I have never sold on Amazon as I dont source the type of stuff that sells on there. But every time I hear about what the sellers have to put up with there I wonder why anyone does sell there!
As bad as Ebay is, at least I have a smidgen of control still.

I figured. I love how they tell them how the sellers ASKED for it.

Amazon is completely ridiculous. I always chuckle when someone in the forums says they are leaving eBay for the greener pastures of Amazon...

It's no secret that Jeff Bezos's first, second and third objectives are to please Amazon customers, giving them more stuff at the lowest prices and at faster speeds.
His fourth objective is being the world's second richest asshole.

No way in hell I'd sell on Amazon.
Talked to some sellers at Open who sell there too. I was surprised that they still sell there after hearing their horror stories.
They have about a 20% return rate. A lot of new stuff comes back used. Amazon will only give the seller what they want and nearly any protection to the seller. Add in that their fees are higher.
Talking to successful eBay sellers that sell on other platforms - I'm really really really surprised that they sell there still. I guess keeping their eggs scattered instead of one basket? Makes me grateful that eBay is still an affordable platform to sell on.

I think it comes down to cashing in on a huge market, and also select items will sell there better. Amazon used to be a good platform - I get the feeling they're trying to squeeze out 3rd party sellers, but they're failing miserably as that market is growing faster than FBA.
As for the baskets of eggs - I agree with having more than one venue, but with 4-5 venues at all times, I find it annoying and distracting, and would love to just have ONE eBay store ONE Etsy shop and mirror things on Tradesy (minimal work) though I rarely sell there (I also only have about 60 items now so it's about 1-2 items a month).

I'm a little confused. Is Amazon's current policy to make the buyer ship the return back in every case? If so, then I think sellers would welcome the opportunity to do the - keep it and I'll refund so they don't have to pay the return shipping. Sellers do that on Ebay.
What am I missing here?

There's some exaggeration in response (as their usually is) but the tilt is a little ominous - the seller can have no interaction with the buyer before the item is simply returned - it's taken out of their control completely. And the 'returnless refunds' is something that, sure, should be an option to begin with, but making it an announced program affects perception.
I doubt any 'overwhelming' amount of sellers asked for these, and they really cater to the huge sellers. There are a lot of small 3rd party people on that site.

I've sold on Amazon for several years, though not very much in the last couple of years. I haven't listed over there in a couple years but still have items listed over there and every now and then I have a sale. I never really had a problem with returns, maybe a couple in the years I've been over there. That may be different today if I can became real active over there again.
