To wear or for home decor?
It's starting to resemble spring here in Boston (a guy just walked by my home wearing shorts) and I looked in my closet. I saw a sea of black, variations of gray, beige, and a few pops of purple or dark red. and a few white tanks or shirts.
I need a change. My house is done in beige and brown, my clothing is mainly Eileen Fisher and solid (aforementioned) colors.
Last year I updated some of the pillows and planters on my porch; I ditched the beige/brown (seating cushions are that color combo) and added pops of bright green and turquoise-looks good and I want to add more.
I need some pattern/color in my life!

I prefer warm tones in the house (browns, oranges) except my ebay room. That's bright and airy. For clothing I go by season. Lots of darks in the fall/winter lighter/brighter shades in spring/summer.

I decorate in blue, but wear(hopefully slimming) darks and blacks.

I'm much like Denise (but feel I should branch out). Not that I particularly care, i'm guessing most people think I wear the same thing all the time.
then again, I've been wearing jeans most of the winter so I can see why.
and like Discount Diva, my house was mainly warm brown/beige with pops of autumn tones. I'm trying to brighten up my life, especially according to seasons. Definitely made a difference when I change out a few accent items on my porch and looking to bring that indoors and to my personal wardrobe.

I wear blacks and darks year round. It's just what I'm comfortable in. I like greens, yellows, and browns for my home decorating.
My favorite colors are sage green and olive green.

I just bought some colorful scarves to try to liven up my wardrobe. Now I just have to figure out how to tie them & get up the nerve to wear them. Everything in my wardrobe is pretty much jeans, gray & blue. We just painted several rooms harvest gold with avocado green curtains & burnt orange accents - It's a blast from the 70's (I didn't think about that until it was done)

I don't feel so bad now about my dark, monochromatic wardrobe. I did buy a print maxi dress last year for summer-that was a big strtech for me since it wasn't solid color

That is my kitchen that was THE color when exhole and I built our house in 1977. Still have the gold and rust floor, gold counter top and gold stove hood. Will never be able to afford to change any of it. But I do see a lot of kitchens painted gold lately.....Kudos to you for liking those colors!

Not that I liked the gold all that much but my husband is a painter & we got 4 gallons of it for free. I was hoping to pawn it off on the kids when they moved out to their own places. No luck. He had some time off this winter so we repainted the walls that were a really ugly color when we bought the place. The gold is actually pretty much a neutral. I probably could change curtains & accents easily enough.

My favorite color is teal. Though I go through cycles where I like others. Mostly red, purple and hot pink. In my house I prefer neutrals though. I have a gray based green and tan on the walls.
One thing I have learned is that even when you try to branch out, if you arent comfortable wearing something, you will spend the day being uncomfortable and then wont ever wear it again. It is a waste of money IMO.
If you want to add some color, do it in small inexpensive pieces. That way if you decide it really isnt for you, it wont hurt so much to let it go.

Black, black and more black. I do not own a shirt/sweatshirt/tank top in any color other than black. I have worn all black for pretty much the past 30 years. It works for me lol.
Pants I am fine with jeans. Blue jeans. Oddly enough with my love of black I hate black jeans and only wear blue jeans. Or camo pants. LOVE camo<<<----can camo be a color? lol. I wear either the cargo pants or the true army camo pants. I also like the olive green color casual pants/cargo pants. I have some army pants like those too.
Shorts...pretty much any color under the sun with the exception of pink, purple and yellow. I LOVE those slinky type material running shorts with the piping around the legs and have them in a myriad of colors.
I love the color orange and tend to have quite a few of the above mentioned shorts in orange or with orange piping.
As far as home decor I love green. Either the sage green or the dark hunter green. Lurve me the green lol. I also like burgundy and the darker wine colors.
Wood I like dark stains ranging from cherry to dang near black. I hate lighter colored stains.
Oddly enough with my love of dark colors...preferably black.... I do not have a black vehicle. I did have one black vehicle and said never again. I have an odd thing when it comes to me and my trucks. My trucks must be blue. Now the truck I have now is white BUT it has a blue interior so I said that's ok. I have NEVER had a problem with any of the blue trucks I've had lol. Strange though because apart from blue jeans and my mantra of blue vehicles I am not at all fond of the color blue.

Camo (and leopard) are neutrals. Because they match nothing they match everything!
I especially like camo with orange or red.

I prefer neutral, dark, or pastel colors. I don't really do bright colors/prints for much of anything (except ebay shopping).
Once in a great while I will have the urge to wear a bright print but usually my bright stuff hides in the far corner of my closet and doesn't see the light of day. I do really like the mint green/black combo like the background of my avatar.

Turquoise is always good because it adds a nice pop of color to neutrals. I like green or purple too - sometimes even together, but you have to have the right shades to make it work. If your looking to add color to solids you can also try prints. Tribal and aztec are always fun.

