I have no idea and haven't had time to look into it. I'm only 9 minutes into the 40 minute interview that took place yesterday. I need to stop and get the morning routine done and will be back after that. I hate to ask what it means. eBay sucks anymore.
Simplified search probably means another bump for retail stores in the search engine.

Really? Becasue I'm doing better than ever.
Whatever he's talking about, I HOPE that it's a positive, easy change.

Oops, I put 90 days in the title. Meant 60. I'll fix it later.

Compressed? To me that sounds like buyers won't be scrolling through pages of the same item. Just a guess.
I read some of the comments in Ina's article. I agree with the person who said doing this right before Christmas may not be the best idea.
Hopefully this is a positive change.

It also sounds like it will be abbreviated search returns like you see at major retail sites when you view the site on mobile. Sucks on those sites, and will suck on eBay IF that is what it will be.

1. To follow up with my first reply: I do not give eBay a pat on the back for my improvements. I give those to myself. I just wanted to be clear on that. 2. I KNOW! Right before Christmas?
I saw some screenshots on a FB page. I honestly think it's what dantes said. I have a feeling it will effect most of the bigger, NWT, oversaturated (catalog) products. I've seen something similar in the past when searching for cell phones on eBay.
I'll see if I can replicate it or get a screenshot of it. But wait - maybe this isn't exactly what he was talking about and that what was shared on FB is simply the old search in those categories.
I REALLY HOPE IT'S NOT LIKE AMAZON! I hate buying crap on Amazon where I have to figure out who's selling it and at what price and what their shipping is and what their FB is.

Oh, and the rest of the interview was just blah blah blah. It was interesting he did say something along the lines that he wants to keep eBay unique and not morph into Amazon - in not exact words. ETA: and he was asked about the SVP NA change. Why did Hal leave. He was blunt and said he was not going to talk about it but went on about blah blah blah how great change and growth is.....

I hate to ask what it means. eBay sucks anymore. Simplified search probably means another bump for retail stores in the search engine. Great. My guess is it means that it's going to 'intuit' even more about what it thinks the buyer is looking for, rather than what they are really looking for. That's what simplified always seems to mean to Ebay, making it "simpler" for the user. Which would be great if their AI actually used any intelligence. Rather, it will probably mean that search is gonna make even more assumptions for the buyer & further limit their results. Image search is a good thing, if it's implemented well. I guess we'll find out.

I've read that eBay is going to do the Buy Box format like Amazon. Obviously, they can only do this with things listed through the eBay catalog, but it's going to not be very good for sellers like me who list via UPC. I assume it's going to show the lowest price with links to 'other sellers'. They actually do this now to an extent:

I really don't care that they're making "improvements' cause we've survived all their other hair-brained schemes and poorly thought-out innovations. Heck, some of the stuff might even work and help us sellers out. But I totally agree with Val- FTLOG, DON'T CHANGE STUFF RIGHT BEFORE THE HOLIDAYS!!

I wish someone at ebay would follow Amazon's lead in retaining customers. Amazon is a pro at that. Ebay needs to figure out their own way of creating loyal buyers. And their little monetary offerings per item purchased isn't it.
