"The buyer requested a return but you are under no obligation to accept the return". No obligation but will refusing a return affect things like my search placement? It's a Quacker Factory eather jacket NWT that I have no doubt will sell again, but probably not until fall. I sold it for $34.99, and I would prefer not to take it back but if it's going to make my sales worse than they already are, I would bite the bullet and accept it. Should I be worried about search placement, do you think?

It won't change your search placement or give you any defect. This time is is simply a "request". Any comments you type in as the reason will be shared with the buyer despite the direct statement that they will not.
I have declined several and now I just type in that it was deeply discounted for final sale and advertised as no returns.

I have no idea. I don't even think eBay has an idea.
Like Clean said--it's just a request.
I am no returns for a reason. It's because I don't want to take them. Period. And I stick to my TOS. If I remember correctly, there is a spot for you to say why not. My reasoning is "This item is non-refundable as stated in the listing". To me, I do not need to justify my business practices to my customers.
I have had a couple of these. I declined. No defect. No hearing back from the buyers ever. No TRS lost. And I'm still selling.
