Yes, jeans do hold it in a bit, but that's why I find them uncomfortable. But I always wear tunics to cover the elastic. My usual outfit is the elastic Chico's pants, a shell and a Chico's jacket.
It now occurs to me that since I only have loose and flowy summer tops, I can now shop in my store for smaller sizes. Although hypoglycemia is a curse, I finally can no longer cheat on my diet for fear of getting sick and fainting.

Is it just me, or do you agree that for older ladies with a little bit of a "front porch" , most jeans will hold your stomach in a bit, where an elastic waist seems to just accentuate a stomach bulge? Definitely a hard "yes" on that statement. Elastic waist pants have a gathering or some kind of effect right in the stomach area. If I have jeans where the waist is a little big, I throw on a belt that keeps me from having to pull them up all day.

Back in the day when I thrifted for ebay, I tried some Chico pants that I bought for resale. That material is just too slinky and weird feeling for me. There is no bulge control to it at all so I felt like I looked heavier than I wanted to look. I like more form fitting clothes. Plus there are no pockets and I have to have pockets.

Ah pockets....too bad my pants don't have them. These pants would never work with a short top, or a blouse that tucks in.

MIL has always been skinny except tummy bulge she hid wearing loose fitting tops. Noticed once she bent over that she was wearing maternity jeans with elastic waist. She was well past child bearing so I asked if she realized those were maternity pants and she said she didn't care because they were comfortable.

I am not a handbag person so I have to have pockets.
Loose fitting/flowy tops always make me feel bigger instead of hiding anything. Like just a big blob under them.

With an elastic waistband, I don't have to unbutton my pant waist after a big meal....

I've never had to unbutton anything after a meal, but wear baggy UFOs that sit on my hips so that might not have come into the picture. I will not wear pants with spandex or elastic of any kind unless they're the track pants I work out/run in. No tight pants.
Fit is a strange thing as everything fits everyone differently. I wear young men's pants (Pflug, UFO, etc.) and zip-up knit running shirts, but I'm pretty much just straight up and down. Misses pants don't fit me at all - juniors did OK until they dropped the waistband to plumbers' butt level.

I like tops that are a bit longer but not anything that is loose, billowy, and flowing. Just a regular relaxed-fit top, not a tailored-fit top. If I wear loose fitting pants without a zipper I feel like I'm "unsupported". It feels like I'm wearing PJ bottoms during the day. I like wearing my jeans, they have just a hint of stretch and they zip up and make me feel "pulled in" if that makes sense. I wear my jeans, mock turtlenecks and a cardigan sweater with pockets most of the time during the winter. I stopped with my shoulder handbag after I had rotator cuff surgery years ago, went with a wristlet back then and never looked back. I can fit my credit cards, license, medication and a few other small things in there. I keep my cell phone in the car when I'm out shopping so I don't worry about carrying that around with me, but can cram it into the wristlet if I need to.

Stick me in with the jeans crowd. I don't wear any other type of pants, except for a pair of scrubs bottoms when we're watching TV. Jean shorts in the summer, flannel lined when it gets below 20°. And t-shirts all year round. It may be boring but I rarely have to decide "what am I going to wear?" LOL

I've just carried a small pouch for as long as I can remember, probably about wristlet size - I used to carry everything in my pockets but my key ring got too big and started worrying a hole through my coat pockets.
