I've never sold jewelry before, but I'm branching out into costume jewelry. I'm excited! I have a good little bit to start with but I have to wait til my necklace displays come in. I'll be placing another order in a couple of weeks. I didn't order just a ton to start out with til I saw the quality.
Some of it is Cheap Charlie's quality I'll sell for $10 each, and some is nicer quality I can get a little more for.
I have several colors of a lot of it, I just have to decide now whether to do a listing for each color of do a multi item listing (which I've never done before).

I'm about to lot up a bunch of cat jewelry and set it loose on Ebay.
I am just clearing the shelves here before a dumpster is a necessity.

I've never done jewelry, so this is a new experience for me. One of the places I got it from is really nice, all presented in padded boxes.

One of the best things about selling jewelry is that most of it can be mailed First Class. I've sold a lot of jewelry over the years, mostly my own While the boxes are nice, I prefer to use small jewelry ziplock bags (purchased on ebay). I wrap a layer of bubble wrap around those, then mail in a padded envelope. It weighs next to nothing and I have never had a complaint about broken jewelry. And I've sold a hundred or more pieces. If I can be of any help, don't hesitate. Best of luck with your new venture!

Thank you! I just realized the in the first post I said "Cheap Charlies" and I meant "Charming Charlies". I went ahead and placed another small order today of the better quality stuff.
I bought some 4x6 padded manila envelopes, planning on using them but they look so nice in the boxes, I'm not sure what I will do. I'm especially concerned about the bracelets breaking since they are about an inch wide.
Thank you for offering to help, I'm sure I'll need it!

Consider selling it on Facebook or Bonanza. The market here is oversaturated and its a very difficult category to search in (as a buyer). Add to it that jewelry buyers are rarely repeat buyers. And depending on where you're buying from, you may see a lot of sellers on eBay selling the saem stuff. Or that was my experience when I added it to my product line on eBay. That was about 2 years ago, when I finally pulled it all, so maybe it's better now and you'll have better luck.
OTOH, you should do well with it if you have any local shows you go to. I sold more locally than I did online, and locally, even had repeat buyers. Go figure.

When I had items that I preferred to ship in the boxes, I just wrapped the boxes in a layer of small bubble wrap and put the whole thing into the padded envelope. I expect some of the boxes got damaged, but no one complained. I bought larger padded poly envelopes, 6 x 9 I think. Most bracelet boxes will fit in them if you angle them a bit. I also keep some some smaller (4 x 6?) envelopes around for earrings, rings, etc. But in a pinch, I'll use the larger envelopes and fold them over. Gives another layer of bubble protection. I probably overdo it, but I get paranoid about damage, especially when I was selling my good jewelry.

I sell quite a bit of costume jewelry with some sterling pieces, etc. The main thing is photos and a mini lightbox might help you. get a variety also and some looks cheaper so price it cheap too, haven't really had any complaints on the jewelry and it seems to boost sales. Good luck, and if you need anything feel free to PM me.

Thanks all, I'm definitely selling the cheaper pieces on Facebook. Definitely. I think. lol I've ordered more of the nicer stuff and I'm gonna give it a go but might end up on facebook. I just don't want someone buying a $5 necklace and expecting $50 quality, which is liable to happen. There's not a good way to say "this is cheaply made". Like this piece. It's so lightweight I'm not sure the chain is metal and I think the beads must be hollow. And this one: It looks great, and I'm keeping a couple in different color. But the flower is fastened on with the tiniest piece of a clear rubber band.

I buy my small ziplocks either at Wal Mart or or one of the Craft supply box stores. Some of the box stores now also carry displays and boxes. I buy boxes on ebay, mostly because I will not ship any jewelry outside of flat charms or simple chains in anything but a box. I have bought jewelry that was broken or otherwise ruined by passing through a sorting machine with only a padded envelope as protection.

Hit Dollar Tree for jewelery boxes too. I used to get sets of 3 for $1.

I've sold quite a bit of jewelery too and I always ship everything is a little box. It's too easy for things to get crushed and for people to complain. Especially if you have something like a bracelet that won't go flat. Good luck! I think selling jewelry is fun and easy!

Well the first of my jewelry is up! I know I need to work on my pictures. It's blurry without the flash and reflective with it. I need one of those photo boxes. What are they called?
Some of the cheaper stuff was falling apart while I was taking pics of it! DEFINITELY not ebay material. I'm gonna sell them for $3 each on facebook or 4 for $10 lol

I like your jewelry pics, and I personally don't mind the glint of flash on the pieces. Makes them look sparkly to me!

Thank you Sunset!
So far the jewelry sales are exactly nada. Not even any watchers. Maybe I'm too high. I went in a little boutique in town yesterday and my stuff is at least the quality theirs was for less of a price.
Or maybe I just have terrible taste lol

I read a tip once to fit a cut down piece of poster board like a U shape in the microwave as a makeshift lightbox.

I've used a small white styrofoam cooler as a lightbox.

I have also used an empty large, translucent water container, cut the top off and lay it on it's side
make holes to string fishing line through to hold up necklaces and pendants
I love selling jewelry! it is so easy to ship, and one size fits most.
easy to store it also.
