Another dumb idea -- only on ebay would you have to pay for things that don't sell as well as things that do! Some of the other changes mentioned like hiking FVF to 15% also sound like bad news for sellers. Why do they not get the concept that what is bad for sellers is bad for ebay's bottom line?

I don't think it's bad at all. I know I'm in the minority, but honestly, if it hasn't sold in 18 months then it needs to be re-evaluated; title change, price change, description change, new pictures, taken down completely, etc.

Vintage sewing patterns have to wait until the right person in the right size is looking for that particular pattern. Mine are relisted on eBay for one final spin thru the cycle; they're already listed on Bonanza too. I'm closing my store before I go to NOLA at the end of this month; no idea whether I'll re-open it or not when I return. The spring update should be out by then and I'll let it guide my decision. But if the UK announcements is any indication of what's in store for us here... we'll see.

I agree with Jeremy.
It will help clear the site of all the junk that sellers put up with GTC and never look at again. Old crappy listings that even have outdated terms, etc. At that point it's time to reevaluate the listing and make changes or junk it.
Buyers get tired of seeing the same junk every time they manage to get search to work.
The rest of it I guess we will have to see how it plays out and if those changes will occur here.

I sold something today that I listed last winter.
I think that this is a sign if what to expect in our spring update.

I'm on the bench with Jeremy and Shirley. I can understand why eBay is doing that and have no problems with it. If you want to avoid the stale fee, do a new listing with better keywords, update your TOS, maybe take better pictures. eBay isn't saying you can't list the item again, they're just going to charge you to run the same old listng.
Way too many sellers slap stuff on GTC and never look at the listings again. Buyers do notice.

I think it may lead to less clutter on the site and possibly more sales. I know it will force me to re-evaluate a few listings that I keep putting off (on that "to-do" next week list).

I've sold several things recently that I've had listed for almost a year. However, I do go in and tweak the title, re-arrange the main photo, raise/lower the price or put it on sale. I've started doing primarily 30 day listings and re-evaluate each listing at the 30 day renewal. I agree that if someone is just running the same old thing month after month, it's probably better to take it down. I read it as saying that any item which had been listed but not sold in 18 months would have a fee but it sounds like so long as the listing is freshened up, it should be OK.

My take on the article was if you did a whole new listing, it's considered a new listing and won't be charged the stale fee. So you could theoretically keep something up forever, just do a new listing every 18 months.

I'd like to see it just so my boss will get socked with a extra few hundred dollars per month...about 50% of the overpriced crap we have listed has been up for 18+ months.

I have no problem with the 18 month fee. If you haven't touched a listing in 18 months ebay is losing money by giving it a space on the site. It says it wants to encourage sellers to freshen up their listings. So it seems like if you edit it, that will reset your time. Doesn't hurt to tweak a listing now and then instead of list it and forget it.
The increased fees and decreased perks, we'll just have to see what pans out there. I'm not sure their selling things are the same as ours. Our Anchor doesn't receive unlimited listings but seems like theirs does from the way I read it anyways.
