I don't know why sellers would complain. It's what they've been bitching and moaning about for years. Ebay is finally doing something.
Of course, eBay could have communicated this a lot better to buyers and sellers.

Of course, eBay could have communicated this a lot better to buyers and sellers. I'm a seller & I'm complaining, if it's true. I haven't seen evidence of it on my listings yet. Ebay already did something about it, years ago, when they gave us the choice. I found IPR completely unnecessary & I don't want it on for my listings b/c I consider it a hassle for my multi-purchase buyers. Which is EXACTLY why I turned off years ago & that's exactly how I want it. I set it up the way I wanted, tested it & chose the option that suited me. Why would they suddenly, years later, require it? Makes no sense as they could have required it way back when they introduced the option. This will really piss me off, if they force me to go IPR.

I'm on the fence. On one hand, I don't like not having control over my own preferences and on the other it helps with non-paying buyers. The main issue I have is that buyers simply either don't use or don't know how to use the cart. It boggles my mind how they know how to use it on other sites, but can't figure it out here on eBay. I try to encourage multi-item purchases with my flat rate shipping, so this could potentially affect me. On the fourth hand (or is it the third or fifth? LOL). I have very very few NPB.

I am IPR all the way and have payment rules set up because I can't conceive of this "Oh, I'll pay you in X days." To me this is how buy and sell works and we have the tools to do it. But I've never done business on a site that has such poor communication. I guess I've long since resigned myself to the fact that we're on a managed marketplace and no more than contractors so I'm jaded.

You know what would be an awesome change?
Immediate payment for auctions. Make it a stipulation before the bidder bids they commit to the PP payment if they win.

I have all my FP listings with IPR. Several times I've had buyers want to purchase several things at once. They messaged me and I took off the IPR on those listings. They bought, everyone happy. I just don't think it should be required; it should be up to each individual seller to decide if it's right for them.

Can't they not mess up for a change? Couldn't they just communicate that they're making a change on such & such a day and DO it on schedule without causing excessive drama with us sellers? Or do they do it to keep us in an uproar and unsettled? I just don't get it... I thought the system that allowed sellers to chose whether they used IPR for their own business was dandy. But "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" is obviously not their mantra.

I do think if eBay is going to go to IPR on all FP items, then the use of the shopping cart should also be mandatory. That would solve many of the problems.

The only thing I would add to that, is if the seller chooses it. It's something we've been asking for, for years, as an option. But it s/b up to the seller. On auctions I might actually use it. On FP, I purposely don't & it's not an issue for me.

I always hear from someone somewhere that it's not possible because you don't know how much the auction is going to end up. Bull crud. I have bought from an online auction site that sells items from police seizures. When you sign up, you have to enter your payment method. When you win, they automatically take the payment from the payment method. If it doesn't go through, then you have 3 days to correct it, or they try again. If it fails again, they cancel and you don't get to buy any longer.

They can easily require a bid deposit for higher dollar items. We do this when we bid on the Ritchie Bros Auctions. What Pantlandia said about pulling from the payment method. Good idea. Ebay really just needs to make the cart system work better. I'm 100% for everything being IPR. Continuity from auction to auction (FP or not) makes for a cleaner operation. I agree with it being part of the big picture of ebay. I don't think going from listing to listing and having to figure out what each seller wants is really good for the entire operation. Most other online stores require payment before an item is removed from inventory, so why not here as well. The amount of time spent, collectively, on non paying bidders is time consuming. It's not that hard to work around. Thousands and thousands of sellers are doing just that. There are very few who truly can't make it work - but, that's more along the lines of larger items, antiques, etc... Not general everyday stuff found all over the place.
