And speaking of problems we need to decide what to do with spam, and what should be considered spam. I think we need a section for members to advertise what they have for sale, but I don't think it's appropriate for someone to join just in order to push their cheap Chinese crap. Shirley brought up a good point on another discussion. Since it's looking like part of this forum will be public and openly readable (just not openly postable), we can (and should!) have an area where we can post specials, neat auctions we want to mention to folks, etc. Flaunt our listings. But like Shirley said, we also need to make sure it has some guidelines to prevent members joining to just post spam. Just brainstorming here, to get y'all thinking…. * One discussion thread per week, starting on x day each week? "Sales week of January 19", "Sales week of January 26", etc.? * Everyone posts their goodies on the weekly thread? * Sort of like the monthly BBL thread, but weekly so it's not so long and hard to read? * Limit # of these visibile on the forum - maybe only keep the last X weeks theads, delete others? Current + 2 weeks back? Current + 1 week back? * Set up a sales board, but limit # of advertising posts by member by week? So it would be it's own board with multiple discussions rather than one weekly discussion? * Mods/Admin warn any member who exceeds limit (whatever is set) and removes excess posts? ??

I like the idea of a separate sales board.
So all the sales stuff isn't mixed in with the other stuff and people who are looking for it can go directly to it. And those who aren't interested don't have to even see it if they don't want to.
A certain number of posts per week per seller sounds good to me.

One thing that surprised me on the eBay Clothing Sellers forum is that the Classified board never got out of hand. More stuff was given away than sold. I really don't think 'for sale' type listings will be a problem if you give them a designated space. I think you could play it by ear as far as imposing a limit and find you never have to impose one.
Then maybe a show your woo hoos type of thread(s) - both the shopping type and the just sold type. People will know what they're going to see when they open them.

The classifieds on the other forum is in the Members Only section, so it's restricted. That might be why it didn't blow up.
We can do that here (restricted), or make it public so it's open to search engines. If it's public, then it most likely WILL need some guidelines and limits so it doesn't become a spam spot.
Or, do both. Restricted classifieds for member to member stuff (freebies, etc.) and a Sell Your Wares public area (with enforced limits) so members can post to each other and the public when they run a MM sale, a FS sale, have a cool item on auction, etc.
Think about it - why not toot our own horns to the public? But we would definitely have to set limits and enforce them on a public selling discussion.

I'd like to get a sell your stuff board set up, public viewing but members/staff only posting (obviously, we sure don't want guests spamming here!) but we need some rules please.
I'll make it a separate board.
How many posts a week per member is good? Maybe one post per member daily? That way we'd have new stuff up daily? You don't have to post daily if you don't want to, though. We could limit the number of items within a post, say 3 max? I'm just tossing things out so we can discuss! Help!

Maybe a weekly "highest, lowest, favorite" thread. On a weekly basis?
List your highest priced item, your lowest priced item and your favorite item.
Members can be encouraged to post once a week.

Sometimes I like to do specials like free shipping for boardies, etc. But I agree with Elly, I don't think it would get out of hand. I think most of the posts of an advertising nature would be freebies or 'just pay shipping'.
The posts about fun or unusual items we have listed are more for entertainment purposes, I think. I don't think any of us post those with the expectation of a boardie buying them?

Unfortunately some sellers do tend to get a bit hoggy when they think they are getting free advertising.
I had some collections and there were a few who would put up a dozen items at a time and want them added, and they did this every couple of days.
So I do think a number limit is in order. It won't effect most members at all, but it will stop the hoggy ones from putting up so much stuff that when someone looks at it it seems like it is all just their stuff.

We have a freebie/classifieds (like the other place) in the Clubhouse. No limits there, list what you want, just like on the other site.
A "sell your wares" board would be available for public viewing, so they'd be different things. The sell your wares board, hopefully, would get us some traffic to our store or listings. This is the one that should have a limit of some sort.
I just don't know if one post/max of x items per post, or if max of x posts, one item per post (or one announcement, i.e., '10% off MM sale, [store link]) would be better.
If you go with the one item per post, max of x posts per day per seller, that would allow you a bit more flexibility and you could include an item picture. You could post your items thoughout the day that way, too, one at a time, as you listed them (or decided on which one) until you hit your max.

Ok, I can see Clubhouse with just a Classified subcategory now.
There is a discussion board there too though, right? If there is, I can't see that yet.
It is ok for us to use the Games section to get our post count up, right?

That wasn't a like for the mushy brain or child's surgery, BTW.
Hope he/she recovers nicely. Hope Mom does, too!

Hi gang, us admins got a bit behind today with all the new members and are just now getting everyone's post count set up. You should all be able to see the Clubhouse now. The normal posting requirements for that area is a minimum of 50 posts. We wanted it to be a bit more private than just one post. New members that we know (i.e., from CAB, Kevin's forum, eBay sellers we know, etc) will be grandfathered in and post count bumped to 50 as soon as possible. As we grow and get members who aren't referred but happen upon us, they'll be required to make the 50 posts. But if you're chatting on the other boards, it won't take all that long to get to 50 posts, and it allows everyone get to know you first. All we ask is if it can be public, maybe put it out on one of the public boards. But if it's a personal issue to you and you just aren't comfortable with it being public, post in the private clubhouse and we'll understand. I think it's safe to say we'd rather have you post somewhere than not post at all

On the other board you could click on the member's globe and it took you to their store/listings. Is there something here to do that? I like to try to shop boardies first.

Maybe a weekly "highest, lowest, favorite" thread. On a weekly basis? List your highest priced item, your lowest priced item and your favorite item. Members can be encouraged to post once a week. I love this, but mine would be the same every week (I do 30 day listings). Maybe each week could be a different theme - high/low/favorite, something old/something new/something blue, different holiday themes, etc.

Do you list every week? If so, it could totally work for you. I like your idea of changing it up also
