing pages from being displayed on their site. If you would like to make the update before hand you are able to turn off the description images option directly within your listings pages at inkFrog, it is a one by one process. I'm sorry we do not have a bulk edit option available for this option.

I just looked at your listings using the tool and your pics are still there under the new changes.
There is NO reason to remove the pics.
Yes at that time they will strip all invalid content
You have NO, repeat NO invalid content.

I have 2 sets of pics in my current listings. One set to the upper left from eBay and those in my description.
Looks like eBay will remove one set which is fine. She was talking also about the cell phone ability to access the info quicker.
I did not call her about Active content. I was having trouble making my lovely eBay monthly payment.

She said she has 2 sets of pics in the listing and only 1 set shows up when she uses the tool so one will be stripped after the site update. IF also confirmed those pics would be blocked. So there must be some pics that are in violation in some of her listings.

All 1,900 of my listings have 2 sets of pics. They are in Javascript which is a no-no.

Is there even a way to edit it out of the current ones without redoing the listing? Like when you had down time you could do a handful here or there, they aren't making the change until next year so even 10 at a time would get them done eventually with the ones that would sell by then too. But can they be edited easily?

Okay....of course this is totally weird. I just made a new listing and turned off the description button. So in my listing preview, the pictures do not show up in the description.
But on eBay, they do show up-one set of pictures. Fine and good.
Sooooo I checked 5 more of my active listings in IF to change them, but the description button IS off, BUT both sets of pictures show up on eBay.
I give up. Whatever happens will happen.

Yep I wouldn't worry about it, just keep listing and deal with it later, you tried. It may turn out it's not an issue at all so no point in stressing over it now.

Right-I did my best.
It is hard to forget the nightmare that I had a few years ago when I had to change all 900 of my listings one by one. Forget why.

Denise - You'll be fine if you get rid of just the active content. Anything else - what happens will happen, who knows what ebay will be doing in 2017. Whatever you list and revise now, you can change what you need to change. I hated those scrolling galleries (though they were OK at the bottom where I could ignore them) - I'll be glad to see them gone, but some active content was helpful - James in the other group sells vintage vinyl and was able to put small soundbites in his listings, and Brian who sells all sorts of things was able to embed a Youtube showing the item working, how to turn it on, etc. This is value-added so it seems a shame to lose it.
But it's a security risk, and eBay isn't very good at that security stuff.
And Unknown is right - CSS and HTML language won't hurt anything - it's just organising markup and photos are just part of that. It's the whizz-bang stuff that's the problem.
