They're going after what customers want - fast shipping. It's helped to make Amazon a success. The article mentions the future Amazon drones as well. Lol
eBay sellers - this is one more filter that can knock them out of a broken search if they refuse to participate. Some sellers are going to have to start shipping sooner. I realize many do, but there's another level of professionalism here. I'm guessing fulfillment centers are in the future.
This isn't necessarily a bad thing. eBay is advertising, and now they're telling people to shop there because of quick shipping. They're going after Amazons customers.

Also - the new seller tools will be interesting.

As long as it's voluntary I can't say much about it. I already ship next day so it's not an inconvenience to me, but it does give a continuing message about where eBay is going.
The option of searching time lapse might clear out supersaturated categories like clothing but depending on how people use it, though, it may also knock out most of the interesting and hard to find items because many people who sell these things simply can't ship instantly and don't have Amazon's control over delivery companies (the USPS has been delivering for Amazon on Sundays).
This is funny, though - these shipping 'wars' - it's like Amazon, eBay, etc., are using people to fight their battles by inventing a demand, leading us by the nose to want instant shipping when previously it wasn't generally a problem. It's a perfect example of traditional manipulative marketing.

I don't care about advertising fast shipping on eBay. I usually get my eBay purchases much faster than orders from retailer sites. eBay can advertise that all they want since it's often true.
What I'm opposed to is the seller paying for violations of the delivery time promise. If the seller shipped by method paid for by buyer, and within seller's handling time, the seller should have NO liability whatsoever in any delivery being late. We cannot control Fed Ex, UPS or the USPS. WE should not pay for their mistakes. Ebay wants to promise a stated delivery date, eBay needs to pony up the refund money when it's the shipping service that dropped the ball.

Additionally, sellers have requested the ability to provide more accurate shipping delivery dates, shipping charges, and shipping speed to buyers based on their location. Sellers will also have the flexibility to customize the days they work and cut-off times for same-day handling.
LOL! My idea of "providing more accurate shipping delivery dates" is for eBay to accurately combine the USPS shipping timeframes and MY handling time, which is something eBay has not been doing for several years now.

I don't have a problem with the concept at all. I like that I can still control my shipping, and buyers can hunt by shipping time. If I want to be shown in that hunt, I just lower my handling. That all actually sounds pretty good. It could even benefit smaller sellers who can be more flexible with their time and shipping schedules. I just want more details on what is it going to cost me when the USPS screws up. And we all know the USPS will screw up. Ooooooo just thought of something, what happens when the package is scanned as "delivered" when it should have been scanned "recieved". Does the buyer get an automatic refund?

On the ebay for business Facebook page, it was clarified that as long as sellers meet their HANDLING time, they will not have to pay for it being late.
We will have to wait for more clarification before I jump the gun on any of this. I'm sure I'll let other sellers be a guinea pigs to see how it works.

Interesting that they're willing to say that on Facebook but not post it on the official announcement of the service. I'll believe it when I see it on eBay.

Yeah, but it was just an announcement. There is a place to sign up to follow this annnoincement. There are no hard rules set yet - just basic info about the program.
You should see the comments on their FB page. I don't think some people know how to read LOL.
It's not mandatory It won't give you a boost in search It adds a drill down option on the left to sort by delivery date (bye bye Chinese sellers!!!!!!!) It's a US only program at this time Ship it in your stated handling time
*At this time, it is unclear what happens/who pays if the buyer decides to return the item.

I love that they've added something that isn't catering to Chinese sellers.

Yes - hopefully that will eliminate the ones with the fake "US address" (but who drop ship from China).

Yep, that was my thought. It will be a great way to weed them out in searches.
I'm not saying I'll opt in because I'm not sure I want to go to the PO every day. And I'm not sure that "no returns" sellers can participate. But I'm not seeing this as a negative thing at all. But MAN OH MAN some sellers are p*ssed!

Like I said, I like the concept a lot. But eBay has burned too many sellers in the details.
I'll wait for official word on the details to get excited.
Especially given how many times I've already been burned by the USPS with scanned as delivered when they're picking up.

Honestly, I don't like that ecommercebytes at all. She said that eBay gave "yet another story". But it wasn't a different story, it was clarification. It has a really negative tone to it when I don't even see anything negative in that write-up at all.
ETA: Honestly, it's not like she's following the updates on their FB page. Or just choosing what snipets to write about, which makes it even more confusing than it needs to be. Adding unnecessary fuel to the fire.

I've thought to myself in the past that her write-ups have stirred the pot in a self-serving manner. If things ran smoothly, there would be no need for her " services".

OK, I was ducking under my desk waiting for the rotten tomatoes to get thrown at me. At least I'm not the only one.

Its just like the news media etc.
They have to write about something everyday minute of every day that will get people coming back to read.
Doesn't matter if it is all completely true as long as a good part of it is factual and not slanted or the total picture.

One thing you do have to give eCommerceBytes credit for, no matter what your view is on their "news coverage" - they're often the ONLY thing eBay will respond to. They've been instrumental in getting changes for sellers, and shedding light on changes that needed to be reversed (and getting eBay to do so). EBay does take notice when ECB gets involved.

Yes - they aren't perfect, but ECB does a LOT to inform and represent sellers.
