AS some of you know I scored a huge estate lot of clothing, mostly from the 70s - 90s, high end stuff for the most part. I was so excited!
Well, now I've got into listing them, I find that they don't excite me. They aren't cool funky stuff, but classic St John, Dior, Armani, so the money is there, but the thrill is not. I'm quite surprised by my reaction to it. I now get mildly excited to list the random modern item I've still got in my listing queue, even a run of the mill Ann Taylor.
I guess i just weeded out a niche that doesn't bring me joy to handle. And the 80s-90s was my corporate working era, and I loved the clothing I wore then. I somehow can't relate to these vintage things. I'll list them all, and I've learned some new valuable brands, but I guess it's just not my thing. I love finding and listing vintage board games and gloves, accessories, but not the clothing.
Live and learn... Laurie

I'm sure most of us know how you feel. I know I have good and bad days. Sometimes I find things that I think are great and when I get them home, I wonder what I was thinking.
So vintage is not your thing? I'm not a huge fan of vintage either. If a piece is boring new it is going to be boring when it's vintage too. A perk to selling on Ebay is choosing what you want to sell. What makes it fun for you? You already know so stick with that and keep it fun and exciting.

I came to the realization that I hate selling vtg quite awhile ago. I don't enjoy the research part. Even if the pieces are cool & funky, I hate listing them b/c I find the research & listing tedious. So, I just don't pick it up anymore. I don't find it often anyway & I'm not saying I'd leave a Pucci, but for run of the mill vtg, forget it.
For me, it takes forever to sell too, since it's so small.

I love, love, love vintage scarves. I have a boatload to photograph and list. Vintage clothes? Meh.
So I can relate.

I wouldn't be excited by 70s-90s era vintage either. 70s were (mostly) ugly and 80s-90s just seem dated to me since it is stuff I remember. Now 40s-60s vintage is another story.

That's what I keep trying to tell one thrift that charges a ridiculous amount for any vintage. This thrift does manual markdowns every week on all but the current color tag. The same employee does it every week. I know where she starts on Monday morning, and what day will be the best for me to shop based on what section(s) I know she has finished and what items I'm waiting to be marked down.
We often meet up around vintage because at that point she has just finished dresses. The have the saddest collection of vintage I've ever seen and almost nothing is under $15. Even a coral elastic waist double knit pleated skirt with a stain from Montgomery Ward. The majority get the maximum of 3 mark downs, and many end up ragged out when even that isn't enough. 3 markdowns on a $15 item would be $1.88 in this store, so that should tell you something. I keep telling her she needs to tell her manager 'what I buy today at Wal-Mart might be vintage in 20 years, but it's going to be vintage carp'. She always laughs and says if she told him that she would be out of a job. And she's right. Her whole job is to mark down, and pull things for ragging out, from the inventory in ALL categories that they over price. It takes her from Monday morning until about Thursday.

Make things worse, 80s style is back in again. Ugh.

I just picked up a few of the more exciting pieces from the dry cleaners, so that should help my enthusiasm. St John suit, Karl Lagerfeld funky suit, gorgeous Lilli Ann plush red coat (I'd keep that if it ever got under 50 degrees here).
It was kind of sad, as my interview suit was with this lot of high end stuff at the cleaners. As I unpacked it, it was kind of like...blech. I wear this? When I'm trying to make a good impression? Eek. But I suppose the electric purple St John suit would be a bit much...

Make things worse, 80s style is back in again. Ugh. I regret not saving everything I ever owned. Especially most of my 70s stuff. Could do without my big hair/shoulder pads of the 80s/90s though. My kids saw photos of me. They laughed. But, I love vintage and not sure why. i don't wear it. Most of it would never fit me now.

I love the idea of vintage but I don't think I would/could sell it. I don't relish the research & learning curve. Not sure if I would wear it now even if it would fit me.
