My camera has the spot on the bottom to use it with a tripod. However if I attach it to a tripod, I have to take the pictures in landscape orientation (wide and short). I usually take mine in portrait orientation (tall and narrow), it does better for plus sizes and especially for dresses. Is there a term to search by to find a tripod that can be adjusted so that the camera is taking the picture in either mode? By "landscape" or "portrait", think orientation settings for your printer and you'll get what I'm talking about. I don't know what the correct camera term is for this. Thanks!

I have both a full size tripod and a lightweight one that was ok for a point and shoot but not sturdy enough for the dsr and they both let you adjust the camera. In otherwords i think it is pretty standard. Did u try googling directions on the tripod? I don't use mine much so I don't remember off the top of my head how to do it. I think u might have to turn the rod that sicks out to loosen it and then it should pivot.

Tilt is what I'm reading on most of them. Targus usually has good inexpensive ones.
ETA: 3 way panhead is what you're looking for.

Oh my. I'm looking up tripods and checking feedback - seems a LOT of sellers in that category sell here, buy it on Amazon and have it shipped..and buyers are not happy about that.
Interesting.

Found a seller that doesn't appear to dropship from Amazon and bought one.
Thanks Jeremy & fashion!

I could be innocent that they sell on Amazon and use multichannel fulfillment. It's legit but buyers that hate Amazon get really fussy in feedback. I forgot the name of the service, but it's getting increasingly popular. You know those videos where people brag about how much money they make with just a few hours online a day and no inventory, no boss, no employees? This is what they are selling. It's a service you can use that will farm Amazon items to list on other formats like eBay and utilize multi channel fulfillment.

My light kit was drop shipped from Amazon. It arrived perfectly and ahead of schedule. And it was $10 cheaper on eBay. I don't understand why buyers are mad about it? They got what they paid for?

I think it is one of those "principal of the thing" issues.
Like Val, they don't want to buy on Amazon for whatever reason and that is why they are buying on ebay. But, then it turns out that they get it from Amazon anyway.

^^^^ This.
There are people out there who don't want to shop Amazon, I'm one of them. I don't like how Amazon does business and treats employees, so I refuse to shop there. I'm not alone.

It's also a subtle bait and switch - people hope they're doing business with a small seller on eBay and it's just drop shipped from Amazon. I have that happen and it's OK, I just need the item, but I can see where it might bug people - it's opaque.
A LOT of people here hate Amazon, BTW, and I live where it all started and where it has a huge presence.

FWIW I tried using a tripod for a while and found it just complicated matters, but everyone's setup is different and as we know, mine is a bit wonky. A lot of people have trouble with blur, though, and that's where a tripod really helps and is a time saver. A remote shutter switch may be a nice idea, too - that way you basically have the shutter release in your hand and can just snap it without fumbling for it on your camera.

My tripod arrived today. With a big "PRIME DAY" sticker on the box. Color me very annoyed. I'll give the seller postive FB but I'm saying something about it being from Amazon and not eBay.

I figured the stuff I ordered from Amazon last week would have come through Ebay from Amazon anyway so that I why I just went ahead and ordered it from Amazon.
Well, it was $5 cheaper through Amazon but I would have been annoyed too if I had gone the ebay route.
