That is why I'd put signs all over - so someone doesn't just think she's a mangey stray or feral - if a cat like that were camped out under my deck i most likely wouldn't take her for scanning or to the pound (I would feed her though) because I'd assume she was a throw away and not adoptable.
We have lost pet pages on Facebook here by county and they are pretty successful at reuniting - do you have anything like this? Or neighborhood sites?

She use to be feral?
I lost one of my former ferals, Tory, to lymphoma. A few times he would run outside and then freak. One time I couldn't find him for days. He was discovered across the road under a cattle crossing. He was down there scared to death to come out. I finally got him out and once he came in the house he was himself again. At other times he would run out back and find a car to hide under. It's like he would revert to being a feral again. Once he came back inside, Tory would remember what it was like to have a home and people to love. Very strange.
I wonder if Bubby is hiding close by and ignoring you. That's what Tory would do to us. I love my ferals, but they can be strange ones.

@dantes her mother was feral but I think the kittens were born in captivity. Not sure. She's been with me since she was nine weeks. At that point she was socialised just enough to be picked up and moved from cage to cage. I don't think she'd ever been patted. She's never done anything even remotely like this before.

That was Tory. His mom was feral and he was born feral. Once he got a certain distance from the house he turned weird - like he was feral and scared of me. As soon as he got inside he remembered how good he had it. He was my little lover again.
Search all the little holes and weird spots she could be outside. Bring a can of cat food and open it up to get her attention. Or shake a bag. Is it possible that she found a way under the house?

I hope she finds her way home soon. I've heard putting a towel you've used to dry off after a shower or a tee shirt (or your pillowcase) outside by the door she'd normally use helps them "find" their way home. Or, her litter box if she uses one.
I'll keep you guys in my thoughts.

No, Val. Today is day 7. I'm putting up flyers and doing a letterbox drop tomorrow. If she comes home I'm getting one of those baby carrier things that you strap on your body and she is NEVER LEAVING IT! lol. The sick thing is, she wouldn't really mind.

(((Miss P))). We had a cat when i was a kid who disappeared for 6 mths? A year? I don't remember exactly any more but a long time and then one day he just waltzed in for breakfast no worse for wear. I guess someone had taken him in and was caring for him, and when he got out again he came home.

My brother had a cat who he treated kind of badly - no regular meals, not much attention, away all the time... Anyway when his wife left she surrendered the cat to the pound. He was quickly re-homed but the new humans let him out too soon, because he went straight home to my brother.
So it's comforting to know they'll even return to a "bad" home. Bubby's life here is champagne and caviar, so if she can get back, she will.
And Kewpie Doll came back from one of her wanderings looking as if she'd been to a spa resort, nails clipped and all. I can only wonder what heights of luxury she'd enjoyed.

My oldest cat who is almost 15 (Riley) is supposed to be an indoors cat. He was born to a stray at our old house. The kittens kept disappearing til he was the only one left so we brought him inside. Every time he gets a chance, he runs out. He's been out now for 5 days. He stays by the door, but when I open it he runs away. Then he will howl to come in, I open it, he runs away again. He doesn't know what he wants. He is my love buddy when he's inside and when he's outside he won't let me touch him. I'm okay with him staying outside if he stays at our house. I've never seen him in the street and the only time when he's left the yard is when I was trying to catch him and he ran to the neighbor's.
Ms. P, try putting his litter box or some of your dirty clothes outside. They will smell it and often come home. When we first moved to this house and Riley got out, he didn't "know the neighborhood" and got lost. After 3 days someone told me the dirty clothes trick and he was home the next morning.
Praying for you kitty's safe return!

Delta, sounds like Riley wants your attention but knows he'll lose his freedom for another indefinite period if he comes in. I've heard about the smelly clothes tip before, but I don't know if it'd work for Bubby. I mean, by the time she could smell the clothes she'd know where she was anyway, and come home. There's no way she's CHOOSING not to come home. She's got it good here. Did letter box drops this morning. A few people recognised her from the pic, but from her un-lost days.

No sign of Bubby. And I found out yesterday that her chip had the wrong phone number on it (a number that was never my number). A nice lady at the Council fixed that and added my email address. So I rang the vets and pounds again and told them the situation. I always get the same person on the phone at the pounds, though, so it's time for another trip to see if I can talk to som other person there.
It's killing me having to look at the cat adoption pics every day. So many boodiful kittehs needin' luv.
I feel as though she packed her suitcase and left me. Like ET and Mary Poppins - "my work here is done".

He'll let me pet him now and pick him up. I'm not forcing him into the house though. I give him a couple of chances a day to come in, and he walks away. He is staying right under the carport so it can't be much fun! I'm still praying you find Bubby. If not, surely some sweet well meaning stranger has taken him in.

(((MissP))) This must be so stressful for you. I hope there's some news soon! I know cats sometimes show up a long time after they disappear & I hope that's the case for you. I don't know what to say except send hugs & positive vibes.

