I don't have an eBay store and I don't sell on etsy, but I'm considering both. Do you use the same store name for both platforms or do you prefer different names?

It kinda all depends. Really? I dunno that store names mean anything. I have a 'store' on etsy cause that's what they do with everyone. The store name is my ID and that's all I use on ebay too, even in the blue moons that I have a store for a month or two.
For other people who 'specialize', maybe it helps them or maybe it helps their buyers. I buy what I want from whomever has whatever it is. I don't buy at a 'favorite seller' kinda thing and I certainly don't follow (stalk) any sellers. That gives me the creeps.
But that's me and I'm weird.

I have two different names. I like having two different names and, if you tick someone off on eBay and block them, they can't come and find you to do mischief on Etsy. I don't think it matters all that much though so do what you like.

I use the same shop name on Etsy as my ID on eBay and my ID on Tradesy, but I'm all about the name recognition. My store name on eBay is Bargainz Babylon because I was going to have two stores and I'm too embedded in it now to change it with state and federal taxes, marketing stuff, etc, but I use Chapeau Noir on everything with the BB store being kind of a sub-name.
Also my buyers cross-pollinate. I've almost always, since I began selling in 1999, sold in more than one venue, and I like to have them find me wherever I sell.

Just like Chap, my Etsy store is my Ebay ID, but my Ebay store is Daisy's Jeans. I tried to make my Ebay store the same, but they wouldn't let me. I don't have a following anywhere but I figured if someone looked at one place and searched for the name, the other might come up too.

Ah, but you do have followers! 27 on eBay. I have my business cards printed with both ebay store and etsy shop URLs on them under 'chapeau-noir' so that hopefully they'll check out my other store AND hopefully the ID name itself will stick.

Wow! I didn't even know I had followers on Ebay. Where oh where do you see that?!?

I just clicked on your eBay link and it came up in a little text block under you store name, along with a 'follow' link. You can find the number of followers anyone has by clicking into their store, or on their ID.
ETA: Looks like it won't come up that way if it's your own store (I just checked mine). OK, I can see why - just click on your ID and it'll pop up there.

I like to keep an eye on it - all of those followers are getting stuff from you in their feed when you list it - it's a great motivator for me to list frequently.
