I was just listing a vintage tee on Etsy and something new has been added- they're calling it attributes but it's just like IS on eBay. They're saying "make it easier for buyers to find this by adding more details". So far I see color, holiday, occasion & size. Is this new and in all categories? ETA- they've added an optional SKU field. That's sorta depressing on a vintage & handmade site. ETA again- and shipping is wonky today- $7.45 to ship a 15 oz item to LA? Grumpy cat is gonna go do something else now.

I just saw that when I was revising a listing for an 80-year-old kimono - I was ?huh?. They're bundling vintage in with handmade - the SKU is kind of depressing, but since it's just inventory management I'll ignore it. When they demand UPCs, then I'll worry.

They have all that stuff on the jewelry too. Yikes.

Regarding the SKU, I thought the site was also open to craft suppliers (i.e., bead sellers, fabric sellers, etc) so the SKU field would make sense in related supply categories.

Yes - there are supplies sellers there who have had hundreds of thousands of transactions and are quite large. A lot of Etsy crafters also purchase their supplies there, so an SKU makes sense for supply sellers - it's probably just making easier what they do already for inventory tracking.

Yes, I realized that I hadn't considered the new supplies category until after I posted my complaints. Both SKUs & UPCs make sense for those. If anybody's ever noticed a pattern in my grumpy posts, I HATE changes on sites where I list, especially fiddly little stuff that I don't believe buyers use to search anyway. But it's not my sandbox, not my rules or changes.

It's understandable, though, with Etsy allowing manufactured goods now - there more and more Chinese crap coming in now, things that have no business being on there, but if you mention it in the forums, they remove your post. Reporting does nothing.

WTH? So I just opened up one of my Etsy stores to start listing lingerie... damned if my listing manager hasn't flipped itself. The menu is now on the right side instead of the left where it was yesterday and has been forever. It was on the left in the menswear store I listed bandanas 5 hours ago. THATS what I mean my meaningless changes. Why bother changing that? I haven't changed anything today... only logged into that store to see my sold items. Dang... did I mention changes like this making me crazy?

Yeah me too. First time I saw it I had to walk away for awhile but I did get some listings done later. I'm really not a prima donna tho I must sound like one. IDK- to me meaningless change like that is symbolic of waste... and folks with nothing better to do, and clueless people in charge. Whatever... adapt or perish, right?

The new arrangement is counter-intuitive to how the western-trained human eye perceives (Etsy is western-based) and I have no idea what they think they're doing. I just clunked along, though - I only do a few listings a day there so I don't have to look at it much.
The YUGE image blanks are bothersome, though - it used to be that you could gauge if you needed to reframe a thumbnail to get it to fit in - now they're disproportionate. Furthermore, you have to scroll and hunt for the thumbnail adjust as there is too much area between observation and action. One of the first rules of form-building is to tie like things together, and that means spatially - don't make people hunt.
