It's a shame that a lot of the department stores that have gone out of business in the last decade or so were started more than 100 years ago.
"Like many other apparel and retail companies, the debtors have fallen victim in recent months to adverse macro-economic trends, especially a general shift away from brick-and-mortar to online retail channels, a shift in consumer demographics, and expensive leases," Brown said.
That pretty much sums it up.

I've heard this on our news. We just got a Gordman's a couple months ago. They put it in the mall - that is always dead except for Christmas time. Not sure if they plan on closing it or not. I strolled through there once. I couldn't even handle the clutter and madness of the store so I had to leave. Never been back. If it closes, I won't miss it.

I'm not sure they nailed it. I think the place was just going downhill with their merchandise. It's just not an appealing store. I've been in that store a few times with DD. We usually walk out empty handed because it's a mess and the clothes are crap. It looks like they're trying to knock off everyone from VS Pink to Rock and Republic - and not doing too good of a job at it.

I'm not surprised at all. Our Gordmans is crap. It's in the mall, with in and outside access, and that mall is BUSY. The store is always trashed and selection is poor. I thought maybe it was just plus size, but nope, now that I'm in misses sizes, selection is still crappy.
H&M is just about as crappy, IMO.

I've never heard of Gordman's but it sounds like I'm not missing much.

I'm talking about the general retail picture with the shift to online and shopping as a hobby generally not appealing to younger generations on any ongoing basis. ETA: We don't have anything like Gordman's here - we used to have Wigwam lol but that went with gentrification.