Thank you, ladies, for all the good wishes.
A friend suggested I contact an "animal communicator" that she's tried. She wanted to know how her cats felt about her having a baby. I heard the replies and they were dumb. Like, sooooo dumb. For example, one cat was supposedly worried that he'd get less food and the other was worried the baby would be noisy and interrupt his sleep.
I mean, duh. Cats like food and sleep? Nobody needs a psychic to tell them that.
Mind you, if the results had been more intelligent I would have jumped on it. A different and more expensive animal psychic suggested imagining the cat and yourself and a blazing white path between you. I liked the sound of that so I've been doing it.
But I'll save my $80 for any vet visit she may need. We were supposed to be going back today for a check-up and more cortisone. Plus she's due for flea poison. My poor darling.
There's a sense of "waiting" in the house. As in, none of the others have tried to better their ranking in the cat-erarchy. They're behaving the same as they would if Bubby Boss Cat was here.

I don't place much stock in psychics (pet or otherwise). Visualizing a path home (or a path where he might have gone) is a good idea, though. Our cats got into the basement a few months ago (they'd never been down there, but DH accidentally left the door open). We found one cat right away but couldn't find the other. After 2 hours of searching, I decided to let the other cat go back down in hopes that she'd lead me to the other cat. She sort of did -- went down the stairs and ducked under something I didn't even think she could fit under. I got down on the floor with a flashlight and sure enough, there was the other cat hiding in a teeny-tiny space beneath some shelves against a wall.
If you were a cat and you slipped out the door, which way do you think you'd go? Is there a non-obvious path or hiding place you haven't checked yet?
*ahem* "Come hoooome, Bubby!"

See, as an outdoor cat she didn't "slip out" into unfamiliar territory. She was probably just off on one of her usual excursions and something happened. This is giving me hope that she'll come back, if she can. If she was purely indoors I'd be very, very worried.
In her younger days she'd go down to the corner and hang around the storm water drain. Then she'd jump into the drain and make her way along to the grating that's in my backyard. She'd meow and meow until I went out and pulled up the grate for her to hop out. It's a good 6 foot jump - I'm not sure she'd make it these days. But that doesn't matter - I'd get her out somehow. So I've been out periodically to shout down the drain.
We live in a cul-de-sac and it's my impression that she never went to the round part much, just down the straight part, and, according to inhabitants, down the cross street.
But they've put cameras on cats and the owners are always gobsmacked by where their cat goes. They think it sleeps in the rhododendrons all day, but really it's at 16 Oogleboogle St, playing in the fishpond. lol. I love cats.

I agree that since she is familiar with her outside surroundings, she isn't "lost". Maybe got trapped in somebody's garage or storeroom and is waiting for them to come open the door.
My neighbor's feral cat went missing after the roof replacement guys were there years ago. Like she has to get away from all the noise and confusion. Was gone almost 9 months and then just showed up again in the backyard one day. A little the worse for wear but she came back home.

I found the cat psychic (recommended by my friend) on youtube and she seems even shonkier when doing her thing.
My friend and I have a history of going to psychics, but she blabs everything and thinks it's amazing when they repeat it back to her. She's actually had this shonk do three readings. One was after a cat died, so of course the shonk said it was quick and painless. I mean, who'd say, "Your cat was hit by the car but he managed to crawl to the gutter where he lay in excruciating pain for three hours before he died." No. You'd say, "Suddenly the lights went out."
Maybe I could be a cat psychic.

Thanks, atdahop. I think I'm about to crack and go into grief mode. I've avoided it so far by just thinking that I have a missing cat, not which specific one it is. So not imagining her face or her enchanting ways or our little routines. It kills me that she (maybe) didn't even make it to 14. I was thinking 18, hoping for 20, planning to get her those steps for pets they have when they can't jump anymore. I didn't think she'd be the last of the four to go, but I certainly didn't think she'd be the first. And it occurred to me last night that I've never asked what the pounds do with feral cats. Because if someone rang them and asked them to collect a "feral" cat from their backyard, she'd look very much like one. She wouldn't come across as a cat you could re-home. (

It's been nagging at me that I should bust out the $80 for the cat psychic. But I look at this and all I see is FAKE!!! (btw, that's a NZ accent, not Australian. It's very mild though.)

I didn't watch the video, but my opinion is to go for it. That's not saying that I believe in psychics. My opinion is based on a few things:
*Even though you're skeptical, you've mentioned it a few different times, so that shows me you have interest in it.
*If you do go this route, the worst thing that could happen is that you'll be out $80, you won't be any further in the dark about Bubby than before.
*Who knows, you may gain some insight - somehow. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. You might feel better that you went the extra mile and did everything possible to bring your beloved Bubby home.
Good luck MissP. I'm always sending out those positive vibes that you and Bubby will be reunited soon.
