i saw this yesterday and didnt quite get it--they stated that it was due to declining mall traffic, and yet out of the four (and i think its all of them) in my area that are closing, only one is in a mall, two are in pretty busy strip malls, and one is in an outdoor outlet "mall" (and is an outlet).
i just found it odd. the one that was actually in a mall was quite frankly, an absolutely lousy business decision on their part--they only had a presence there for maybe the last three years, in a mall that has LONG been on the decline, and they chose a lower level corner store near Sears, so foot traffic was abysmal. whomever negotiated that deal should have been fired.
i actually preferred them to forever 21. i'll be sad to see them go.
but i wouldnt plan on them as a source of cheap inventory...just like i wouldnt buy stuff from aeropostale. both are turds for resale purposes and i wouldnt bother, even if it was free.

There are 18 stores in my state closing. The two that I checked are in strip malls. I wonder if they use the phrase, declining mall traffic, loosely in that they also mean outdoor strip malls.
The location of one of them was sketchy and I always wondered if they even got any business. It always seemed like an after thought for shopping rather than a destination. It's in an area with a Lowe's and some other non teenage stores.

A lot of mall store closures are knock-on effects, too - a couple of anchor stores close and the others start pulling out as soon as their lease is up, or if they already have a clause in their lease guaranteeing an anchor store or they have the option to break the lease.
People don't sport shop anymore, they spend disposable income on 'experiences', which to me is a better way to go, and they shop online, of course. Retail in the US is also fantastically over-built. The only thing that bothers me about these store closures is the loss of jobs, particularly in areas where there are not a lot of options.
