Hubby and I are thinking of heading to Destin for a few days at the end of April. We have never been before but have always wanted to go. Any advice on where to stay/eat/etc? Any places we should see or avoid? Thanks in advance.

Went there a few years ago, rented a condo since we had 3 families from different parts of the country & my parents wanted us all to stay in the same house. I really liked it & would love to go back & explore more. Since it was a whole 'family' thing & we had a kitchen & a Jacuzzi on the deck, we didn't leave the condo all that much LOL. But it's a lovely area.

Be sure to hit Harry T's for lunch or dinner. It's on the west end of town, just off of Hwy 98. Best blackened grouper ceasar salad ever! Great view, too, since it's on the Gulf side. And it's local, not a chain. Been around for decades.

If you're flying in, try to fly into Pensacola airport instead of Panama City airport - car rentals are cheaper at P'cola airport.

Thanks for the tips. We are in SC, so driving in. My Sis has been several times and says to go to Oakaloosa Island or Island Echeos or something like because Destin is so crowded. What do you guys think?

I've stayed at The Breakers on Okaloosa Island several times. They have one, two, and three-bedroom condos right on the ocean.
If you want to take a little day-trip while you're there, drive over 98 east to 30A and check out Seaside, Watercolor, and Alys Beach -- absolutely amazing little communities.

Okaloosa Island is on the other side of the bridge, going towards Ft. Walton Beach. There's a huge public beach (think it's a state park?) on the island, so it's much easier to access than the beach front in Destin.
You used to be able to rent pontoon boats for the day and then go anchor in Destin Bay (with all the other boats LOL). One of the bars had a party boat with live music and they'd deliver drinks via wave runner. This was '95-'97, not sure if they still do that.
