I have been going through all the NWT clothing I bought over the last couple of years and there is some really nice stuff that should sell well. I am thinking about listing them, but I want to get them up as quickly as possible. When I sold clothing, I always listed with measurements, but considering the time involved in both doing the measuring and listing in general, I'm considering listing them without. I've been in the game long enough to know the implications of this, but am leaning towards taking the risk. This would be on one of my secondary accounts, not my main one.
Does anyone here list without measurements and, if so, how has it worked out in for returns due to size?

I'm seeing a lot of sellers taking pics with measuring tape across chest and length that seems to be a pretty quick way to list and still give buyer pertinent info. As a buyer, I like it.

I have always listed measurements since it only takes a minute or two to do so. On the discussion groups this always comes up and the vast majority agree that measurements are needed. And a lot of buyers skip over the items without measurements.

That would be me. I used to contact the seller and ask for measurements but now I just move on.
I don't sell that much anymore but when I did, I always put measurements. Bust and length for dresses and a few more for pants. Only takes minutes.

The only clothing items that I wouldn't list measurements for, were infant items, since babies grow so fast. But now I do since I have had several inquiries about the size.
Considering the time that it takes to hunt up an item for measurements, it would have saved a lot of time to list them in the first place.

Me! I don't list measurements and I don't accept returns. I get a few requests for measurements and I sometimes provide them, sometimes I don't. If I do, they RARELY buy.
They only thing I do measure is vintage items.
Does it likely cost me some sales? I'm sure. But I don't rely on this to pay my bills so I am okay with it.

I measure most stuff. I do the tape measurement in the pic and will actually type it out if it seems outside of the norm i.e. small or oversized. I always measure Free People. Their stuff is all over the place.
I feel like nothing is standard anymore.
I don't usually measure pajamas. When I sold Lularoe things I didn't measure them. Seems like people know their size in Lularoe.

Thank you all for the input and advice. I know it only takes minutes, but those are minutes I truly don't have right now. Going through a lot of personal stuff, which is one of the reasons I haven't really been around lately.
I think I'm going to list and then when I have a little more time, go in after they are listed and add measurements.

If your brands are well known and you have a number of the same brand, you might consider taking a screen shot of their size chart and just using that in a photo - so if you have like 5 items from Brand R, just plonk it into the listing. New items in really well known brands might not be as critical.

The length of jeans and pants is important.

Mens are a lot easier than women’s stuff. Unless one knows what they wear in “X” brand clothes it is hit or miss for us. Men’s stuff is predictable. I usually only buy “replacements” or similar items in another color on eBay but that is just me.

From my experience those generic brand charts for women's clothes for every style that they make are wishful thinking. If I see a new something that I want, I come to Ebay and hope to find the item and then hope the seller has put actual measurements in the listing especially for the under arm to underarm measurement.
Using that brand chart would trigger a SNAD with me if I bought something and the actual measurements did not match to what that chart indicated.

Measurements are especially important for preowned items. How else would you know if someone has shrunk it? Or really, really stretched it out?
I'm the same as Kritter - if there aren't measurements, I just hit the back button.

If it were me I'd grab a yardstick and insert pix of pit to pit as well as a length from either center front or shoulder to hem. That should take just a few seconds and minimize time futzing around with a tape measure. As long as your photos are zoomable anyone interested can see the actual measurement.

I put measurements in all my clothing listings, new and used, except for infant stuff. I do not buy from anyone who does not have measurements in their listings, because in my past experience, if I request measurements, either the seller gets an attitude or never responds at all. Just as an example, I have 4 pairs of Levis 515 size 12 and the inseam, rise, and waist measurement are different on every single one. If I'm buying, I need a specific inseam length which is not the usual length for this model.

When I was listing all those NWT Fresh Produce tops that I scooped up last year, it seemed lke every different pattern of the same style top had a different bust measurement. Some of the differences were as much as 2" which could make a difference in whether the top fits or not.
The FP dresses are even worse. Fortunately these is an ebay NWT FP seller who has measurements in all her listings. If a FP dress was on sale on the FP website and I considered buying it, I would check the ebay seller's listings for that dress in my size to check the measurements. The FP measurement chart on their website is rubbish.

I wear a lot of men's clothing because women's frequently does not fit, and I can tell you that they are not predictable.
Chart measurements are for body measurements, not clothing measurements - so they are not going to match. One doesn't use a generic chart IAC - only those actually published for that particular brand.

Perhaps I can get one of the kids to measure things while I'm at work. I'll just give one of them a batch of about 10 items and a spreadsheet to record the measurements onto. That will also allow me to just take pictures of those 10 items and get them listed.
Thank you all for your input. Always appreciated.

Good idea. If you ever have to dig up an item just to measure it for a possible buyer, you will see what a PITA it can be. Especially since they will probably not buy it.
Also, if you have several tops of the same brand in the same size, you only have to measure one of them.
I hope that your personal stuff gets better for you.

I would venture to guess things will get back on track about 4-6 months from now. Until then, I am just taking things day by day. I'm changing the living room around this weekend and going to try to create more space, which isn't easy considering what I'm working with but I just keep telling myself that it can't get any worse

Size chart measurements are BODY MEASUREMENTS for the size in question, not the measurements of the garment. Otherwise (for example) every single top, jacket, and overcoat in the same brand, in every single cut they make, would have the identical bust measurement, which would be completely absurd.

Kritter is still correct though. Even using the manufacturer size charts as they're meant to be - by body measurement - they never work for me. Never. They might work for small size ladies but the manufacturer plus size charts are a joke.

I put up some stuff last night with measurements for chest and length. Are there any other measurements that are necessary? When I list some pants, I plan on doing waist and inseam. Any others on pants?
Thanks!

I am guilty of putting too much in my descriptions. On tops, I list bust, shoulder, sleeve inseam and length. Also waist if there is a seam there. For pants...waist, hips, front rise, inseam and bottom opening.

For pants...waist, hips, front rise, inseam and bottom opening. I don't think there can be too many measurements for me. Last night I was looking at Fresh Produce dresses and any ones that I clicked on that did not have bust and lenght measurements, I passed on by. Even though I usually wear a medium in FP, their different styles are tricky on fit.

Any others on pants? Thanks! For women's pants also do the hips - use the line just below the zipper. For women's dresses the hips - roughly 26-27" or so below the shoulder, or if the dress has a defined shape when you lay it out, measure at the widest part.

Thank you. I'll add shoulder and sleeve measurements to the tops I listed last night and when I get to pants I'll do waist, hips, inseams, rise and bottom opening. Here is one listing, feedback? www.ebay.com/itm/385431548199?hash=item59bd82b127:g:ZLUAAOSwnZVj9EPhI also have a black torso form and wondering if that might look better on some of the lighter color shirts. Jeez, I haven't done clothing in so long, but I've sold a couple of the shirts already. I took an $80 offer on the Burberry one and they backed out PS- I know some are put off by the terms and stuff in the listing, but I wanted them all in there...not sure why.