I wear lots of magenta, purple and chartreuse/olive green tops, with jeans or black leggings. If I'm wearing a black top I usually add a bright scarf or necklace - too much black makes me look washed out, especially if I'm not wearing makeup. Speaking of scarves (which are a great way to experiment with color), here's a big list of different ways to tie them - with how-to videos: www.scarves.net/scarf-tying-index.htmlEileen Fisher has some good scarf-tying videos, too: And this video is really fun, though a little dizzying to watch! Note: Although I've tried a lot of these, I usually just wrap the scarf around my neck and fuss with it for the rest of the day.

I'm a water sign so I do tend to love to wear all kinds of shades of blues and greens. I love prints too. Pretty watercolor florals-that type of thing. My favorite shirt I own is this one...(it posted at the bottom) I recently redid my living space and bought a turquoise printed rug, painted the walls a very soft gray. Hung grey printed curtains and sheer blue ones. I saw an ad for Pier One and I just fell in love the feel and vibe of the room so I used that as my inspiration for color mixing. I can honestly say I think I have a mix of neutral and colorful in my home. I found a Anthro rug recently at the thrift (WOW) that is a mix of orange and red and it somehow works too. The inspiration photo really helped me if you are looking for a home makeover. It doesn't cost much to paint the walls, buy some new throw pillows and a few accessories.

My favorite color to wear is PINK! I love the color pink (all shades). I also love bright colors like yellow, orange, green and blue. I wear all kinds of wild prints, like paisley or floral.
But, I decorate my house so drab. Browns/blacks with beige walls.

I live in the high desert. Brown. Houses are stucco. More brown. Ugh, ugh, ugh.
I declared WAR! on brown two summers ago and bought two hot pink sling back chairs and a orange/pink striped drink table from Target. Then last year, I added a bright turquoise blue bistro set to the mix on the patio. When the flowers finally get here, it will be a very cheery spot. Even without flowers, the turquoise and hot pink furniture was nice to come home to in the winter. Inside, I have lots of colors from sage and teal blue in the living room to red, teal blue and yellow in the bed room. eBay room is hot rose pink and purple. I love color. The more, the better! My car is lime green.
Favorite color to wear would be a tie between most any shade of purples and the bright sapphire or cobalt blue that's been out the past 2 summers.

For clothing I always wear dark bottoms. Tops my favorite colors are turquoise and pink.
For the house I like muted reds and greens. I like the floors a dark wood. Currently I'm trying to brighten things up with throw pillows. Love the Pottery Barn stuff but it's pricy.

All I can afford is to get the catalog & try the replicate the decor. About half my house & my porch are Pottery Barn inspired.

The great part about owning a dark or monochromatic wardrobe is it's cheap and easy to brighten it up. You don't have to go color crazy. Just add pops of color. Like put a bright printed tank under those EF cardigans, a pretty scarf can totally change the look (although I haven't been able to get into the scarf craze for myself yet). You can keep all your basics and just add a few accent pieces even if it's the jewelry you wear and totally change it up.
That being said my wardrobe at the moment consists mostly of jeans, boots, long sleeve tees. To freaking cold here in the winter to worry about looking pretty, just don't want to die from frostbite. LOL Hopefully this summer I will be back at or near my goal weight and I can buy some pretty fun things to wear.
My house is neutral on the walls with kind of tropical floral drapes I made, they are mostly deeper shades of green and blue on a light beige background (think a tommy Bahama kind of floral). I love them. Then the recliner and couch are brown but we have 2 back to back couches in a deep sea blue to play off the curtains. Found a big area shaggy rug on clearance at lowes last year that has all of the color from the curtains and furniture in it so that kind of ties it all together. Our floor is a deep brown wood.
Kitchen has matching drapes in the dining room and is mostly black, silver and white for the base colors and tile then I have pops of aqua with my kitchenaid mixer and other items. We did the ceiling in there in corrugated tin and put in some metal garage cabinets for a set of 3 uppers. To give it an industrial feel. The dining room is painted in a light textured (sand paint) blue, then the same blue is used in the painted areas of the kitchen like the double oven cabinet. I made one short wall a chalkboard so the kids could draw.
It's still not totally done, need to do the finishing work and remodel the attached laundry room, replace a door etc but I'm happy with it.

Favorite color clothing is white. I wear khaki & blue jeans and capris a lot and white fitted tees. I have some in other colors, but white is my favorite. I love love love burnt orange. Glad to see someone else likes that color.
My house colors are pretty neutral, but I do add accent and mixed colors with accessories - pillows and such.
I guess I'm really boring. haha

Green - kelly, clover, jadeite, mint. I'll wear almost any color but I'm not overly fond of red or blue (unless it is a green-based blue like aqua). I prefer clearer/cleaner colors to more muddied ones. Home I stick with a neutral background (all my walls are the same sand color except the kitchen which is the weird peachish color it was when I bought) and change out linens, pillows, etc. Living room needs more color but I'm not ready to tackle it yet.

What is it with Pottery Barn? It's like they have some kind of mystical powers that force me to love everything in their store.

I've never been in an actual store. Just the catalog does it for me. I totally copied a Christmas tree & twig wreath one year. My screened porch has a copied color scheme, pillows & hanging jar candles. I have to keep requesting catalogs. I think they stop sending them because I don't order anything. Maybe I'll treat myself~
